The last night of the show, the town was freaking packed with CES people. Most of the normal FFN haunts were full up. So we had to pull a few strings and resort to the old standby "Amex Fine Dining Program" for reservations.
We managed to get late dinner reservations at Charlie Palmer's Steakhouse in the Four Seasons at Mandalay. Gets great reviews, it's convenient, and it's in the Four Seasons so we figure we cant go wrong. Turns out to be one of the worst meals I've had this year. The service was not even in the ballpark of what I expect for a supposed world class steakhouse. We sat nearly 15 minutes without menus....we should've left then. Drinks sat empty for a long time, the waiter couldn't remember what we were drinking when he did finally ask. And they just weren't "on the spot" for anything. Ok, so it's CES, maybe they've been stiffed by geeks all night and service is just "off". Nope, the food sucked too. I would be amazed to know how they managed to prepare such an excellent cut of aged beef in such a manner as to totally remove all flavor. It was absolutely bland. I swear I was tempted to ask for a bottle of A1. We did get free dessert after the manager made the mistake of stopping by the table and asking how things were at one point where we were all sitting back looking bored waiting on Haley's Waiters to make one of their every 72 year passes. We told him. We received free desserts. I for one took a couple of bites and left that too....it also sucked. I've eaten in many of the best steakhouses in this country, and I know how it's supposed to be. That wasn't it. Just wondering if our experience there was an anomoly because I was pretty shocked. |

Personally, in a town full of excellent steakhouses, I think Charlie Palmers is overrated. I've eaten there twice and wasn't overly impressed...
one of my favorites is the standby Ruth's Chris Steakhouse and The Palms in Caesar's Forum Shops (not sure if it's still there though, haven't been there in ages)

You got the chef pedigree.... let me ask you a question. How do you prepare a filet "European style"? Do you boil it to cook all the flavour out?

Sorry about your bad dining experience... but the line, "I've eaten in many of the best steakhouses in this country, and I know how it's supposed to be", has left me unable to stop thinking about hitting a steakhouse for lunch! Where's NickDark and Baldie... ! have a hankering for some Ribs n' Rumps ![]() How's this sound for for a FFN style place too! ;-) Take up The Challenge - eat two R&R's Professional steaks unassisted in one sitting & get the 3rd free. If you are able to finish all three, you have earned the right to a brick in R&R’s Wall of Fame plus you become a member of our elite R&R’s Professional Club. This entitles you to a free bottle of wine with every R&R Professional steak ordered for the next year. Beat the Challenge twice in a year and you receive a R&R’s Gold Card Membership. Then with every R&R’s Professional ordered you not only receive your free wine but your partners meal is complimentary during your membership year. I'd love to do a Steak House meal with Gonzo and HP one day i think!
