I've always loved spam, makes money.. however I don't like the fact that stupid people with small list know how to do it.
To the person sending me porn ads with the word 'Gushing' in the subject - your send me like 10 a day. For god sakes get a new list! And does the word 'Gushing' actually light anyone's fire?
To the person sending me attachments to a cable box - Your sending me about 20 emails a day. Get a clue remove webmaster@'s from your list you idiot.
I'm building a filter fortress... This mornings email had about 10% appearing to be real mail... the rest went to the delete folder. Of the 10% that appeared to be real about half wasn't and that I copied to the 'to-be-filted' folder.
If your sending bulk mail please choose several different products to promote and change the look of the emails regularly.. especially if your using some little tiny list. Remove addresses like webmaster@ and admin@ from your list! That would probably cut my junk mail by 1/3.
Another tip.. be sure and leave all .gov emails on your list. That is very productive.. your signups will be amazing!

Yeah, tell me about it. I get about 200 a day of that one alone...
Yeah I'll give the cable mailers a little credit.. while their emails always look the same they are formatted in a rather clever way to avoid the filters.
I do feel left out if everyone else is getting 200 per day.

I assume you are kidding about this piece of advice?
Originally posted by VooMan@Jan 22 2004, 11:29 AM I'll give them credit too, they beat all the filters. However, I am still not buying...

Yep.. thats it.. if you take a look at the source they break up the only consistant words "Free CableTV" in a million different ways.. I'm catching a bunch of them.. but not all.

We don't call those people stupid.. we call those people the most valuable customers in the world. Thats the nice thing about spam it tends to attract the most gullible customers.
This thread is about the people who send bulk mail poorly.
I use Eudora to filter email IN instead of OUT. I have a ton of words on my list, but I bet it's still a lost smaller than most people's spam word list. :P
There are obviously a few that get through and a small handful I accidentally delete, but with 2000+ going into the "in box" and everything else where it should be, it's worth it to hit "delete" on everything in the in box once a day.

If you're using Eudora, add Spamnix....works great.
Exactly one of the reasons I use it as I get spammed on a ton of domains. Does the job of hundreds of filters.
You can also manually white or blacklist addresses. You'll wanna watch it for the first few days to teach it who's ok as porn smells spammy to it, and it'll flag some of the people we all do business with on a regular basis as spammers. Imagine that!
Spamnix is terrific... was actually referred to it right here on Oprano...
Still working out some email issues from a re-setup of my DSL after
a move.
But one of the things that I did was remove a "catch all" setup
from my primary domain, since I only use maybe 3 email addresses
per domain. Ended up cutting the spam from recently around
700 per day, to less than 50...
