"Hell" is an invention made to frighten ignorant peasants into toeing the rich churches line.

Aren't we lucky?

One assumes you've clicked the "start new topic" button on the list of forums for the main board?

I personally do not like the guest post thing.

Will bring the tone of the place down IMHO.

I'm a supporter of you to Nick.

And that was childish for a man of your age.

I don't play schoolyard favorites, I'm a little past that.

From you, pathetic AND childish.

Really.

Nick was screwed up the ass w/o lube or dinner first by Lee - I think he has every right to say what he said.

That was an attempt at levity. Apparently, a badly formed one for which I take responsibility and apologize.

I most certainly do not want you harmed in any way, which is how you - I believe - interpreted it. It was not intended to be interpreted that way. I was under the impression that this entire thread was just a bit lighter than it obviously is.

So...you truly think that the "tone" of Oprano is so low that it can't be lowered. A very low opinion of this board, indeed. One may justifiably enquire as to why you're here?

If you chose to let that "grow up" comment stand, so be it. You've never struck me as that kind of person in our admittedly short acquaintance, however. You've always seemed much nicer a person than that.

Exchange barbs with Nick to your heart's content. But please don't snipe at me. I take absolutely nothing on any message board personally except being misunderstood. If I say something that offends you, please do me the courtesy of finding out what I meant first.

Your snipe = my snipe

Your apology = an equal apology from this corner.

My only original point was a personal one that if guests can post then there is a danger that the board I do enjoy pretty much most of all may suffer (I even said at the end of my post IMHO).

So mutual misunderstanding I think is from what we suffer my friend.

And for that, I warmly and sincerely apologise.

*huggles on CTB*

I wonder if anyone lurking will observe what rational people can accomplish if the genuinely try to communicate with each other? (One can dream!)

I want to believe...no, change that...I *need* to believe that the "tone" of the board will always be set by the grownups. Certainly, with the new allowing of anonymous posters, we'll have drive by insults. But it will always be our choice whether or not we rise when baited...or amuse ourselves by pissing, should it be the mood to do so.

Remember being a newbie? The questions, the concerns...the deep seated feeling that the question you're about to ask is going to make you look like an idiot and no one will ever do business with you again? I remember that vividly. One of the first thing I thought of was that anonymous posting will allow the novice webmasters to have those posts that always seem to start with "this may be a dumb questions, but..." without fear. All the novices out there reading this that have questions...well...ask them! Don't register yet, just post your questions and get your answers anonymously. When you feel ready, register and establish your identity in the business.

CTB, you can look at anything from different perspectives. Will we get assholes? You betcha. Will we get people who genuinely want help but have been too timid to ask? I most devotely hope so.

You and I can get together sometime and run a workshop on "How to Be an Adult in Adult."

Well said Morgan.

We will have assholes posting whether they have to register or not. People who choose to remain anon, have posted under aliases so no one knows who they are, this is really no different.

And You're right about the noobs being intimidated. Hopefully, this will help them to get over their fear and eventually join the mix as themselves.

I don't disagree Morgan, one of the things I love most about this place has been the "put up or shut up" attitude of the hardcore members towards new faces.

I myself was put through intitiation by fire when I first began posting (ah, the sweet memories), but unlike MANY others over time, I stepped up to the plate, copped it sweet and gave it back as good as I got. And here I am today bad Elton John tune playing in background.

Oprano to me has always been about establishing your bonafides, and my PERSONAL concern about the guest thing is it lets peeps hide behind the veil of anonymity.

There may obviously be a method behind that madness that I am unaware of (and I could almost smell that with this being Nick's board), and I respect that, it is just personally I see the cons altogether too clearly. That is my 2c and my 2c only.

On your workshop idea, the real pity is that the really sad thing about common sense is that it is not so common.

But you and I and like minded others can ALWAYS enjoy some cold beverages and each other's company, anytime - mi casa es su casa when it comes to friends IMHO.

We can even invite Gonzo. That way we can also have donuts.

I have often wondered why on earth it's even called "common sense." It seems an oxymoron at the very least. It's like manners. Didn't all adults at some point have mothers who said "be polite"? Or at the very least, didn't a grade school teacher or two raise the subject? What on earth happened? I wasn't given the impression that my mother's mandate (for it was indeed a "mandate," no options here!) on good manners had an expiration date. "You only have to be polite when you're a child...but when you get to be an adult, all rules expire and you can be an idiot - especially in your place of business because that's just ever so becoming and will guarantee you go far."

A story:

My youngest daughter was in a spelling bee in middle school. The word given was "doughnuts." She, being my daughter, spelled it "doughnuts." The teacher cleared his throat, looked startled, and said "uh...of course that's correct, however I was looking for 'donuts.'" My daughter gaped at him until he blushed scarlet. She fumes about that to this day.

You's a gwown-up, CTB, and may of course spell the word however you choose. (You may *not,* however, spell "bouquet" as "bokay" as the florist in town did until I went in and said "if I buy one from you will you change that horrible sign?!?!?!?" The owner looked at me and said "you're kidding. It doesn't really say that?")

I bring this whole thing up because of that very human quirk. Ever been with someone who mispronounces a word horribly...then you find three seconds later you have to use the same word and do the mind scramble trying to find a replacement word so that you don't have to either A. mispronounce it, too, so you don't embarrass your friend or B. pronounce it correctly and just hope for the best?

I was going to make a cute little bit about "doughnuts?!?!?!? There will be *dougnuts*!!!!" I even had the smilie mentally picked out. Then I hit a wall. That's not how I spell that word. (I think it's fallen into general usage so much it's no longer considered a misspelling by most dictionaries.) But...it's not how I spell it. I tried to force myself to spell it your way. My fingers said "nope." So I told the story about my daughter and the spelling bee...and then dragged out the happy smilie.

I like doughnuts, no matter how they're spelled. Especially the old fashioned kind. I really, really liked the Dunkin' Donuts ones with the handle built into them...although I never dunk them. I think that's a great way to screw up a cup of coffee.

I think we need Gonzo in here with some virtual dough/do/nuts!

CTB I have no problems with you.

But Lee fucked over someone and someone(s) who thought he was a friend.

Not getting the best of someone over a deal , thats fair game...but literally walking into a "friends" house and stealing the silverware.

Not a straight out scam. At least thats front on.

Nope his way , was weasel his way in, get given the keys, and then steal.

No worries though.

I'll still buy you dinner.

And as far as he is concerned....... I'll bide my time

When ( I say "when" , not "if") he fucks you over , you'll see.

Come on Nick. Fair is fair. Spammers are all cut from the same cloth. This is the pot calling the kettle black. You guys would sell your sisters for a big "double opt in" list. Money talks and friendship walks.

I'm one of those weird people that see a difference between spammers and scammers.
And if you've got a double opt-in list, it's not spam.

Define "big".

I might throw in my mother as a bonus.
