although i got some really great gifts this year (every year i get great stuff), this year was better then most just to see the expression on my best friends face when he opened his gifts.......that, to me, was the greatest gift thusfar.

I spent it with three nieces and nephews aged 1-3 and watching them open their hundreds of presents and then tossing the toys aside and playing with the boxes and wrapping paper was worth the price of admission. :P

Also seeing family that I hadn't seen in a year or so was wonderful. We're one of those odd families where everyone gets along. We even had Christmas night dinner at my stepmother's ex-husbands house - I mean EVERYONE gets along!

One thing my brother and my SIL did last night was really cool - they gave everyone a can of Playdoh and you had to create something with it for a prize (they were originally going to make us sing for our supper - thankfully they know how none of us can sing ). You could trade colors in all or in part with others. I had to leave early, but my other brother, sister and her boyfriend were STILL working on theirs after 30 minutes, so they better be really good, hehehe. It was fun and I'll get some pictures and post them.

I also found out how invaluable a digital camera can be when you like a particular kind of wine someone's brought and know you'll never be able to remember the name.

I just LOVED watching my Granddaughter devouring all her gifts.... she had total sensory overload trying to figure out WHICH gift to play with, and whether or not to open another or play with the last one! LOL

... then it dawned on me.. that grandpa was the one that they meant by "... some assembly required..."

I guess you might say that I got a whole 'new life for Christmas.....

I have to raise my goals now - because I have now exceeded them. I have my beautiful unique home on the water, filled with beautiful things that make me happy. I have my new boat & jaccuzz, and other toys, that I just dreamed about. I guess all I need now is someone special to share it all with :-)

i envy your family get along. it's got to be nice to know that you can just sit there and have a good time. the only person i speak to in my family is my grandmother. i talked to her yesterday and she was just so happy (she's 82 or 83) so that really made my day.
I forgot that my "real" mother really doesn't get alone with anyone. But she doesn't like us any more than we like her and spends most of her time here (she's from FL) with her side of the family. She's considered a small irritant to the rest of us so we don't let her rain on our parade.

Grandparents have an extra amount of love they're able to dole out.

FB, You need to post some updated pics of your granddaughter!! I have only seen the one of you holding her when she was first born!!!

Peaches,
That's awesome that for family gets along so well. Mine does too...for the most part....but hubby's side is a different story....although we are getting along better than ever now that his mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer.....sad that it took something like that to make it happen.

The playdough thing sounds so great! I love getting creative at get-togethers and celebrations.

At my sisters wedding, she decided no clanking glasses or even singing songs with 'love' in them for the bride and groom to kiss......she (rather I) made these huge 1.5ft by 1.5ft dice. Each die had 1 set of lips on them, the rest...number. People got up throughout dinner to roll the dice on the dance floor. If you got one set of lips, they kissed normally. If you got two sets of lips, it was a looooong kiss....if you got NO lips, YOU had to kiss someone! It was creative and very fun.

Sharpie,
You go girl!!! Congrats on attaining all your goals!! Not many people can say that. I wish you the best of life in 2004 and that you'll meet that special person to share it all with!!

It was my daughters first xmas. She is only 4.5 months old though and teething. She had an absolutely miserable day and cried through most of the present opening...hahaha. Poor girl.

My 2.5 year old son however, had a BLAST! He opened a few presents, then got to one from grandma....it was a garage with a bunch of cars.....that was it. It ruined it for the rest of the presents....hehe. He had no interest in anything else except the cars and garage....he was adorable.

It was also fabulous to watch my older two open their presents. They are getting older and more mature now, and my present selection reflected that. My oldest (12) got a Lord of the Rings chess set which he adores. My 10 year old got the full hockey gear he wanted and was thrilled. It was soooo awesome to see them so happy.

As for me, I think I like my fuzzy pink slippers the best.

My two kids (11 and 7) write a letter to Santa every Christmas eve. My 11 year old boy, in his letter, requested that Santa bring some special gifts to his friends, with not one mention of anything for himself. I thought that was extremely special!

Bill,

If he is 11 , I think you just got "played" ;-))))

He knows that YOU read them and thought a sweet touch like that might just loosen the old purse strings ;-))))

Jen and I did the Angel for Christmas thing and adopted a couple of kids down in south Missouri. A three year old and a four year old. We delivered Christmas to Grandma around 6:30pm Christmas Eve. We had prearranged with her to have the kids away from the house when we were there. Brought all the presents in, set em up under the tree and all that. Talked to grandma for a few minutes and then skedaddled.

Felt very good driving the 3 hours back home

Watching my kids get what the holiday s all about.
As I mentioned on NetPond:

There was a family on the news that lost their house to a fire just before Christmas and my kids were watching and saw these little kids in the hospital and knew that they lost all their presents, so my oldest son went over to our tree and said "Daddy, I have too many presents, can I give them one?" then my daughter chimed that she too wanted to give away one of her gifts to one of these little kids who lost everything to a fire. So, the next day, we dropped off the presents to the hospital.

Well, today, we go a nice thnk you card from the family and another from the nurses who were attending the children. They were touched that such young kids would be so generous.

I think the fact the little kids were my kids' ages it hit them that it could be them (plus they remember when we had the fire and lost almost everything.

I've always taught my kids that compassion isn't a weakness and caring for others isn't a bad thing and I think they picked up that lesson. I also made sure they got a little something extra this year from Santa.

Things like that almost make me not hate Christmas as much as usual ;-)

Well, that and my Indiana Jones boxset ruled the fucking world ;-)

sounds like everyone had a really good holiday. if there is one thing, make sure to cherish those around you. i dont speak to my family so my friends are now my family and i never really show just how much i appreciate them. these people have done more for me in 10 years they my family did in 19 (thats when i booked out so fast i would have created a world record in home leaving if there were such a catagory).

hope you all have a great, safe, healthy and prosperous new year!

I don’t even celebrate Christmas but got a diamond tennis bracelet and matching earrings, free maid service for a month, a few massages…

The best presents this month didn’t cost anything but they keep giving… my neighbor brought me a small wild pig must have been 2 days old found running around without the mother and a 1 day old goat kid who’s mother’s milk didn’t work. I’ve been bottle feeding them and keeping them together. Too damn cute. Once SweetT gets our servers back up I’ll upload some video.

December has truly for me this year otherwise. I hurt my knee pretty bad and it’s still fucked up. It’s hard to sit in my chair online so I bought myself a new laptop. Then I got the flu.

I’m READY for a New Year!
