"please respect my educaton."

Unfortunately, until some teacher TELLS you that your best heard whispering, and that using vulgarities in a debate makes you look weak, well I guess you wont learn.

Dont steal my words. Scooter is mine.

Spaz, I have been doing this shit on boards non stop since BBS days, I am glad you feel special and think I want your approval.

The very last people I want or need recognition from is a board load of psuedo-pornographers. What could it possibly achieve? I dont do business here. I dont go to IAs or any regional cons. I am personal friends with nobody on here. Why in gods name do you think I want and need your love and approval? The only people I care about are the ones that hold my paper.

I wonder how you got a nick with Spaz in it.

wonder no more
'spaz' is a shortened version of newbiespaz from way back in my..........lets called the exploitive days, when i was surrounded by the Elite I would always ask questions, dozens of them at a time. Hungry to learn what they knew. They answered only because
1)I did not repeat the question, but would rather seek clarification
2)Showed them that I applied their answers to tasks at hand
I was/am a spaz because when i see the chance to learn from someone I jump on it and beat them to death with questions.
I wear the nick spaz with pride bro.
Do I think I am special? Mom said I was. Do I think I am special to you? Why yes I do because I disappointed you when I stated (correctly I might add) that I 'owned' you heh heh. If you care not then how could I possibly have illicited an emotion like disappointment? Hum, curious

and scooter.....................I ENJOYED that word and shall use it at my liesure thank you very much slappy

ahhhh, your wrong there. I have said numerous times. I am one of your fat lazy high school grad Americans. I desire to be seen as I am no pretense, no BS. What you see here is what you get. I am goofy as hell most times, but quite capable of carrying on a descent conversation if the situation calls for it

I didn't google anything -- I wrote an essay about the anti-gun nuts, specifically the frauds.

When you come back this evening, I hope you tell us something about animal rights or better yet, environmentalism. Maybe you can explain to us how the Imperial US is trying to destroy the environment by not signing the UN Kyoto Pact or something.

You fucking leftists -- this is like Alexandr Karelin fighting the Star Wars Kid.

I don't want for shit, Labret. I command respect because

1. I am smarter and more educated than the vast majority of people you look up to, and

2. I can beat the fuck out of people.

Interesting that some people like to pretend there is Conservative "logic" (conveniently forgetting Liberal "logic")....when really, there is only logic itself.....

There are conservative and liberal AGENDAS, and both of them are so contradictory that any attempt to make them "logical" is doomed to failure.

The deluded wish that either side is more intelligent, educated, logical, emotional, whatever; is hysterical.

I totally fucking disagree....

Words are words. They are used for particular emphasis, and in the appropriate forum (HERE), they are not only appreciated for their color, but for their ability to convey strong meaning....

"You are an imbecile" is not nearly as powerful as "you are a FUCKING imbecile...."

Nothing like a discussion where everyone can get on the same well worn soapboxes as always, and bleat the same sheep-ish comments.

However, getting back to DJ's original question:

Each person grows up in a collection of circumstances, many of them beyond their control. They grow up in a conservative area, a liberal area, a communist area, a one party state, a democracy, or any other flavor in between all of those. Some people live in the city all their lives, others have never visited a place with more than a few thousand people living in it.

When you grow up, you learn to either like or dislike the situation you are in. You are exposed to certain "solution sets" by government and your local "environment" and you are able to see them as good or bad in your eyes based on the results.

In the end, I suspect that political leanings have way more to do with what worked and what didn't during key times of your life. I suspect that a large number of USA conservatives on this board, example, were in their formative years during the Reagan era, which was a high water mark for a very pure brand of conservatism. The negatives of that presidency didn't come out until long after the president was gone. So basically the good impressions of "America in Charge" were instilled.

I was born and raised during a very "liberal" time in Canadian History, the first Prime Minister I can really remember is the late Pierre Elliott Trudeau, who ran Canada on and off over for maybe 15 years. Canada seemed better when he was there, and the conservative governments that got into power in between seemed never to be quite in tune with what Canada really wanted. When the Conservatives under Brian Mulroney (a good friend of Bush sr) caem to power with a huge majority, they did what they felt was right, and were rewarded with the biggest drop off in Canadian history the next time around, going from ruling party to essentially no longer existing, now down to being nothing more than a third ranking party. The liberal party of Canada is pretty much the only national party at this point.

Am I a "victim" of upbringing? Yes, almost without a doubt. I have lived in a place where conservative policies have "failed", and where the Liberal party and it's policies have ruled the roost for a large part of my lifetime. So far, I have yet to see the process or ideas of conservativism put into action in a way that was beneficial for the people overall in the long run. There was always short term benefits, but the costs of those benefits came back to haunt us all later.

I don't intend to "discuss" this back and forth on the board, I think we all know that there are some people here who enjoy nothing more than destroying a discussion with a stupid name calling back and forth that isn't productive for anyone. I just wanted to add my experiences and you can all take them for what it's worth (and some will think they aren't worth much!).

