I'm honest and posted what I do for a living in my profile... I swear 20 minutes later I got this letter...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just wanted to let you know that for some odd reason, your profile was sent to me in the weekly bunch. I live in California, so I'm not sure why. Maybe fate?
Anyway, my profile is hidden right now while I make some changes, so you won't be able to see who I am. I'm 43 years old and have three children. I am not in any way a religious zealot or any other type of wingnut. Just a mother and positive female role model for my teenage sons and their friends.
However, I did want to respond to your profile. I am impressed that you were open and willing to share what you do for a living. I am also an entrepreneur, but started as a nurse practitioner and then I started a preschool and infant center that's licensed for 100 kids. I make quite a lot of money doing it and only work about 6 hours per week. Kind of like you, but quite a different type of work.
I want to share with you the impact of what happened with my oldest teenage son and the adult websites that he began frequenting with his best friends. Although you say it's just a job, it's actually quite more than that. For young eyes, the images are damaging, and can change their image of women forever. My son and his friends were able to access adult sites at a friend's house despite his mother telling me that she had secured the computer to that type of search. Pornography is pornograpy. My son still remembers the vivid images and is ashamed of himself. He wishes that he had never viewed the stuff and is concerned that he may treat his girlfriend differently due to the stuff he saw. Even if your website is "tame" it has a negative impact on children and adults alike. Although you think of it as a job, it has profoundly affected my son, and I'm sure millions of other young men who are quite impressionable. I wish you luck, but don't fool yourself into thinking what you are doing is okay. It's really not, and I think that most women you meet will feel the same. Best wishes, Alice

Thanks you for the letter.
All of the sites we create are registered with Cyber Patrol, Surf Watch, SafeSurfNet and Nanny. Using anyone of these programs renders our sites and any other regeistered site unreachable by the computer.
Our hardcore images are behind warning pages that you have to click past to get to , nothing is ever just tossed up on the screen, you always know exactly what you asking to see.
The sad thing it the truth, Parents need to watch out for thier childern, not everyone else. As a company, we are doing our part, registering with companys that provide a measure of protection, ibut it's still up to the parents to monitor and use the tools availiable.
Here is an interesting quote from Judge Lancaster in the current Extreme Associates case that just tossed out of court
"As a general rule, the Supreme Court has not allowed the fact that a determined minor might access inappropriate materials to justify a complete ban on their distribution, thus reducing the adult population to only what is fit for children," the judge wrote. "Rather, along with such appropriate restrictions imposed by the government, such as age requirements, parents are expected to control their children's access to inappropriate items, such as alcohol, tobacco, firearms, and sexually explicit movies. As the Supreme Court recognized in Ashcroft v. American Civil Liberties Union, a total ban on the distribution of materials cannot be justified on the assumption that parental supervision of their minor children's activities is an ineffective means of protecting minors from viewing inappropriate material."
People are always quick to point blam at something when faced with thier own shortcomings, could be the problem here was the parents of your childs friends not supervising them?
So, yes I look at it as only a job, one that is build by adults for adults using consenting adults.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I in no way intended to say that your type of site should be banned, no matter how degrading I think it can become. I am a firm believer in free speech. And, yes, the friend's parents should have been watching the boys, but you can't be with them every minute.
I appreciate your thoughtful reply, but just wanted to give you a little "food for thought." I'm sure you've gotten a lot of crap over the years for your line of work, and I'm not trying to give you a hard time. Just thought I'd put in my "2 cents."
Take care,
Alice
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Then right after
ust another thought. You say that parents need to watch out for their kids, not everyone else. However, as a believer in community and not the idea that "everyone fend for themselves," it is up to each and every one of us to further the good and decent qualities of mankind.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Probably the same type that pickets schools that teach sexual education in junior high, unawares that their little prince or princess is attending afterschool BJ parties.
Parents, if you are unqualified to monitor your childrens activites to the point that they are SCARRED. then either you are imposing a negative image instead of explaining what they saw, or you are letting far too much hit their eyes, and if you are going to panic and rely on v-chips, netnannies, and schools to raise your kids.. next time, use a condom.

I get mixed responses from men that I meet/date when I tell them what I do. Tho I'm sure it's different for girls...
I find it an interesting way to weed out the dickheads tho. If they can't 'get over' what I do and treat it as a job like any other (with just more naked people involved than your average job)...then I get over them really really fast.

All in all I gotta say she was quite a fair minded woman. I don't have a problem with what she wrote you at all as she wasn't demanding, insulting, or rude in any way. I wish more people who disagreed with the adult business were like her. Maybe then some common ground could be wrought where both sides could feel somewhat satisfied by the response of the other to a problem both agree about as webmasters and parents don't want kids on their sites.
Where are the pictures with the protesters from NO with the PONOGRAPHY signs?

I must say I agree with TE on this one Eddie...
AND
I think you should give her a pearl necklace.
Did I really just say that? So unlike me to say such a thing...

Totally agree, which is why I took the time to give her the reponse that I did.
