Default USA Today Ad - Rethink Hardcore Porn

NEW YORK – A group of more than a dozen conservative organizations headed by Citizens for Community Values (CCV) have ratcheted up their efforts to put an end to the availability of porn in nationwide hotels by placing a full-page ad in USA Today encouraging readers to “rethink hardcore porn.”

The ad, which is black and white, cost between $100,000-130,000 and was financed by CCV, the Family Research Council, Morality in Media, the Center for Reclaiming America, the American Family Association and Concerned Women for America, to name just a few.

Featuring a remote control, a sample menu of in-room adult entertainment offerings and a pair of handcuffed hands, the ad calls on the Justice Department to more aggressively root out “obscene” content available on pay-per-view in hotels such as Sheraton, Hilton, Holiday Inn, Ritz-Carlton, Hyatt, Marriott and Ramada.

“Adult hardcore pornography can tragically lead to sex crimes against women and children,” the ad reads. “Yet sex videos are available in millions of U.S.-based hotel rooms, which we strongly believe are prosecutable. We call on the Department of Justice to immediately investigate the companies that produce, sell and distribute hardcore porn.”

The ad does not directly mention the names of the hotels that feature porn and instead targets the two biggest providers of adult entertainment to hotel chains, LodgeNet and OnCommand, a subsidiary of Liberty Media Corp.
The website for CCV even goes so far as to call CEOs John Malone of Liberty Media and Scott Petersen of LodgeNet “white collar pornographers.”
Previous efforts to stomp out in-room porn by CCV leader Phil Burress was directed at 15 Ohio and Kentucky hotels that offered their customers in-room porn.

Burress calls adult entertainment in hotels “dangerous” and claims to have been in talks with Justice over the issue of investigating porn in hotel rooms.
“This is not mere nudity,” Burress said. “We’re talking about every conceivable form of degrading, distorted sex. We’re talking about the types of material, which are addictive in nature, which men are lured into viewing in the privacy of their hotel rooms, and which have been responsible for sexual crimes and for the breakdown of countless marriages, families and careers. And we’re talking about a company and its leader who care more about the dollar than about those men, women, children and families.”

According to statistics provided in the ad, adult entertainment is available in 40 percent of hotels in the U.S., which equals out to 1.5 million hotel rooms. In-room porn nets distributors hundreds of millions of dollars per year.
In response to the ads, several hotel chains responded by defending their choice to supply porn to hotel guests simply because it can be easily blocked by guests who are not interested in viewing it.

The conservative groups also are trying to spur traffic to website CleanHotels.com, which provides a listing of hotels that have banned porn.

So why doesn't someone in the adult entertainment industry start an ad campaign against fanatical religious zealots that think they have the right to tell other people how to live their lives?

This is the reason that the vocal minority can have so much influence, because they are vocal. The rest of us just sit around and bitch about it but do nothing and are only vocal in private.

Ah yes. Hypocrisy at it's finest. Stand around and talk about how horrible porn is after church and then run home and jerk off to a video of some chick dressed like a nun and taking it up the ass.

So.... I'd love to ask those folks what was responsible for all the rapes, family violence, and child sexual abuse BEFORE television??? Because I'm quite sure that throughout history, even during the times when religion was the greatest ruler of the people, rapes, family violence, and child sexual abuse occurred with great frequency!

Gotta love it...agenda driven/financially driven, fanatical BS!

“Adult hardcore pornography can tragically lead to sex crimes against women and children,”....this is the same ignorant thinking that leads to conclusions such as video games are responsible for killings, drinking equals alcoholism, guns kill, speed kills, etc etc.....

Never do these groups point the finger at the individual for taking responsibility for their own actions. They simply find a "cause"...something to "hate", use the church as a crutch, wrap it in a nice majority friendly package that the media can ship to everyone's doorstep and monitor, rinse and repeat....damn, done with rant for now!!!

The FCC has made noise about wanting to regulate the indecent content on cable. What's next? The Internet? Remember...once government censorship begins, it never ends as long as someone else gets to decide what is "indecent."

here is what I find funny

once again they think protecting our children is in the hands of the government, when in fact it is PURELY up to the parent

Anyone that has stayed in a hotel knows how easy it is to get those channels blocked...two words to the hotel staff and no one can access any adult stations...PARENTAL BLOCK

but no, instead of informing people of that, they go after sex..."OOOOO NOOOOOOO, NOT SEX.....SEX IS EVIL!!!! (except when I am doing it)"

fact remains, the people bitching the most publicly about sex and porn, are the freakiest fuckers in the bedroom

porn should put ads in paper going against these lies, these people gather political momentum because they make noise. They know how to organize. The whole Janet Jackson thing it was 90 letters to the fcc and they were done by like 15 wackos
