I know that I'm going to regret starting this but here we go
I have been trying the search engines and so far things are going ok on certain keywords but the traffic isn't massive and every time they re-index I sometimes fall massively.
So I'm thinking:
Should I double my SE work OR start submitting to the big TGP's and get a mass of traffic?
Is the search engine quality better than the TGP quantity?
Your SE traffic will always be better (conversion wise) than your TGP traffic IMHO.
The TGP traffic (and big linklist traffic) will give you a big rise in your logs but not in your sales as far as I have always found.
You can increase your SE traffic by building and linking and building and linking. Once the sites are established in the SEs then you should not see the fall off at reindex time (usually, although I have had google screw me big time once or twice). I have fallen out of the SEs at time when I made changes to capitalize on the various terms people were finding me on, not always a good move I have never fallen out when I have just provided more links in to the site.
Being listed on the big guys TGPs and Linklists can definitely help with the SEs though, so it is not necessarily a straight either/or.
I've worked the TGP's and you can grab a whole bucket load of traffic really quick, problem is it's TGP traffic and is so used to getting their shit for free that you've really got to know how to sell them! Or you're going to burn alot of bandwidth with nothing to show!
SE traffic is easier to work with imho... but it'll take time to get the levels a TGP can throw at you.
The choice is yours at the end of the day but I'd say try both!
TGP is quick and dirty but SE traffic, once it gets going, is mpre productive to your bottom line. That said, there are people that make good money in both.
I gave up on the tgp traffic thing a LONG time ago
ain't nything like going in to view your stats and seeing your ratios at 0:2500
one of the first real things I did in this biz was se feeder pages, thousands of them...and my ratios never hit above 1:100...but the traffic isn't near as much as tgp...but god damn the ratios are good...
i am back doing my se shit full time now, and honestly, i could never imagine getting ratios higher than 1:500...and if do get some like that, i pull links...i have far too many sponsors giving me 1:20 to even bother with anything above 1:500
se is the best, if I were you I would put full concentration on that

From what I've picked up in the last few days is that 1/100 is a great ratio but not good $$$ if you only have 100 hits!

that is why you create hundreds, if not thousands of pages...that way even if it is 1:100 ratio, you have hundreds of pages all pulling that ratio in....and when you hit top search terms, you are golden
i have one site doing 1:13 right for me....and that is with a top search term for that site....getting about 150 hits a day....normally 150 hits a day ain't much, but with a 1:13 it is pretty nice

I notice you say "when you hit top search terms, you are golden"
There are no guarantees though are there
hehe, yeah...for me it is all a game of hit or miss...i do know people that can hit whatever top term they want, but i am not one of those people...LOL

Nopers, no guarantees, no warranties (either implied or explicit)
You just put the stuff out there and when you hit something that works...repeat and repeat and repeat..
and when things are going slow and your feeling like you're wasting your time, you come back here and we give you a good swift kick to keep you on track.
But you also got to come and tell us when things are going good too (it is a two way street)

just curious
;-)
why you askin?
pr is worthless
maybe you can answer this for me though...why is it when I put links up on these pr5 pages I have, do the search engines pick up my pages so quick? i never have understood it...i put a link up on one of my pr5's and it gets picked up by yahoo and google by the end of the day...it baffles me every time...
maybe I should try and sell some stuff on my pages that get picked up quick...i have just been making jokes and medical info pages out of them
Traffic is simply a profit analysis needing to be run.
If you spend $1 on SE traffic to make $2 and you can spend $1 on TGP traffic to make $2, this does not mean that one is better or worse than the other.
It simply means that it takes about 10 times as many TGP hits to make a buck as it does SE hits (I'm using this for simple math, not an actual number that is true fyi), so you want to make sure that you are spending either 10 times less time getting the TGP hits or ten times less money getting the TGP hits on a PER HIT basis than you are on the SE traffic.
There is no such thing as bad traffic. ALL traffic, no matter how crappy, can serve a purpose. Monetizing your traffic is the first step to understanding how this business really works.
One other lesson I learned from Nick, and from Tommy, way back when, was that EVERY hit should either get you cash or another surfer to try and get cash with.
Traffic is THE lifeblood of this business. If you don't have processing, you don't have sites, you don't have affiliates, you don't have a fucking brain in your head, but you do have traffic, you can always make money.
Content might be king, and processing might be the Achilles heel, but traffic RULES.

That is the one thing everyone should take some serious time to learn..how to get the most out of every drip of traffic you have......no clicks or hits should be wasted
if you have a page that is getting nice hits, but no conversions...keep tweaking with it til you start seeing sales....once you start seeing sales, remember what you did last time, save that and tweak something else, see if you get more sales or less...and KEEP toying with it...and once you start seeing the end result you want, leave it until it drops
lots of tweaks!!! and when it works, REPEAT REPEAT!!!

There is traffic so crappy that it wont convert anything near what I would consider reasonable. In which case, I'd gladly pass it on to someone else in exchange for a new surfer.
hahahaha, yeah...i guess i would have to agree with that....for some reason my 404 traffic has ALWAYS been that way...i have never found anything that can convert it...LOL
