a few posts in here reminded me of a dinner my wife and I had with two friends at Tru in Chicago. A miserable experience due to the awful service, poor food, and over the top pretentious attitudes of the wait staff.

we were exposed to a variety of dialects from the various staff that presented each of the courses. i of course had to ask my darling,patient, courteous wife what exactly was being described each time the staff left, much to her disgust. one guy, in particular, i had tuned out completely because i couldn't understand one word he uttered- he was from france. i was completely absorbed in a martinelli jackass at the time as the meal was average at best.

well, on my wife's 5th or 6th course, he presented her with what i heard very clearly as "paenis" (i know the spelling has to be incorrect, it was baby duck puree or some delicacy somewhere). i immediately whipped my attention to the dish being presented to see what i heard from the french waiter as penis. i then threw up a few ounces of the jackass in my mouth as i saw a fried cylindrical dish and ask the waiter to repeat the pronunciation, knowing i heard this incorrectly. same pronunciation. at this point my wife is pissed, my guests and i are trying to hold back from all out laughter in the main dining room at Tru. of course my wife was embarassed by our behavior and in her eloquent politically correct style, described to us the composition of this fried cylinder on her plate. no way we were eating this but she tasted a portion ever so elegantly as we stared in anticipation. suddenly, she regurgitates the portion softly onto her fork and sheepishly retreats the portion to her plate while simultaneously reaching for her water glass. we where in complete bewilderment as to her action and how bad that must have tasted given her reaction.

we begged her to tell us what it tasted like and she said the only thing she could compare it to was a "fried blowjob". we were now rolling in the dining room at Tru and could care less.
