My thought is (and I can be wrong) who wants the thousands of posters like someplace like GYF who aren't making serious living and just adding bullshit posts (example - would you tag this ect .... )
To give advertisers the best value and ROI you need to have an active board populated with posters from business (and the business owners or decision makers) that have financial resources and are able to make decisions than involve substantial revenue streams
Why did I use them, I've seen both here (ads and posting) and knew both did quality work and could meet my expectations
Another thing that is interesting me is https://www.epassporte.com/
I see their ad here and I listen and read all that KK and Rand have to say about it. It doesn't quite fit my business plan yet (no recurrings and just beginning to get market penetration) but with a very loyal customer base like I have the minute they can recur I will consider introducing it to my paysite customers as a viable option to other CC processors
is this a little out of the general gist of the conversation ... maybe. But a lot needs to be considered and it takes a lot of personality, intelligence, drive, vision and ambition to fulfill what Oprano is looking for so I'm just kicking a little into the gumbo
Maybe I should break this down into 5 posts he he he he

Andrew,
besides Robin (do you know Robin? ever heard of him??
there are few VERY formidable candidates for this position.
I DO appreciate your vigor and enthusiasm,
but we have to concider all candidates,
don't ya agree?

Just so long as the position is worth a phone call. You might be surprised at how qualified I am

Well, that probably tells a few people something...
there's tons of othr things you could do if the time and effort is
worth the potential collection $$ - sometimes the time and effort
is better spent elsewhere (Board growth and NEW business -
as opposed to tracing deadbeats... that always seem to resurface
at some point...)
You just answered your own questions ... the background checks you suggested above are a rediculous waste of resources. The customers banners could have been removed and a new sponsor found to replace them in 1/10 of the time it would take you to do all that background checking.
Especially seeing oprano plus doesn't charge much for advertising ... you just spent 3 times the cost of a month of advertising on checking up on the person ...
I'll take a loss of 1 month advertising revenue over all that extra headache anyday.
I've yet to see an applicant volunteer information on how they would bring in traffic and advertisers ... anyone?
some people sometimes want to track a person...
some people don't...
circumstances determine that...
to each their own...
they were merely questions/suggestions...

Serge - are you serious (as a hard on) about Robin Nixon?
That would get a quote from a Al Pacino movie!!
Just when .........
Vick,
yes, I am...I wouldn't use his name in vain
;-)))
Robin Nixon, now there's a name I haven't heard in a while....
He's truly missed....one of the true innovators. Not all of his ideas took flight, but he definitely had the ability to think outside the box especially when it came to looking at new capabilities introduced into the browsers and figuring out how to manipulate them into ways to generate traffic.
For sheer volume of posters, the GFY model is king. But ya know, I'd hate to see Oprano turn into that.
Boards aren't just pieces of software or information. They're communities. Communities of like minded individuals or at least groups that share a common interest. The Oprano community consists mostly of individuals who are more business oriented, have been around the block a time or two and are typically a bit older than the GFY crowd.
The GFY crowd seems to be young and mostly part timers or at best one man basement operations. There's more of them than there are old timers, always will be. The answer isn't luring more GFY users over to Oprano. That just waters down the gumbo.
However, it would be nice to help some of the people over there who might fit into the gumbo here find their way over. Same thing goes for any place on the web.
I have to confess in the past year, I have found a number of opportunities on GFY that never quite surfaced over here. This includes new content providers, scripts and even sponsor programs. That's a major missed opportunity on both sides. There are major players who read Oprano who will never wade into GFY deep enough to find those vendors.
As for solving Serge's hypothetical problems, it's interesting to see how various people approach a business problem. I've found that there are two things that will guide you thru most web business and marketing related problems. That is a good thorough analytical understanding of numbers and an understanding of human psychology and behavior.
Always always always study your data and numbers, and try to analyze and understand what makes them change both for the good and for the bad. When you identify something that impacts them in a positive manner, do it over and over. Automate and duplicate! If something impacts them negatively, get rid of it....or sell it to your competitor.
And always remember the key number in this business is NOT necessarily traffic....it is dollars.
