I actually explained that way earlier in this thread. (Totally understandable that you might have missed it, it's a long thread.)

I wanted a dog desperately, but the welfare of the cats come first. The horror I have over losing Sophia will never go away, and I'd never take the risk of either a deliberate or accidental act by a larger dog. Dingo adores cats, but even if she got angry or played too rough, the cats could kick the stuffings out of her, so they're safe.
