My New Favorite Movie

I'm not joking, this is my new favorite movie. It's definitely the most powerful movie I have ever seen, a title heretofor held by Saving Private Ryan (closely followed by Braveheart), in terms of invading my psyche. It's the first movie that I shed a tear in since I was 4 years old and watched Bambi (when Bambi's mother gets blasted).

The part that really punched me in the chest was when Jesus falls carrying the cross for the second time, and his mother runs to him and they do the flashback.

And as for the claims of anti-semitism, I just didn't feel it. The Jewish leaders who demanded Jesus' death were displayed as self-serving, as was Pilate, and the mob of Jews who fell in line with their leaders were offset by groups of Jews begging for the beating to end. It seemed very fair to me.

Be you religious or not, I think you'll get something positive out of this movie. At the very least, this movie will cause you to think about who you are and whether or not you're being the person you ought to be. I know most of you are above reproach, but I definitely came away feeling somewhat inadequate -- I don't know if I have what it takes to suffer through a beating like that for my convictions.

That's my take. If you've seen it, please share your thoughts.

how does it end?
when will they shoot the sequel?

I am writing the script, together with Luke Ford,
"Saving Private Christ", and expect it to be the hit...anybody looking for $30 mils to invest?

It doesn't end. It stays with you after you leave the theatre.

During that scene, I thought about how strong a woman would have to be to watch that happen to her son and be powerless to stop it. I wondered how my mother would react, and how destroyed she'd feel and it made me gasp for air.

no wonder people die watching this movie...have your brain not nurished with enough oxygen would do it.

I wouldn't suggest watching this movie in South America...the movie theater full of people with upset stomachs would result in HIGHER rates of suffocation than in USA.

BUFF,
When you have a 13 year old daughter as i do and you see how they are inundated with porn every time the log on to the internet you may think twice about a lot of things you do....

Children have a way of making you feel powerful and helpless at the same time.

These are the things i have thought a lot about the last year out of the biz....

(hope the hipocrisy of this post does not cause a shitstorm.)

That's another thing the movie shoved into the spotlight: the political nature of organized religion. The Vatican could take a good look in the mirror after this movie and ask itself whether it in any way resembles what Jesus had in mind for those who wished to follow in his footsteps.
obviously NOT....when Christians claim that they do NOT drink wine because they are Christians,
my heart bleeds about Jesus who turned water into wine!

I am more Christian then them,
every time Forest brings new good wine,
I say:
Holy Jesus!

Being inundated with porn...that is not the real problem.

School violence is pervasive. Student on Student /Student on Teacher.

Johnnie or Janey can hardly spell.

Being involved in your childrens lives is what counts. How many times do you hear people say where are the parents?

Why is there a "real problem"? Everyone always thinks there's a problem.
Some of the oldest writings we have are people complaining about the world.

This is the way the world is. Deal with it.

I liked your first review better.

Haven't seen it. May watch it when it comes out on cable.

Don't really consider myself a Christian any more, but back when I was, the agony of the crucifixion was (IMHO) significant to the story of Christ, but not the central message. While the Roman Catholic Church feels the need to keep him on the cross (amidst the other idols they display), the true miracle of Christ is the resurrection.

It's funny to me about how when the movie first came out, the "anti-semite" clamor was so loud, and now that regular folk have gone and watched it, that accusation has been blown away by their opinions of the movie.

I haven't seen it yet, btw. I'll wait for it to come out on DVD. Hardly any movie is worth seeing in the theatres when it costs you over $35 before you get to your seat.

Don't see the big deal about rushing out to see this movie

After all you know how it ends

What do you think about free spaghetti dinners with the movie? Paired with a nice Chianti?

What strikes me as funny is many accepting this movie as gospel (pun intended)

Your Christ and Your God and all your Gods are superstition and only have the power you invest in them by your faith

Step back for a second and consider how bizarre this sounds,
some great invisible being sends a man to earth who is born of a virgin mother ......
and one of his purposes is to be slaughtered and die horribly for your sins???

and read I said one of his purposes

Being a Catholic and being raised by a staunch Catholic mother I feel no need to watch anything like this film!

I took enough religion to last me a lifetime before I rebelled at 14... I've got my faith but I practice my religion my way!

Anyway 90% of the old and new testament is bullshit if you ask me!

Many are going to do this as well.

Interesting side note, many folks who loved the movie said they will NEVER see it a second time.

and.....

Will not be buying the film when it is released on DVD.

How strange is that.

So buff -

you seem a bit transformed by this movie. Perhaps an enlightening..or at least positive reflection on your life and how you look at it.

How long is it going to to you, (and the others that were touched by this movie) to slip back into your old habits.

And if you ARE religious and practicing your beliefs, why is it that you need a movie to remind you of such.

Sounds to me like instead of following ANYTHING, you need to be leading yourself every day.

You are the only person that can push yourself....

Half of America is peace-mongering, left-wing hippies. Funny thing is it's the other 1/2 which like him so much.

haven't you asked this before on GFY?

he died like he should have and like other liberal's should...slowly and painfully. the shitty part of the movie is that it made it clear he only suffered for 12 hours...there could have been days/months he could have suffered...the romans forgot the tease aspect of sales.

best of luck -
