Sorry, but I find this disturbing.

Maybe that's what the picture taker wanted. It's still wrong imho!

She doesn't look like she was raised very well either, that's a distressed look on her face as well.

Roman, Greek children wouldn't have this kind of reaction and neither would their parents

They also raped and killed the young without penalty in most cases, not a good example.

I'm afraid if I'd gone in expecting to see "paintings" and ran into this, there would have been hell to pay.

Nice sculpture, Serge. I'm afraid not a lot of Americans even know what a Satyr is anymore.

I was just commenting to my husband and sister that we should get something like that sculpture for the front lawn. Appearently I am alone in thinking this.

In all seriousness...

the kids are obviously shocked. In order to be shocked they need to have some knowledge of the content.

Why is their knowledge limited?
And why is what knowledge they have leading them to feel shocked.

Hell, my knowledge is limited too. I'm not even sure what it is. The tonguing part I can figure out, but is that something protruding from an ass?

Might have been a good idea.

In all seriousness, I have never been to an art museum. I live in Nowhereville. But I would hope that exhibits like that aren't in the general section.

Yes, they are....but, it's a very small Museum in Madrid called Prado and the painter is only known to a few geeks,
his name is Goya.

Here is another paiting in that museum,
http://www.spanisharts.com/prado/rubens/gracias.htm
from barely known artist Rubens

Selena, stay away from museums and especialy shield children from them.

Actually, I see a big difference in the work of the "little known" Rubens and a painting showing a sexual act being in a general area of a museum. That's me.

Oh, and even in Nowheresville we've heard of Goya. They reproduce his works on the side of their 4 x 4's that they go muddin' in.

exactly,
I always told my children that no sexual act was involved in their birth. I also told them that their mother was a virgin and this is what I expected from them forever.

If that were thrue, then that would have been your choice, wouldn't it? I'm all about parents having choices. Which is why I didn't think the original pic posted here made the woman (who we assume to be the mother) look bad. If the scenario is that they unwittingly came across the painting of a tongued pussy in a general museum, then the choice was removed for her.

If she chose to take them to an exhibit of sexually explict art, then perhaps the children were expressing awe at the size of the dildo or whatever it is crammed up the ass.

I am pro-choice big time and I beleive it's parents choice to keep their children ignorant and the Smallville Board of Education pronounce Romeo and Juliet as pornography.

just FYI, there's no "general" and "adult" section in a Museum.... it's not a Blockbuster...

That first painting is crap, not because it's shocking, but simply because it's not very good (personal opinion). Compare it to the others Serge posted, and there's a world of difference...

OK...first of all, several things need to be assumed:
One...I'm taking children of that age.
Two...I've checked out the museum ahead of time, received a catalogue, and in general satisfied myself that the paintings are such that we can stand in front of them and either appreciate the art or begin a dialogue.
Note: I did not censor my children's exposure to the world. My kids (and hence every one of their friends) all got honest answers to honest questions.) The middle school art department was given a budget that covered pencils. The teacher spent all summer cutting paintings out of magazines and buying postcards so she'd have something to teach with. On my kid's birthdays, I continued a tradition started in elementary school, which is on their birthday, they gave a book to the library. My youngest gave her art teacher a massive art book - the only damned one the teacher had. We went through it, nudes and all.
Three...what does "hell to pay" mean? With me, yelling. I'm not the censorship type. I take responsibility for what I do. *I* brought my kids there. I doubt any of us would have collapsed in shock in front of that painting. We would have discussed it, how art is subjective, and how acts that might be perfectly natural and quite fun look pretty stupid when they're frozen in time like that. I wouldn't sue; I wouldn't picket; I'd probably just use a lot of rough talk at the curator while my children muttered "oh, for heaven's sake, Mom!"

Now, if I was taking these same children when they were older...I'd be the one standing off to the side muttering "I do NOT know these people" as they critiqued the painting and made better suggestions in voices that rang off the museum walls.

Now, for the record:
how many times have you been to the art museums?
Where? How often each? Have you ever actualy DONE what you are preaching?
I don't "go places," Serge, for some very good reasons, so we'll pretend you didn't ask me that.

And as for the rest...yes, I have. I've had every possible discussion about sex that it's possible to have with every age of child. Art, television, movies...and most of all, real life.

I don't know exactly what the hell you're trying to get started here, Serge, but you might want to remeber I learned to piss from YOU before you start anything.

Have a nice day.

They are valid questions....

Which art galleries have you gone to?
When and where?

You two gentlemen seem to be laboring under the mistaken impression that my personal life is an open book for anyone to take potshots at. *I* choose what I will and will not discuss on this board.

In the meantine, I cheerfully suggest the two of you go fuck each other.

so in other words , having asked your credentials , you are unable to site any art galleries that you've ACTUALLY been to?

I fail to see that saying "in the late 80s I went to the Guggenheim " is in anyway prying over your personal life.

Certainly less prying than some of the above info in the posts you volenteered...LOL

;-)))

Nick,
we got her.
For the record:
Morgan has made a statement she can't substantiate whatsoever.

...and it wasn't the use of "fuck" what gave it away

Indeed....
