$140 and a box of Zyban later, I'm ready to give it a go tomorrow. Doc told me it was too late to start with the Zyban, but the OB told me it wouldn't harm the baby whatsoever. So Zyban it is.

I'm looking forward to it - my Mom had some one time and I took it for 3 days, didn't even have the urge to smoke and I was just perfectly happy and feeling good about life in general without that fake "I'm only happy because I'm drugged" feeling.

Wish me luck tomorrow! It'll be good to get this expensive, stinky monkey off of my back.

Be careful. Zyban can make you spacey and mess with your moods. Best of luck though. If you really want incentive, every time you crave a cigarette, think of what it does to the baby. It's hard as hell, I quit about a year ago and sometimes I still get killer cravings.. But I keep thinking to myself what it would do the baby and it squelches the desire, if not the craving. Keep lots of crunchy things around. Carrots and veggies.. I find these are really the most effective things. Chewing gum can help too. I always chewed the whitening gum that was actually good for my teeth

Carrie, I used Wellbutrin. I really liked it and it has no side effects. It is less money than Zyban, as there is a generic for it. There seems to be no problem with any other medicines you are taking. I found that it really helped with stress also.

After 30 years of smoking I quit. I went to a hyptonist who suggested carrying a bottle of water with me - like I used to carry cigarettes. The bottle of water became my 'new best friend. When I wanted a cigarette, I took a swig of water. I was surprised how easy it was.

I backslid during the Cybernet in Montreal when my back went out, and I was in so much pain.All ll I could do was just sit around with all the smokers for 3 days. I leave to move to Florida for the winter, in a week. The day after moving, I am going to quit again. I know I can do it now...... I know what works for me. It also makes it easier when none of my friends down there smoke.

Well, I must say good luck!! I hope this works for you! Keep us posted on your progress. With this drug you are taking are you suppossed to stop cold turkey one day or over time?

I have a very bad habit of wanting to smoke when I drink. Its amazing, because normally smoke makes me sick to my stomach. Aaahhhh the effects of a good chocolate martini

I've thought about Zyban myself. I know a few people who have taken it, and after a few days they, 1). would forget to smoke and 2). think it tasted disgusting when they did...

I stopped smoking about 15 years ago before they had anything. Cold turkey is the only way. :P

What's the effect of the Zyban on the baby?

Ask ClemsonTiger how well my own person "Make your kid stop smoking" method works.

I've known a couple people with serious lung and heart conditions cause their mothers smoked while they were in the womb. Could never play sports or engage in too much physical activity, in addition they never could not smoke anything themselves either as the doctor said it was not a good idea. They have suffered their entire lives cause mom needed to smoke during pregnancy. Such a shame.

I've never been a cigarette addict or a mom, but congrats on the pregnancy.

Good Luck Carrie!

I as well have tried wellbutrin. Unfortunately, my body didn't like it much and I ended up with a red, itchy rash all over me...ick!

So I went to the patch and it worked. I did 3 months, and then when I was in the midst of buying a house I broke....I guess it was the stress.

I'm quitting again soon using the patch....

OK. this is weird - I sent CT the link to the site and it allowed him to log in as me. I've never posted on his computer so there's no way my PW information is in it.

Then I thought I'd be nice and edit it out for him since it posted under my info, but there's no "edit" option for the post in MY name, but there is for the post under CT's username, I clicked it and it was going to let me edit it - even though it wasn't my post!

I've only had ONE glass of wine tonight so something's not working here - it's not just me.

I decided to quit about a week ago.

I was never a big smoker, but I found myself having a few everyday for almost 6 months, id go thru maybe 1.5-2 packs a week. Been 7 days strong, no cravings...

every time I see someone smoking a cigarette, I realize how disgusting it is. Good luck!

Im supposed to be the NA and AA for the addicted moms.

Ive been though NA, and AA, i feel njo fucking pitty for these addicted moms.

I feel so bad that she is addicted to nicotin so much she is willing to risk her childs life.

Sorry guy, ive had friends that couldnt even snowboard becayse mom was a cig addict, you expect sympathy fro me?

not in this life time.

There is not one person on this board that would congratulate a woman FOR smoking during pregnancy.

I can see how most parental abuse is covered up, hell its accepted amongst adults.

So ok, we cool now, let it all go back to how it was.... never turn your back on an addiction, its sad kids have to fight a war mommy started.

I have worked with kids, both deaf and abandoned, in fact I have raised money for them for over a decade. I will never let some half ass mom get in the way of what a kid deserves.

I have worked with klids and they deserve more than they get.

make me out to be the bad guy, its silly.

i have put in more hours to chuild rehabilitation that most have put in for their own kids.

it isnt my responsibility but i do it because it feels right....

keep making me out to be an asshole when im the martyr for the children you dont even have.

i have given kids a smile when they had none.

THAT is what makes me scream for them when their own parents are poisoning them.

Cherry, I asked if anyone was quitting for the holidays because in case you haven't noticed, I am one of 3 people on this board who are pregnant and AFAIK, the other two don't smoke.
So asking the non-pregnant women and the can't-get-pregnant men if they are quitting smoking for their pregnancies would have been rather stupid, don't you think?
I thought if anything, someone else might be quitting around this time for the holidays.

You guys can berate me and bash me all you want, ignoring the fact that I am trying to quit. The mere fact that you are ignoring that makes all of your rantings and preachings moot.
