On a side note: Not many people know this: Just as a matter of your own safety and well being, all cell phone calls to 911 (in California) are patched through to the California Highway Patrol. So, if you can imagine how many calls they're receiving from across the state, and their staffing issues, then you can probably expect to be on hold for 10 minutes.

I'm not by any means justifying or condoning. This is intended to inform you and perhaps offer some advice.

If you know your local police or sheriff's station's phone number, program it into your phone for speed dial. If you need emergency services, you will get a much quicker response this way. Even if they have to transfer your call, they'll transfer it to their own local 911 center.

And now thanks to the news, we all know that 911 services are not capable of tracking your location when you're using a cell phone...fun.

Anyway, I hope there's no ill will - it seems like there might be as evidenced by a couple of the comments.
