Buff 06-28-2004 06:37 PM

Moore plays himself off as a man of the common people, fighting alongside them for their cause (mainly, anti-Bush and anti-large corporation).

He's just as much a man of the people as is our current president.

If he's going to champion capitalism, maybe he should apologize to General Motors.

From the Wikipedia entry for Roger & Me:

GM argues that the reason for its downsizing was fierce competition from Japanese auto manufacturers and that the only alternative to the factory closures in Flint would have been major government handouts or the abolishment of free trade. Moore briefly touches upon these issues, noting that GM and the factories were profitable when they were moved. He also brings attention to the opulent lifestyles of the rich, including Smith.

Bottom line

Moore's movie made 22mil in 3 days, 3.5 millions people saw it.

thats pretty much all that counts in this country.

Bottom Line= everything, from the leader of the freee world to a documentary filmmaker, eh?;)

Roger and Me was good, i would watch it at first, GM pulling out of there really did devastate Flint, MI. and the documentary wasn't as much going after big business, but showing the effects of what happens when a major company sends its labor overseas, and pulls out. It ould be like GE and P&G pulling out of ohio, or the devastation caused by the mining industry relying more on imports, mostly as favors, in WEst Virginia.

people should actually try for first hand opinions on anything. when i have something to say, i go to the source, if i have an opinion on a movie, i go see it before forming it.

Reading second hand information and taking it as a whole, is what is wrong with the Media, if it is on TV, or in the media, it has to be true. This has led to an era of misinformation and unwholly formed opinions, when a quick reading of the document, or a viewing of the film would leave a citizen with a base opinion in order to gain perspective on the effects of such media.

It is almost as if Americans have given up on thinking, forming ther own opinions, and would rather have it spoon fed to them. They dont see the whole picture, Intent, and purpose are castaway like the footnotes of a book. left in, the probitive angel is easier to see, and what you would see for yourself could be compared to what is meant by the authr/write/director. and then perspective is gained.

Knee jerk is knee jerk, no matter which knee is jerking. its spin either way.

I just got back from watching the movie. After watching it and also listening to a long interview with him and hearing his life story this weekend, i have a lot of respect for him now. His goal is to draw attention to issues that he feels are important and make the nation stop, think about those issues and discuss and debate them. He does it well. Even by doing something as innocuous as calling it a "documentary" pisses people off to the point that they have to watch it just so that they can properly attack it he is achieving his goal. It is beginning to look as if he is doing that better than anyone in contemporary history ever has. Everyone is talking. Everyone is watching his movie. Everyone has an opinion about him and his work. That is a remarkable achievement.

JMHO.

JR I have not seen the movie yet, but I have seen his others. Moore is very talented, and he is getting better. It is the people who take what he says as the truth, rather then a particular version of things that bugs me.

What Conservatives did to talk radio, this is what Moore is doing with movies.

I think this could be a new genre of films being made on both sides. Basicly 2 hour long negative campaign ads. Will be interesting to see where it goes.

it's perfectly fine that it bugs you. he is trying to bug you. if he didn't, you would not be discussing Michael Moore
:P

the fact that people take it as gospel is what causes the discussion and debate. i think it's very healthy for society. it's annoying, but healthy... much like broccoli and asparagus.

You are more understanding then I. I still do not have patience for morons.

I am working on it though.

Right Meni?

JR 06-28-2004 11:02 PM

your biased because you percieve that there are more morons on one side of the fence than the other. for every Torone, there is a Meni. i believe the system works because there is an equal number of morons on both sides. nature does it's part by constantly making sure the equation is balanced... when too many Torones come out of the wood work, more and more Meni's feel threated, become more vocal and take a stance.

i regret the fact that i am one of those morons... but i am not so naive that i can claim with a straight face that i am in the center, even though i am logical enough to understand that is the best place to be.

Everyone has missed the point. I don't begrudge Moore the right to be rich. I just want him to stop being a hypocrite (like Chomsky). If you hate capitalism that much, why are you enjoying the prosperity it has brought you? Instead of living in a $4million dollar condo, why aren't you living in a downtown Shitsville ghetto?

Ok, so it's ok to be a rich capitalist as long as you become a rich capitalist by telling everyone else what greedy fucks other rich capitalists are.

Got it, thanks, Meni.

Michael Moore has done his job, he's turning the lefty's into full blown conspiracists while cashing his checks that they paid for.

I wanna see him and O'Reily in a marriage ceremony in SF. That wedding video would sell.

Totally see your point, and agree with you. The hypocrisy is incredible, but Moore fans will overlook it. Just like his thing about supporting American workers, using american products and services, etc, and then he gets his website designed by a Canadian design company and hosts it on a canadian webhost. Haha.

Don't even get me started on the fucking greenies driving around town in their 5 litre SUVs. The urge to kick people in the face grows every day.

Steal this movie.
