Is it time to make the move to 3d?
It might be time to produce your content in 3d hd with cameras like this.

Imo stereoscopic porn will be very popular soon, the move is just a matter of time.

I agree with Tony. It's just another gimmick, might be useful as a novelty promo tool but not a major selling point for a whole site.

Re: Is it time to make the move to 3d?
This reminds me of the conversations I had ten year ago when everyone said I was nuts to spend 10 grand on an HD camera. Well, I have ten years of product, thousands of videos, with legs in HD when my competition is playing catch up with their 4 X 3 stuff being junk. You see, this camera shoots 2d 1920 and if your monitor can display it...3d. Nothing to lose. I think I am going to jump on this bandwagon. Anyone want to buy a Sony Z7U?

Re: Is it time to make the move to 3d?
As for HD I dont know if users really notice the difference between 720 and 1080. But I do know that most want to be able to fill their screen at whatever resolution they are running. So it needs to be still looking sharp at high-res or they do notice.
With increasingly sharper screens coming out in all form factors, shooting at 1080p is a good idea if you wanna use that same content for a few years. 3D is an upsell gimmick with mainstream movies at the cinema. 3D is also big with kids movies, and I think that will account for most of the home 3D sales for now. There's the occasional movie where 3D is a part of the story or used for immersion (i.e. Avatar and Tron Legacy), but for the most part it's a gimmick. It would be a novelty in porn at this point unless you're creative enough to use it to add something to the overall experience. |

My thought is, that it is better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

Re: Is it time to make the move to 3d?
I belong to bunch of mainstream videographer boards. They were talking about how 80 percent of their clients still want sd. Its cheaper to shoot and we live in a youtube age where hd quality isnt important. If your members are like why isnt this hd? Then your not shooting hotter enough content. Its a gimmick for the most part to sell more electronics. Go into a blockbuster or red box if hd was so hot. There would be no sd dvd's when thats what the bulk are and blue ray didnt just come out yesterday. on net flix a large chunk are not hd. IF you like to use it great but its not the end all be all.

Re: Is it time to make the move to 3d?
The difference between HD and 3D is that content shot in HD can still be presented at lower resolutions. 3D content can't be shown in non-3d, so you'd either have to shoot with two cameras, or shoot two separate versions.

im on my way to serbia now to meet and possibly invest in a 3d animation company. this is the future not 3-d movies imho.
i may use it for adult because no one does it any good in adult, but more the mainstream side. commercials, tv shows, movies, teaching tools ect ect |

Re: Is it time to make the move to 3d?
Its not the tv's that piqued my interest, its the computer screens. Portable 3d gaming is arriving next month and small screen 3d for close up viewing is now possible and that is where most of product is watched. Not on the 60 inch home theatres.

I can take 3D in very short periods but after a while I get a headache. That's why I never go to see movies in 3D.

Re: Is it time to make the move to 3d?
I also never watch anything in 3D. It's fine for those Disney World 10 minute videos, but anything longer just annoys me. A good friend of mine owns a high end electronics store and the 3D TV's just aren't selling. Sony and Panasonic are selling them to dealers at well below cost to try and move them to pump the sales numbers.
I can't say a word about 3D gaming as my last gaming experience was with my Atari and Colecovision! |

Re: Is it time to make the move to 3d?
I shoot a lot of porn and no one is asking me to shoot in 3D. I know a few producers do, but I haven't. I don't think it will ever be more than a niche market. In the time I would mess around with shooting and editing a 3D movie I could shoot and edit five HD movies. HD vs SD however is another story. Not only has HD become the standard acquisition format nowadays, but clients now even know the difference between HDV and the higher end full raster HD cameras. Even if one releases a movie on a standard definition DVD it will look much better if it was shot in HD. Anyone still shooting in SD now is foolish that great HDV or HD cameras are so inexpensive.

Well my friend works for mainstream TV not porn where anyone with a camera can shoot. And he only added an hd cam 2 yrs ago, he had no call for it. He still uses the sd cam a now and then. Again I will add if you think the format sells porn your kidding yourself.

I love the idea, and I think there are times it can be very well done (I've seen some really nice anaglyph, actually) - but first, we have to overcome the technological shortcomings of the human body.

Well, his clients are all sucking wind now with their old fashioned looking footage. 4 x 3 looks like black and white when colour took over. The HD component of this discussion was settled years ago and still people argue over it. Sigh. |

Mike South and you were both right..people want to see this shit on their TV. Large screen TVs are going to drive the demand or lack of it for 3D. I got my eye on a G Slate coming out later this month. Its an android tablet and it comes with a simple 3d type camera. And I have to say its threads like this that make me want to keep the board up and running as there is discussion and disagreement by people that really know what they are talking about. Refreshing when I have to read about someones dog watching them blow a load or some idiot asking you to poste a picture of your cell phone.

Those broadcast channels are on a whole other playing field. They are large screen formats and I will bet you there are production companies out there that supply those channels that are covering their asses and shooting 3d but you might not see it for years. A lot of broadcast "experts" fucked up by not shooting at least 16 X 9. Not everyone is on the ball. BTW, I haven't committed to this yet, but the clock may be ticking. Tony, what sites do you film for? |

Re: Is it time to make the move to 3d?
I just don't see anything telling me that 3D is a game changer. It may be useful as a tool for creating some additional interest, but it's never going to be a make or break factor.

Re: Is it time to make the move to 3d?
I shoot video and pictures for my wifes sites. Been doing it for over ten yrs. Im a better photographer than videographer. I prefer to capture moments but the mortgage has to be paid.
I saw that when I would shoot something for her solo site.It would get no reaction but she would be really horny and do a clip on a web cam and they would flip out about it. I read an article how youtube showed its not the image quality but the quality of the content that mattered. Plus hearing the stories from my friend who is a mainstream guy. I remember years ago videography magazine had a seminar series and it included the one chip hd jvc that came out at the time. It was one of the first of its kind and I found the image boring. As I have on all of them until the sony ex 3 came out but I wont spend that money on a cam anymore. I dont see porn as a long term path anymore The dslr hd vids I have seen that made me go wow. Im playing with that now(60D). But I will never put up full hd scenes. Because I think the bbw market you tend to get older guys joining so they dont have the latest and the greatest. Dealing with support questions like why doesnt the videos work ? We ask tell us alittle about your system and they are on windows 3.1 or Im on web tv and its not working. Im adding a streaming feature because some have asked for it but I see the nightmare support question already. lol

Re: Is it time to make the move to 3d?
I knew HD was going to be big, that was obvious, SD was a 50 year old format, it was very sharp and it was past due to be replaced.
3D OTOH is a gimmick that comes around every 20 years or so, usually as a result of a popular mainstream movie, it gets hyped as the next big thing in video and then it promptly dies. I don't see that changing really. The 3D TVs I have seen are more annoying than anything else. I expect the real next game changer will be UHD and wall sized TV screens that are about a quarter of an inch thick and weigh less than cardboard, the tuner will be separate the screen itself will be cheap and easily connected at any size. |

Re: Is it time to make the move to 3d?
Not sure if it will be 3d, but I think it is better to either offer a new system or have it ready to rock when requested. I was never asked for HD, because the public didn't really know what it was. Streaming was just expected, never requested. Most people don't request, they just skip on to the next guy that has what they want and they have slipped through your fingers.

I'm not saying 3d is taking over or will take over. But history is full of luminaries that thought everything from "modern art" to airplanes were just gimmicks. You know, like twitter.
