Dude gets busted for feeding bears...not for growing pot
CHRISTINA LAKE (NEWS1130) - A Christina Lake man accused of feeding bears dog food and getting them to guard his grow op has been charged.

Allan Wayne Piche has been charged with feeding dangerous wildlife. The penalties for such an offence can be pretty steep: $100,000 fine, a year in jail, or both.

The bears were completely dependent on humans for food and there were concerns over whether they'd be able to return to the wild when they were discovered in late July by police.

Inspector Aaron Canuel with the Ministry of the Environment says the bears are in good health and most of them are hibernating now. "Our hope is that the majority of the bears will go back into the wild and acclimatize into that setting. We'll cross that bridge when we get to it," he states.

Piche appears in court next month.
