Lisa and I were discussing this the other night at dinner ... she is about to celebrate 4 years with PMB ... which means we have been friends for almost 6!!! Lots of boards in that time
actually, before condom was a newbie resource, wasn't it basically a topsite with a chatboars?
I seem to remember a time when it had a German version (or a German section...I think Maverick ran that part) and an English version...or am I thinking of something else?
Do you want to know who the top posters on the flat board were ? Huh? do ya ? huh ? and like maybe, um...lessee, yeah, like their average posts per day ? and like when their first post and last post were ? Huh ?
And like, you could get it in excel or in csv or in sdf or dbf or even (god help me) mdb format and like I could make it ftp up to your server and format as an html doc to match your site scheme and then it could like spider out and see where those posters are today and whether their alive or dead and how many kids they have and then it could raid their private accounts and gather all their ss numbers and cc numbers and then report back automatically and sit and wait for you to deliver the command to erase their computers and cause a gas leak to blow up their houses or something like that ? That would be cool wouldn't it ?????

Condom... which became Netpond. then there was a management change that saw a bit of an exodus of the old timers and more of a newbie concentration.
YnotTopPond... which became Oprano flatboard which became the Oprano we're at today.
I spot check for interesting looking subject lines when I have spare time on a couple of others. But the boards above are the only ones i've tried to make it a point to read daily.
Flash backs... Ynot, Condom, Netpond... then I took a break.. I come back and all the flat boards are gone.... it took me 6 months to get use to threaded boards. I have passing memories of old Oprano and YnotTopPond but its probably just me looking over someone elses shoulder as they posted.
Only one blemish on my record, but I still have the scar. <_<
I actually have to thank Serge/Suze for talking me into posting here at the first show I attended post-ANS. I'd been warned never to stray to the Oprano dark side by YKW... but once I got in here, started reading people and finally posted - I saw the light. It's been home base ever since.
Mailing was never a problem for me. we'd get a complaint, and 404 the site. and we had such a relationship with our data center that they didn't really care. There was not strict affiliate spam anything back then, certainly not on the federal level (of which it still doesn't make sense to me)

Mind you in our case we knew the mail was coming into the site before we got the first complaint ;-))))))
In fact sometimes we'd write ourselves to complain ;-)))
It was shocking how many bulk mailers picked on my freehosts...shocking ;-))))))
