I don't contend that only the left is into forced taxation. The right is equally slimy in principle, but in action, their ideology is to steal LESS.
Why do you use "forced" as if it's really not by force?

Hey buffy ... you quote one instance of a leftist academic who fabricated figures about a subject that gets you aroused (guns), and use that as some sort of proof that all academics - or at least all leftist academics - falsify information, and you have the gall to denigrate public school education?
Have daddy ask for his money back.

Even reading for entertainment purposes I often read things twice. Hell, I have books I've read 15-20 times because I enjoy them so much.
|
My son can read books, watch movies, TV shows, etc. tens and tens of times. I just can't. I need something to really hold my attention, and when I already know what's going to happen, I lose all interest.
There are a handful of movies I can watch more than once - Shawshank and Princess Bride are two I can think of off the bat, and I can watch repeats of West Wing for some reason, but the vast majority just bore me after the first time. I can't read ANY book more than once and I've tried.

I know who won the last presidential election.
Why? Well that'll just be my opinion won't it, Serge?
You can't win a bet based on my opinion versus your opinion.

Youve never picked up a book that held your attention?
What about books of essays?
Did you go to college at all?

Because it's no more "forced" than me being "forced" to pay for something that I walk out of a store with.
In Australia my taxes go towards lots of things I like - parks, roads, medical care for all, libraries, art galleries etc. I am getting something for my money. Hell, I don't even mind paying for welfare. What do I get out of that? I don't have to see people with styrofoam coffee cups begging for money on the streets of my city.
|
If you choose not to buy something at the store, the shopkeeper will not come to your house with a gun and force you to buy it.
Should you choose not to pay the percentage of taxes that goes to fund abortions because you are morally opposed to them, the government WILL come and get you.
Your illusions of force and choice are interesting...
What about people that might like to see homeless people on the sidewalk and more money in their bank account? You feel it is your right to impose on them YOUR desire not to see styrofoam coffee cups, through taxation for programs YOU believe in. Therefore, the religious right and you are on the same moral ground. Congratulations for joining them in their piety.

Not the after reading them the FIRST time, which I believe is what the discussion is about. Of course books catch my attention - I read all the time.
