if you are interested in distance learning... you need a license from Acacia.
wonder what millions of students who are trying to get an education will think about this? i would guess that is a much more volitile and dangerous group of people to go after than porn companies. at least porn companies are known for poor organization. university students however, are known for the exact opposite... organizing, rebelling, protesting and taking up "causes" that should be a pretty interesting show. ======================== Acacia Research/DeVry -2: Allegedly Violated Tech Patents WASHINGTON (Dow Jones)--Acacia Research Corp. (ARC.XX) accused DeVry Inc. (DV) of violating several patents, according to DeVry's quarterly financial statement filed Monday with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Acacia Research alleged in a notice sent to DeVry in September that DeVry had infringed upon its patents related to streaming audio and video technology, the SEC filing said. DeVry, a higher-education company based in Oakbrook Terrace, Ill., said that it uses the technology through its online platform provider and that many other companies use the same technology. DeVry didn't say how it would respond to the allegations. As of Sept. 30, the end of the first quarter of fiscal 2004, DeVry had recorded $1 million associated with estimated loss contingencies. That was unchanged from its level three months earlier. Acacia Research, based in Newport Beach, Calif., has two operating groups, Acacia Technologies Group (ACTG) and CombiMatrix Group (CBMX). -By David Enrich; Dow Jones Newswires; 202-862-1340; david.enrich@dowjones.com (END) Dow Jones Newswires November 10, 2003 15:27 ET (20:27 GMT)

i am sure they are picking their fights wisely. they dont want to do anything in the first round that will not result in settlements... so they can go to bigger schools and say "see, they are all signing, so you should too" just like they constantly imply with their press releases/letters regarding the adult biz. regardless, i can't personally see attacking universities as a reasonable strategy to generate revenues. a university can't just panic and cut a check like a private business can.

Acacia has made many wise moves and many questionable intelligent ones. As time goes on they are making more desperate ones and more totally stupid ones. Hitting a place like DeVry that has spent unteempth millions over 25 years on television commercials can afford some mean-ass lawyers.
Keep up the good work, Acacia! May all your deathwishes come true!! |

Dravyk said it all for me. They have made some wise moves but the biggest mistake they made was in taking on the porn industry. Tell the judge they are now serving Universities he will love that.
But it's now in court and not looking good for Acacia. AVN Online
