Wikileaks
Anyone have an opinion of this and how it will effect us? I think it will change the internet forever. Its war out there. This is amazing drama and its only just starting. What a ride. It could wake up big business and big government to file sharing and they could hammer the shit out of bit torrent and all the file sharing pirates. It may seem impossible, but so did the atomic bomb and we built that. Somebody has to win this one. I kind of think it is a no prisoners battle brewing. Wikileaks was the first real shot across the bow, the government is on its heels. But it will recover and they have a lot of talent. After all someone created Stuxnet which was an amazing piece of work.

Re: Wikileaks
My gut tells me that the democrats hate it, the republicans hate it, so it MUST be GOOD.
There is little doubt that Assange's arrest is nothing more than a US backed attempt to get payback. All this nonsense about charging him with treason shows how fucking stupid our politicians are, he isn't a US citizen he cant be charged with treason. When someone shines a light and the cockroaches scatter It just doesnt seem right to blame the guy with the light because you have a cockroach infested house. |

Re: Wikileaks
The whole thing "smells" a bit to me.
I'm not sure it's not a planned "leak."

Re: Wikileaks
"Executive Order 13526, includes the following. Perhaps the official should send a letter to the federal government warning them that their continued use of false national security claims to hide the government's crimes and to avoid embarrassment is a violation of the order.
"Sec. 1.7. Classification Prohibitions and Limitations. (a) In no case shall information be classified, continue to be maintained as classified, or fail to be declassified in order to: (1) conceal violations of law, inefficiency, or administrative error; (2) prevent embarrassment to a person, organization, or agency; (3) restrain competition; or (4) prevent or delay the release of information that does not require protection in the interest of the national security." |

I am of two minds here. I fully support Wiki but the other supporters are bad for business and that always comes first. I suppose you can only pull the big dog's tail for so long until he bites back. That could be the outcome of this. And as far as treason or any other charges against Assange, they will fail and I hope they do. He is shining a light on cockroaches and you know what they say...Roaches check in but they don't check out....of the Roach Motel. |

The catch with anything "legal" here is where's the juristiction? Assange isn't a U.S. citizen. BUT... he knowingly accepted information that was clearly both stolen and highly classified. he then in turn distributed it at least indirectly for profit since he did have income streams coming from the site. Everything that has followed has been predictable. A british jail may be safest place for him right now. I certainly wouldn't want to be in a car with him when he hits the starter. |
