Depends on what their duties are, but I'd think in most cases a balance of both.
Commission provides an incentive to go round up more business. But if you want your affiliate managers to also service your affiliates, a bit of a base takes the edge off of having to spend time servicing the guys who send small traffic. |

salary + commission
salary for dealing with babysitting 1 and 2 signup per week affiliates (who often require the most time to attend to) and commission for landing the bigger traffic senders

One thing I can say for certain is if you get the right person LOOK AFTER THEM, because most affiliates are loyal to a good affiliate manager, not the program he/she manages ;-) |
