Drug company lobbyists going too far

According to an October Los Angeles Times report, the trade association Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America contracted to pay two writers a "six-figure" fee to write a novel about a national panic resulting from a fear that drug lobbyists had actually been trying to spread in Congress, specifically, that terrorists might poison lower-priced drug imports from Canada. (The Times reported that the association recently killed the project and blamed the whole idea on an unsupervised lower-level executive.) [Los Angeles Times]

I find it amazing what they will go through to keep Americans paying their high prices. I'd like someone to spread the rumor through congress that the Canadian imported drugs are made by American pharmaceutical companies.
Oh wait...they won't spread that, it's true.

Sadly, I'm not at all amazed.

As the old tale goes, if the drug companies ever found that something simple, let's say baking soda, cured cancer (hell, baking soda does everything else), they would either withhold the information for decades or figure out a way to charge a grand a month for it.

That is the reason I am convinced that the majority of the products sold as "natural" or "herbal" remedies are of nominal value at best. If they were as good as the promotional material said they would, the drug companies would have them patented and be selling them for 30X the price.
