Moore plays himself off as a man of the common people, fighting alongside them for their cause (mainly, anti-Bush and anti-large corporation).
He's just as much a man of the people as is our current president. If he's going to champion capitalism, maybe he should apologize to General Motors. From the Wikipedia entry for Roger & Me: GM argues that the reason for its downsizing was fierce competition from Japanese auto manufacturers and that the only alternative to the factory closures in Flint would have been major government handouts or the abolishment of free trade. Bottom line
Moore's movie made 22mil in 3 days, 3.5 millions people saw it. thats pretty much all that counts in this country. Bottom Line= everything, from the leader of the freee world to a documentary filmmaker, eh?  Roger and Me was good, i would watch it at first, GM pulling out of there really did devastate Flint, MI. and the documentary wasn't as much going after big business, but showing the effects of what happens when a major company sends its labor overseas, and pulls out. It ould be like GE and P&G pulling out of ohio, or the devastation caused by the mining industry relying more on imports, mostly as favors, in WEst Virginia. people should actually try for first hand opinions on anything. when i have something to say, i go to the source, if i have an opinion on a movie, i go see it before forming it. Reading second hand information and taking it as a whole, is what is wrong with the Media, if it is on TV, or in the media, it has to be true. This has led to an era of misinformation and unwholly formed opinions, when a quick reading of the document, or a viewing of the film would leave a citizen with a base opinion in order to gain perspective on the effects of such media. It is almost as if Americans have given up on thinking, forming ther own opinions, and would rather have it spoon fed to them. They dont see the whole picture, Intent, and purpose are castaway like the footnotes of a book. left in, the probitive angel is easier to see, and what you would see for yourself could be compared to what is meant by the authr/write/director. and then perspective is gained. I just got back from watching the movie. After watching it and also listening to a long interview with him and hearing his life story this weekend, i have a lot of respect for him now. His goal is to draw attention to issues that he feels are important and make the nation stop, think about those issues and discuss and debate them. He does it well. Even by doing something as innocuous as calling it a "documentary" pisses people off to the point that they have to watch it just so that they can properly attack it he is achieving his goal. It is beginning to look as if he is doing that better than anyone in contemporary history ever has. Everyone is talking. Everyone is watching his movie. Everyone has an opinion about him and his work. That is a remarkable achievement.

It is the people who take what he says as the truth, rather then a particular version of things that bugs me. What Conservatives did to talk radio, this is what Moore is doing with movies. I think this could be a new genre of films being made on both sides. Basicly 2 hour long negative campaign ads. Will be interesting to see where it goes.
