Mon Jul 7, 9:29 AM ET Add Oddly Enough - Reuters to My Yahoo!

PARIS (Reuters) - Armed with a toy pistol, a would-be robber picked himself an unlikely target in central Paris -- a gun shop.

Staff at the Armurerie Gare de l'Est in the French capital immediately identified the weapon as harmless. The 26-year-old Mauritanian was subsequently arrested, Le Parisien newspaper reported on Friday.

STOCKHOLM, Sweden - In the future, these Swedish burglars may want to have their glasses checked.

Police said three men tried to break into an electronics store selling TVs and stereos Tuesday by drilling a hole through the wall from a neighboring suite of offices.

The would-be burglars broke into a local newspaper's office housed in the same building early Tuesday morning in Vara, 325 kilometers (200 miles) southwest of the capital, Stockholm.

Police believed they bored a hole into the wall using a power drill, but ended up breaking through into an optician's office, police spokesman Johan Svensson told The Associated Press

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...t/clothing_tags

TULSA, Okla. - A would-be burglar in Tulsa, Okla., has forgetfulness to blame for his arrest.

Police say the suspect took clothing from a store Tuesday night and removed the sensor tags from them.

But as he was leaving the store, alarms that detect the sensors in the tags went off.

Police say he told store employees he forgot he put the 12 tags in his pants pocket.

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...razil_ransom_dc

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil (Reuters) - Crime doesn't pay, especially if a robber demands a ransom be paid to his own bank account.

Police in Rio de Janeiro said on Monday such a transaction gave away a Brazilian (news - web sites) who had stolen a car and a cellular phone at gunpoint earlier this month, along with an accomplice.

The desperate owner called him on the stolen phone and negotiated the return of his vehicle for a ransom of $345.

Alleged assailant Anderlei Moreira da Silva gave his personal bank account number for the money to be deposited there but did not return the car.

"Then the owner rushed to us asking for help," investigator Jose Bezerra told Reuters. "It was no Swiss account so we quickly found him," he said.

Police tracked the account and seized the suspect over the weekend. He was identified by the van's owner. They also found a stolen car that had been exchanged for the van in his yard.

My daughter-in-law's car was burgled the other night. The perp stole a $400 camera, then hit 12 more cars...the cops found her camera in one of them.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Henry Ritter had no plans of biting a suspect he was chasing, but he saw nothing wrong with barking.

Ritter and Richard Gough, both deputies with the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department, stopped a car July 12 because of a broken taillight. The driver, 21-year-old John Nicholas Hood, jumped from the car and ran into the woods, according to the arrest report.

The officers' calls to Hood went unanswered so Gough said they were sending a dog after him. Ritter started barking.

"He stood up and said, 'I'm here. Call off the dog,'" Ritter said

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...a_garbage_theft

MELBOURNE, Australia - In a rushed grab-and-run robbery, two men with a sawed-off shotgun stole two bags of garbage from a gasoline station attendant in the southern city of Melbourne, police said Friday.

The male attendant was carrying the garbage through a shopping center parking lot in the city's western suburb of Deer Park just before midnight Thursday when a green van reversed toward him, police said.

A man, who had covered his face with a piece of yellow cloth, slid the van's side door open, produced a sawed-off shotgun and demanded the attendant hand over the bags.

"He told them it was only rubbish but they took it anyway," police spokeswoman Bronwen Kelly said.

About 15 years ago a buddy of mine owned a neighborhood bar in St. Louis City ... the immediate neighborhood was working people and degenerating into gentrification, but he was right off a main drag and not too far from a whole bunch of gangbanger wanna-bees and various and sundry crackheads.

Guy came busting through the door about 11 p.m. one night waving a starter pistol, demanding all the money.

He was shot in eleven different places from five different guns. My buddy was a retired St. Louis police officer, and 75% his customers were cops.

He never had much trouble after that until he sold the place.

FORT WORTH, Texas - A bank robber made the ultimate bad career move when he wrote a holdup note — on the back of his resume.

Police used the job-search information to identify the man, who was arrested and charged with robbing a Wells Fargo bank branch on Fort Worth's east side.

The Ann Arbor News crime column reported that a man walked into a Burger King in Ypsilanti, Michigan at 7:50am, flashed a gun and demanded cash. The clerk turned him down because he said he couldnīt open the cash register without a food order. When the man ordered onion rings, the clerk said they werenīt available for breakfast. The man, frustrated, walked away.

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor.../robbery_wallet

SCRANTON, Pa. - A man accused of trying to steal hundreds of dollars of coins from a church left police a tip as he fled.

James Drag was arrested when he went to the police station to claim the wallet left behind at the scene, authorities said.

Drag, 37, was charged with burglary, criminal trespass, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property.

Drag is accused of trying to take $295.50 in quarters and $74.20 in dimes from St. Ann's Basilica in West Scranton on Sunday afternoon. He dropped the money, along with his wallet, while a parishioner chased him, police said.

Police went to Drag's home and told a member of his family that his lost wallet was at the police station.
