Gonzo, the FCC has been easy on some of these renegade repeaters, but they are cracking down. There are a couple in Southern California that are still pretty wild. What is strange is that the FCC gets more upset if you don't identify and give your callsign every ten minutes than they do if you threaten people and use four-letter words. The FCC also gets very upset if you play music or jam out emergency traffic.

The FCC doesn't have the resources to cover every frequency. When KM sends you the book, why not ask for his ham radio equipment since he now lives out of state and won't need it any longer.

You have been a very good friend to him. You can use the radio to talk to all of your webmaster friends in Florida.

spaz, we're not talking about CB radio. Amateur radio requires a license. CB idiots are all over the place yelling and screaming from their trucks.

Amateur ham radio operators were very helpful during the current fires when power went down for thousands of individuals. It is a great hobby. Just because there are a few crazy people who rant & rave doesn't mean all the hams are crazy. I am aware of many times when lives were saved because a ham contacted emergency services to rescue people.

Sure, cell phones do the same thing. But too many times, cell phones go dead, circuits are busy, or you are in a bldg or area where you have no reception. Ham radios are a great backup, and are a lot of fun.

It became too stressful so I gave Mitnick a guy like Gonzo, who fell all over Mitnick and called him, "big guy!" Jack Biello was also writing a book about Mitnick, but he died a couple of years ago. If Mitnick didn't have a co-writer, the book would have never been published. Mitnick said on ham radio frequency, 147.435, that he lied to Jon Littman, who wrote a book about Mitnick.
