By commission only basis, by a base plus commission basis, or by a straight salary ?
|
offer options. More base pay = less commission
|
Depends on what their duties are, but I'd think in most cases a balance of both.
Commission provides an incentive to go round up more business. But if you want your affiliate managers to also service your affiliates, a bit of a base takes the edge off of having to spend time servicing the guys who send small traffic. |
salary + commission
salary for dealing with babysitting 1 and 2 signup per week affiliates (who often require the most time to attend to) and commission for landing the bigger traffic senders |
Yup. A combination of the two suits poeople best.
|
Totally agree that a combination of both is best.

You have to make sure the persons time is covered for all hours spent working on maintaining the program, posting on boards etc which builds the brand of your program but doesn't necessarily get trackable affiliates straight away. But you have to either have someone who knows exactly what they are doing and doesn't need supervising (hard to find) who should be paid a good salary plus a bonus structure for results achieved, or if you go the current trend of hiring some idiot with big tits you will need to map out what the person is doing exactly so time isn't wasted ... The last thing you want is someone like Candice who trolls the boards posting 1 liners or the opposite, someone like Cory who in a matter of a few months has ruined a brilliant program by being an ass. One thing I can say for certain is if you get the right person LOOK AFTER THEM, because most affiliates are loyal to a good affiliate manager, not the program he/she manages ;-) |

Its always best to build good relationships with affiliates. If the loyalty is there and for what ever reason conversions are bad for that week/month they will continue sending traffic regardless, instead of dropping the sponsor. if traffic conversion ratios are awesome then the affiliate now has even more of a desire to send traffic. |
I have always thought that the best way to pay an affiliate manager was in cash. Preferably small unmarked bills delivered in a brown briefcase. Put it in the trash can at the corner of 8th and main at midnight. And don't bring anyone else with you. If you follow the directions well then you will see your affiliate program again safe and sound once I've confirmed the cash. If not, then.........
 |
