Default Is it time for DRM?

DRM seems to be hated on every surfer board. But by who? Mostly those guys who want to rip our sites and post them as freebies everywhere and we lose...bigtime. So, the legit guy gets a bit of inconvenience, but we get more security. Personally, I feel we lose more money by theft than we ever would DRM'ing our videos. Any thoughts or plans on this?

Fuck DRM thats just a moneymaking scheme for microsoft or whoever....

Use encrypted streams instead...it's very difficult to rip..way moreso than defeating drm

and if someone would finally come up with a player that puts the users username and IP addy on a watermark on the screen...you could really cut down on piracy.

This industries biggest and greatest enemy is itself.
Surfers dont just steal and download content...

Nope the webmasters do as well and repost it else where.
People in this industry to fucking broke to buy or make content these days. It's easier to just steal it.

Gee Mike, something simple, direct, and without a bloated payout scheme?
Surely, you jest sir.

If you are going to start using DRM, I recommend http://www.pay2play.net/

It is run by Ifriends. If you have a performer or studio account, you keep 100% of the money from your sales. If you aren't, you only pay a 5% per sale fee. It's the best DRM solution for content producers I have found on the web. Yes I have been using it for years and have cashed the checks from it.

They also have an affiliate program you can use to help sell your clips. It's all explained at the site. But I'm happy to answer any questions here.

I haven't seen a DRM program that wasn't cracked in the first week. It really is a waste of time and a futile attempt at protecting your content. I know people say that's it's only a few that can crack them, but it's those "few" that spread them everywhere. I removed all DRM from our videos long ago and found that sharing actually went down. These "crackers" take anything with DRM as a challenge and circulate them more than ones without DRM.

with flash recorders its not hard to take it at all. What would stop piracy would be our industry not so quick to embrace them but its too late now. People trade music but you dont see sony running ads there. fuck avn gave AFF an award and they pretty much funded the tubes with massive ad buys.

And what, pray tell, works well with flash?
Here's my problem:

I have a video vending machine, that has three screens.
See here:

EJ's Video Vending machine

It uses two mpg movies for advertising....one that uses audio (movies) and the second for various ads and such. (The third is the "bi'dness" screen.)

So, every week, I'll be rebuilding an MPG file. It would be simpler if I could rip the flash video from the movies sites, and paste them together, quick and dirty. Of course, I have premiere, so the "making" is all good. I guess I could rip them from the front of the DVDs as well. I haven't tried for a while. Wonder if they are using copy protection on the previews?

suggestions?
