Just joined up with an ARS paysite under their free trial system & noticed they block all the feeds etc. to free trial members until they become monthly members (a great way to stop trial hoping within your system) but on each feeds page you get a promo asking to upgrade to a full active member & recieve full access to the site ... this is a config feature with IBill's next-gen system.
My question is: when does this system come to all us webmasters & does any other processors currently offer or intend to offer this system? Dollarmachine has another abboration (sp?) of the same system with epoch, its a bit more deceptive then the ars system. |

My guys and I have debating this issue.
On the surface it seems like a no brainer.... but this possibly could hurt conversions from Trial... surfers may get pissed off they did not get everything and cancel. For every leech you block, you may also lose a legitimate customer. What if a rev share program did this? Would you send signups still? For ARS its not a biggie since Marc pays per signup... What does it really save? A little bandwidth? OR is the point to motivate the buyer to become a full member? Will it be effective? We have looked into these issue many times before, especially with our signle girl sites - never could get an answer we were happy with, that is why we have NO trials for these sites.... It would be interesting to see the numbers, to see if they improved he conversion from trial to full memberships.... with the amount of signups ARS gets, I am sure they will have solid numbers to look into in a matter of weeks. |

without comparing and viewing the numbers it's all guesswork. if a sponsor is running several sites try both for a period of time and compare.

My concern would be all the ads and affiliates advertising " Complete access with your tial Membership" ..... could make those statements/ads 'deceptive advertising'....
just a thought! |

I've never noticed Mark and Becky to do something without having thought out the results they'd like to achieve and then keeping a very close eye on things until they decide if it's happening the way they'd like.

The trial memberships do give access to a lot of free porn, but we have to give them some incentive to spring for a full membership. Restricted access on trial memberships has been in place for about 3 months now, even before the More Control rollout.
None of our promo material advertises "All Access" or "Unlimited Access" for the trial memberships. I know that some gallery makers have put those terms on their pages to try and increase sign ups, and I do think that is misleading. |

The problem i see with this, there is nowhere on the terms which says you will not be able to access features advertised on the tour...
yet you do not have 100,000 images or feeds with the trial membership, so it is false advertising imho. |

Seriously though, trial sales would take a nose dive if we pointed out all the things you DON'T get with a trial membership. I still think its a great deal even at the $4.99/ 5 day trial. Last edited by DaveM at May 1 2003, 08:07 AM |
