Some of the seminars really are crap and as HP said "You get what you pay for , why would top people give away the secrets of their trade?"
A hypothetical....
What if two people who were top flight in there field did a traffic seminar at a hotel nearby...
Say person one ( a person with good rep ) said he would do a seminar on SEO , proved that he was getting excess of 100,000 hits a day and was willing to show you how to do the same.
Say person Two ( another known webmaster) was willing to show you how to mail , heat free , introduce you to all the contacts to facilitate it , and proved income sales of $10,000 a day sustained.
Of course they'd be interested!! Can't imagine an SEO or mail guy telling very many people though because it's probably going to make things tougher on them.

Depends on the money .....
Plus what if they were SEO specialists and mailers that concentrated in different spheres than adult...

I've been #1 for the word "fetish" in Google for the past 3+ years in addition to hundreds of other top rankings I've achived for my clients and employers. I make my living as an SEO for 7 years now. Since there is no magic formula, just comprehensive understanding of the basics, experimentation, resources, and creating your own unique campaign that works for what you are trying to market, all one can do is absorb the knowledge that is available to you at the time and figure out what works for you. It takes time, patience, a little bit of english skills and HTML/coding and creativity. SEO is 20% design, 30% copywriting, 20% coding, 20% link strategies, and 10% luck Oh and btw, after the seminar (2003) a rep from Yahoo/Inktomi came up to me and told me everthing I said was "Right on". That was awesome! I was thrilled.
The information you need is out there, you just have to pursue it. No one is going to show you how its just most people go and drink away everything they learned earlier that day in the seminar or dont remember by the time they get home.
You can't duplicate, but you can innovate.
You may enjoy these as well. (Note: I've been writing for so many years some info may be outdated http://www.cozyacademy.com/classrooms/traffic/index.asp 56 lessons dating back to 2002) I'll be speaking again in Cybernet, and I'm an open book. I only talk about things I've seen work and when I project or give ideas I tell people they are ideas
On topic, I'd love to hear what work for others, the more information the better! Ideas earned from research and experience breeds innovation - the best way to get on top.
