Just found out this morning that my arm was cleared. All I have left is job counselling which I will be doing on Friday. It's funny, my mom is more excited than I am. I think she just wants me out of the house. :P

my son is considering the same move
BTW, any questions you or your son have, if we can answer them, we will! This process has been going on for exactly a year. Through osmosis, I think we know more about getting into the military that most recruiters.

Oh geeze. And so it begins - hitting on married women.
First of all let me say congratulations, I'm sure you'll make your mom proud!!
Second- I just want you to know that in the fine tradition of military brotherhood that once you actually make it through bootcamp and become a certified member of the Air Force don't think this Marine won't take any and every chance to tell you how much better the Marince Corps is!! :P
Congradulations!! I know you will do a great job!!
I noticed you got accepted into the Air Force AFTER this photo came to light.... Coincidence? I think not!

1) My Dad was in the AF
2) AF has more technical jobs which is what he's interested in
3) Most importantly, the chances of him ever seeing combat in the AF (he's too blind to ever fly) are basically nil, whereas the Army combat chances are much higher and he wants to make sure his mother doesn't worry 24/7.

I am sorry that I will be losing my helping hand, especially during the summer! ;-))
Make your Mom proud!
He may actually still be here during this summer - apparently they are WAY over recruitment levels and it's taking months to ship out. It all depends on what job he gets.
And don't forget, he gets 30 days vacation a year - I'm sure he'd love to spend all of it here working for you.
Congratulations CT, pay no attention to Shok. The "soapdick" was used to aid in the defacating in front of men, when in jail, not bootcamp. So does this mean your mom needs a new "house boy"?

Hey Mike...that was going to be my line.
Congrats John! It was a pleasure spending time with you in Vegas. I will always remember your mom giving out free lapdances on the party bus...that was the best!

AF doesn't have MOS's, they have AFSC's. Friday is when he talks to the "job counselor" to find out. Here's a list of all of them if you have any suggestions.
He's interested in the pararescue but with his eyesight, will never do anything inside a plane. And the intelligence....well, let's just say he might have a hard time getting Top Secret Clearance and leave it at that.
In looking at the list, it's an old one. Most of those he realized weren't what they seemed to be.
I dunno - he scored well enough on his ASVAB to pick what he wants, but hopefully someone there will point him in the right direction. Of course, they'll also try to point him in the direction of what they need to fill. :P

well unless he's planning on being a career "pinger" (as opposed to a career "squid", "grunt", or "jarhead") He may also want to consider what skillpath is gonna get him the kind of job he'd want back in the civilian world!

Oh, trust me, that's all he's thought of. :P The problem is that most of the jobs which USED to translate well into the civilian world (aircraft repair, air traffic controller, fuelers, etc) have about 100 applicants for each position, with things looking worse.
He looked into the medical field since that's where the $$$'s going to be in the next few years, but he's really not THAT interested in it. I told him it was silly to spend 4 years learning how to do something he doesn't like so he can spend the rest of his life doing something he doesn't like.
They pay 100% for his school while he's in, plus the GI bill. I recommended he do whatever job he WANTS to do w/o out putting much worry into what he can on the outside (within reason - Band would be a bad idea, for instance :P ), take some accounting/finance/business classes on the AF's dime while he's enlisted and then use the GI bill to get a degree for work outside the USAF.
