Kimbo was to fight Ken Shamrock. Ken gets a cut and cancels, Kimbo offered alternative of fighting Seth Petruzelli from the undercard and took it. Never a good choice to take a pro fight against someone you know nothing about.

He found out...caught coming in, goes down and punched hard from behind and ref stopped it for a TKO because he couldn't defend himself.

Game over.

That likely ends the debate on whether a tough street fighter can jump into MMA against professionals and succeed. Kimbo probably has another fight in him, perhaps the intended Shamrock fight. He has to win that convincingly then take out Seth in a rematch. Else he's done.

Ken's not a young man anymore, and nowhere near his prime. But he has the skills and the instincts in the ring where Kimbo would have had his ass handed to him. Kimbo is really only there for the buzz. He doesn't have the skills to really fight in MMA. A TKO 14 seconds into the first round kind of shows that.

Can we say glass jaw? Petruzelli had one foot in the air and wasn't stepping in. The punch was all with the arm, no legs or body weight behind it.

Looking at it again, I think kimbo fell down more than he was knocked down initially, bad balance. Notice he caught on all fours and immediately went to stand back up. But he was getting pounded by shots on top of the head and around or behind the ear. Those got him.

He didn't have the skills to get out of that flurry and likely looked glazed when he rolled over and had no form going to protect himself, so the referree stopped it.

MIGHT be just a tad quick on the stoppage, but if so it evens out that last fight where the ref should've stopped it multiple times when he was pinned against the fence and didn't.

With Shamrock's skillset, I'd take him over Kimbo even if Ken were 60.

Kimbo has been exposed twice in a row. If you can avoid one of those initial flurries of haymakers, and have any real MMA experience to go to, Kimbo is very beatable. He was gassed by the second round in the previous fight. This time, he went down while coming in for that initial attack and got pummeled from behind and had NO clue what to do about it other than eat a TKO.

Shamrock would put him on the ground and take the first limb he extends to hit him with and try to tear it clean off his body.

Kimbo hits hard, there's no doubting that, but he may be too old and too set in his ways to really put in the time to get good on the mat and learn some defense. It's gotta be second nature.

Not a big shocker. Kimbo doesn't have the skillset most of those guys do.

Oh, and the Tyson quote is wrong. A person with better skills, patience and planning for a fight will win most of the time. They have a better ability to assess and see a persons skill strengths and weaknesses quickly and exploit them. Especially against a peron like Tyson. People like Tyson rely on quick overwhelming force and when you deny them that avenue with skill they either get frustrated and start making mistakes, tire out and start making mistakes or both. I'll take a fighter with patience and perserverence over a bombing brawler any day of the week and twice on sunday. Tyson was more of a brawler than a boxer and against lesser skilled boxers or those that were only marginally better boxers he was able to overwhelm them. But people who were smart about their strategy, had much better boxing skill, knew their and their opponents strengths and weaknesses well.... he bit their ears off for example. LOL

Tell that to Michael Sphinx...

Once upon a time, Tyson had all of that power, plus speed AND he could box. Then Gus Dematto died, and he got involved with Don King.

Mike was not equipped to deal with the level of celebrity and temptations that came his way. He got lazy and relied upon those big bombs.

Then he goes to Japan for a quick pay day against some unknown named Buster Douglas. Little training, up all night curing his yellow fever and allegedly even had a case of the clap going into the fight. Buster knocked him out, and he never really got back up.

When you're hurt, down and disoriented in life, you return to what you know and the values that were instilled into at a very young age as you hit bottom. For Tyson, this meant he turned into a dumbass street thug again.

I consider Tyson to be one of the greatest wastes of potential I've ever seen in my lifetime. He would've been the best of all time, but he had a 10 cent head.

Long answer, but I think we sorta agree here in that I also think all of the power in the world does not make up for a lack of smarts and heart.
