Default "The Longest Yard" Remake

Husband and I watched the remake of "The Longest Yard" last night, starring Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Burt Reynolds and a case of kazillions.

Admittedly, the original has faded way back into my memory. I remember watching it and loving it - but nothing else.

I loved the remake. However, I admit, the reason I loved the remake may be *because* the original has faded in memory. (Usually, remakes of just about anything make me want to shriek extraordinarily bad language.)

Can anyone who either remembers the original more clearly or who has watched both of them recently offer a comment?

I adore football movies. "The Replacements" is one of my favorites, that I intend to see if I can get on DVD soon.

In fact...I pretty much adore all sports movies, even movies about sports that I don't follow.

I loved the original.

I haven't seen the remake and probably wont because I can't stand Adam Sandler. I hated him on SNL and I avoid his movies.

I love Adam Sandler movies. (I don't watch SNL, haven't since the original, which was so funny I hurt myself...then...it stopped being funny to me.)

I like his movies because he usually plays characters with such a sense of "goodness" in them.

There's another comic actor whose name is currently escaping me - he was in "Son-In-Law" - that I've seen interviewed and I absolutely despise him. However, the characters he plays are always good at heart. "Encino Man" was another movie where he played a nice, goofy guy that I liked.

It's a remake of "The Longest Yard." I don't know whether it was released under another title, or whether the "original" "The Longest Yard" was itself a remake.

The name of the convict team in the movie was "Mean Machine."

The remake was ok. I greatly enjoyed the original. The death of the prison inmate was handled 1000 times better in the old one. In the remake it was just kinda there...

Paulie Shore. Oh God I despise him. Absolutely no talent. If it wasn't for his mother, he would have never made it in the business.

I actually had to ask my husband "did that happen in the original?" I couldn't remember. He told me how it was done, and how the director's focus on the lightbulb in the remake could be considered an "homage"...or a set up to make you think it was going to happen again.

I have to admit - and I'm more than willing to take accusations of "you're such a chick sometimes" - that scene really rocked me. I wasn't expecting it and it floored me. I really liked the character...so it hurt.

Red...I liked the way his character in "Son In Law" effected the family, especially the mother. I hope never to hear him speak as a "real person" again, though.
