Has anyone heard anything about this show this year? Will it happen? I've heard that it might not be at the same Hotel but thats it. Don't they usually announce this show by now?

Ill see what I can find out for you. But yes we usually know by now.

Im way behind on several projects - Im working on a lot of different things.

ok that might be a little TOO cheap I thinks theres a happy medium.

I like cybernet expo but damned if Im gonna drop that much money for it...thats the most expensive city in the US...for what it would cost to go to that show (or internext) I could spend a month in Thailand....have a much better time too

I have a solution to this convention dilemma. They should buy traffic like the rest of us. Pay us to attend and we will listen to the pictchmen.

Yup, move some shows out of the same tired over priced venues, and I might bite.

Unfortunately, Miami is pretty much the only east coast show and they park it in one of the most expensive hotels in south florida.

I'm still sad that an early summer or late spring show in Tampa didn't take hold.

Expensive city and trip though especially if flying from east coast.

It is a great show, but I need to make more than I spend on any business deal. I don't think porn conferences do it. Will I make more than the two grand it costs because of the show? prolly not. The discussion groups are mostly guys pitching something. No one will ever give out information that makes money. That you have to pay for. Another lawyer trying to scare the shit out of you, does not work for me. I just don't see an ROI. No offense Jay, I think you do a great job, its a product that I think has past its sell by date. Not just your gig, but all of them.

Sadly, everyone in the adult "show" business has learned that there are only a few venues who are willing to take the heat and host an adult show. Some chains will not accept adult, many cities have no hotels that will accept adult, etc.

Internext is at that hotel in Miami in part because it is one of the few "major" hotels on the whole East Coast that will (a) accept adult, and (b) allow for a whole hotel take over at rates that are still somewhat affordable.

Ynot / Cybernet is (I suspect) in the same boat: San Fran is one of the few places that has willing hotels / facilities that will deal with adult, at least at a price that makes any sense at all.

The number of cities you can do a "porn show" in US is a pretty short list.

Frolicon which has all types of bdsm stuff, they have in GA every yr. Fetishcon has a hotel in tampa. I think they pick that hotel in miami to soak webmasters considers its the hottest time of the yr in fl. Not big vacation time.

Id tend to agree.
Frolicon was at a Sheraton.. and a lot more flesh and activity than has EVER gone down at an industry show.

And the Sheraton was well aware of what was going on.

Perplexing is how there are how many west coast industry shows yet only 1 on the east coast?

Hell of a biz op there for someone.

Jay Id love to attend but SF is just a crazy expensive city for me to get to and spend a few days in. But gimme the schedule and I will see what I can do on account of you have always treated me well at your show.

Mike, you would actually be shocked. Many hotels have "no problem with it" until the show comes to town, the webmasters get a little rowdy, people are walking around in "lick my pussy" t-shirts, and the hotel pretty much goes into freak out shock mode.

It is either the hotel management / chain management that freaks, or more often it is the unionized hotel staff that freaks out, because one or two of their members complain about being exposed to porn stuff. Rather than work around it, most hotels accept the grievance and say "no more porn shows".

Hey Mike... our show starts during the day on June 23rd and ends Saturday night June 25 at the kink.com armory bldg.

There are tons of affordable restaurants on Polk st. just behind our hotel and our rooms are starting at like $149 / night. Yeah San Fran is an expensive city... but if you don't drive a car there and skip eating sea food and strip clubs, anyone can afford it

With San Fran being a major airline hub... if you are on a budget and share a room with someone for 3 nights, this show can cost you under $1000 to attend. Close 1 major deal or two and it's paid for itself, nevermind the importance of getting away from your desk and getting some face time with other like minded industry individuals

And no offense taken rhetorical... but you are wrong

So in the final analysis here folks... the only thing that will prove to be a pain in the ass for some of you is the east coast to west coast flight... and if you hang out in the Castro after dark.

Well I expect i could do it if i was motivated that much is true...it isnt so much the money as it is the roi but i suppose your case isnt bad. but im not a content reseller and i am overly picky about affiliates and honestly im not trying to be the next brazzers or whatever so i rarely make deals at these shows. I do like seeing old friends there and i love public speaking in open forum formats.....

Then theres the i swore i wouldnt travel until this whole tsa thing is made reasonable unless its someplace I cant drive

and i ABOHR california LOL

Has FroliCon been able to stay at the same hotel? I know they had ongoing difficulties with that for a while, but it's been a few years since I went.

As for the flesh... Well, I don't know about you, but I don't go to trades for the T&A, but I'm not booking talent either. I want to convene with people, get in front of them, discuss, and move the hell on.

Actually, having dealt with the old Lifestyles group (California) I can tell you that they had no end of problems with hotels for their events. It ends up being a very narrow list of hotels that are willing to put up with them. They usually end up getting in trouble for nudism in public areas (pools in particular), and most of their events didn't last more than a single year at a hotel, even if they could take out full hotels.

When you find hotels that will tolerate your events (and all that comes with it), they usually get used over and over again. Even in Vegas (the ultimate sin city, right?), it is incredibly hard to find a hotel that will accept swingers, porn, or adult stuff. They are just not willing to take the risks that come with it, even if you can manage just about a whole hotel take over.

There really isn't all that much public nudity at shows any more, unless the show has the entire hotel booked. I think Phoenix is the only one that still qualifies in that regard, unless the new venue for Summer Internext finds a location they can fill at current attendance levels.

I can tell you the employees participate in a lottery to be able to work that week for the show. We interviewed them on Oprano Radio. And its also a fact that they jack up all the rates too for that time. Another tidbit the employees were happy to admit on the air.

Maybe these are different hotel workers? But that aint the case in Miami.

This was the 3rd year they were at the same hotel. Show is so big they were talking about having to move to a bigger venue.

I know of 5 hotels right off the top of my head and you dont even have to rent the entire hotel.

I am going to miss the Internext/AVN Show at the Diplomat. Such a great venue and only five minutes from my house. Exxotica Miami should have a decent turnout this month, but that's more of a retail/fan show than a webmaster show.

The spin is pretty simple:

AVN bought out GFY, and "webmaster access" shows that came with it. So now AVN will have one Vegas show, and one Amsterdam / European show, and claim to cover all markets.

The Florida deal died about 4 or 5 years ago, when they stopped having a show floor and moved everyone to the poolside things. It sort of removed much of the purpose.