Alex

All I said was is the claims made by Peaches that academia is rampant with made up stats and kook science is bullshit in that we have checks and balances.
Have you resorted to lying about what I said in order to prove your points? Here's a refresher course:

Quote:
If you think for one minute that "facts" aren't created in academia, you're kidding yourself. My brother just left his post doctorate "position" (I put that in quotes because it only paid $35K a year and HE was responsible for the almost 100 hours he put into filling out the paperwork for his grant request which paid that $35K) at Duke in genetics because of what he saw once he reached the "lofty levels". And he was dealing with MEDICAL studies which were fudged. If you think the same can't be done by a teacher dealing with prison populations, you truly aren't as smart as you think you are. Again, I would never trust ONE PERSON as a source for any information.
Quote:
Obviously not everything which is taught in schools (any school) is falsified, fudged, created etc. I never said that. But there ARE professors who will spew incorrect information, usually because they themselves think it's 100% correct. Even my own son challenged a professor in college and the professor was proven wrong - it happens.
Quick - play like Fletch when I point out his errors and say you don't really bother reading my posts. :P But if you're going to refer to them, at least get the facts straight, OK?

While I know there is fraud in the system, I've personally worked with a lot of people who've ran into hard times, I'm met a LOT who simply need a little help getting back on their feet and are trying their damnedest to do it...

I've also had to deal with a lot of people with various mental disorders (not including myself ;-)) and these are the people who are forgotten when we talk about welfare and medical handouts...for every "able bodied" person mooching off the system, I can find equal numbers or even more who suffer from various mental problems...

While I don't believe in cradle to grave handouts, I see no societal problem with helping our less fortunate..many many of whom just need a little help once in awhile, especially if they are faced with mental problems which have a lot to do with things like the ability to hold a job or even a conversation.

Having spent a lot of time helping out in homeless shelters, I've come across people who've lost their homes and have problems getting back on their feet (hard to get a job without a phone and an address).

It's easy to say "well, they made a choice, now live with it" but should someone lose thier whole life over a mistake? Once beyond that point, they might just need a simple handup and are more than happy to work for it.

Isn't it ironic than Ronald Reagen cut spending on mental health programs and now suffers from alzheimers?

as for my nurturing, my mother isn't very politcal at all but is pretty mucha liberal, help your fello man type of person and my father went into Vietnam a red, white and blue conservative loe it or leave it type guy and came out a very changed man and very liberal but the last decade or so hasn't really voted along any party line...
I fail to see what gives you the right to project your moral compass of "helping those less fortunate" on to other people (taxpayers). Therein lies the double standard of the liberal (just like the idiotic double standard of the conservative).

Logically, how do you disregard the moral standards of the conservative right while embracing those of the liberal left? You don't want the conservative right reaching into your life and telling you how you can access porn, who you can sleep with, what a woman can do with her body, etc....YET...you have no problem reaching into those conservative pockets to gather funds to "help the less fortunate"...even though they may disagree with YOU...

The theory that YOU (liberal YOU) know what's right for society and that your OPINION that someone shouldn't lose everything over a "mistake" or "choice" they have made, and that taxpayers who may not share this same view should shut up and pay anyway, is in complete contradiction to the ire expressed at the conservative right.

When you don't see anything wrong with one group of society FORCING their ideals on you ("I see no societal problem with helping our less fortunate" - Sykk), yet you moan and complain incessantly at the unfairness of the OTHER side trying to force THEIR morality on you, you walk the slippery slopes of a contradiction you can't escape from.

powerful yes, convey intelligence? Not very likely. While i agree words like 'Fuck' are versatile and can eloquently convey a whole host of subtleties, they are most certainly out of place during an intelligent debate of facts. As appropriate as bopping someone on the nose because you cant think of a workable argument to their statement

Ultimately, intelligence is conveyed by the idea set forth, not the manner in which it is delivered. I don't see a Pulitzer in Serge's future, yet he knows how to cut to the quick of most matters.

Telling someone the "words" they used in a debate makes their argument weaker, as opposed to attacking the ideas themselves, puts you in a deep hole. Stick to the substance of the issue and not the delivery mechanism, and your ability to stay in the debate will grow.

What annoys me most about you Alex, is your constant confusing of your own perceptions with absolute facts.

"I believe what i believe because i happen to be right... not because i happen to be biased towards the left"

You are VERY Liberal... you percieve the world, politics and economic and social issues as a Liberal. Then you can't admit that your views are opinion, not fact and that your "opinion" is only shared by 50% or so of the population... which leaves you with the need to constantly attack the other 50% while claiming to be objective but coincidentally right all the time.

Its fine you know to say "I typically side with Liberal issues". You dont need to make up alleged facts to justify it. You dont need to twist reality to rationalize it. Your not alone you know. There is another 50% of 260,000,000 people in the US who share your views. It's ok to be you.

Most intelligent post in this thread.
