Sar, he has been around for a while... about 3 years I think.. he was involved with a site called freetgpsubmitter.com

I think the TGP community would know the name pretty well.. I don't know if he can be trusted or not personally.. but from what I have seen of him I am very impressed with his ideas.

BTW.. I have tested out remotethumbs in a small way.. I have logged what they are transferring and dont have any major concerns about security based on my poking about.

I dont run TGP sites but if I did, this is an awesome tool for anyone running an all thumbs tgp imho. I added a TGP section to this site to test how it converts http://www.sleekssickestporn.com/galleries/ .. there was no way I would have bothered if I had to maintain data for 1200 new thumbnails and hosted gallery links that change every day.

I talked to Joe breifly about this program. I have seen the same thing a few years ago. Id test it out on a box that I didnt have anything crucial on and see how it worked. As I recall the other program worksed pretty cool.

I have no real problem with the program. I run a similar script of my own for myself (without any directories at 777 permissions of course).

I have no real problem with Boldy.

But, it is pretty damn bold to come here and clain that we should trust his program because it is him and I have never heard of him.

That is the only reason for this poll.

Why not trust remote thumbs?

I use them on 4 sites and think its a great program.

If you dont like it dont use it, but why start a pissing contest saying not to trust them?

Any software that leaves your server open is going to be suspicious. I would never let any 3rd party have long term access to my servers.

It is common sense.

I have met Joesho, I like him a lot, but I still would not put any software on my machine that others can control remotely, etc...

Thank you mike., I have two questions for you
1.)What about as a program owner, do you think it is good to be a sponsor and work remote thumbs from that end?

2.) like has been said if working it from the other end you are able to get useage and money from a small or medium size TGP that you otherwise would not be using due to time constraints, would it not be be benificial for use in that capacity?

if you have a large TGP in running, then maybe you would have these concerns become a little more prvelant to you.

but for the newre guys, or people interested in growing, but are not flush with manpower resouces or people that want to use their valuable time to build other aspects of their business this tool is a godsend. and could possibly make the difference in wether they grow, or wether they get the cold shoulder from people cause they are not sending them enough sign ups.

Joe there could be a use for your product from smaller people trying to get in. However, many times these people do not have much cash and probably tend to fail pretty quickly.

Do you want to hitch your future on these people?

I am far from an expert on TGP, its a difficult racket and gets more confusing everyday. So my opinion on specific TGP issues is probably not worth much.

I however stand by my stance on not putting software on my servers that can be controled by other people.

90% of the people bashin it here didnt even signup to have a look how it really works. The remote server is not wide open. Its a cgi-script on your server which need to write to a certain directory which has to be 777, just because most apache servers run as nobody and can't do jack shit on the filesystem.

Second you have to put a password in our interface which is generated on the script you have to upload. These passwords have to match.

You can rename the script to any name you want. name it ajskhjasASDASasdjkashdka893489273myass.cgi and a hacker will have a hard time finding it.

The script is a readable perl script, feel free to analyze it and see for yourself we dont have any intentions of cheating on our clients.

Nobody that I have seen has said not to trust it or the people involved. The people responding stated they themselves would not trust it and stated their reasons, if you would bother to read both this and the original thread. I haven't seen any piss start spewing yet.

Believe me, if anyone around here starts getting pissy, you will know it, for sure.....................

You came in looking for honest opinions, it looks like you have gotten some.

I am sure Boldy put a lot of heart and soul into the product (as a programmer I understand that completely) but if he is gonna survive over here he needs to grow a touch thicker skin.

btw, it might have gotten missed in the other thread, but the user docs need some work. The copy I dl'd didn't show very many of the graphics of the screenshots etc. If I may suggest, convert them over to html and hang em off the site to be perused. It would save the time of a dl and give better control of the graphics.
