I've been watching a lot about the various peace rallies and patriot rallies and I'm wondering which have the most sheep just mindlessly spouting what everyone else is saying?
While I am very proud to be an American and love my country, I sometimes take issue with it, but would always support it and our system...but I do this crazy thing called read and form opinions and get involved in the process (voting, paying attention to initiatives, etc.) At both types of rallies though I see a lot of misguided people who may have thir hearts in the right place, but just seem to come off parrotish (fuck, is that even a word?). I see a lot of people waving flags at Patriot rallies and some seem to only be there because they are there with someone else...and I see the same thing at peace rallies...people standing around with funny signs and chanting catchy slogans, yet seem to not have a clue about where Iraq even is on a fucking map. While I'm sure there are equal numbers of people on both sides who's hearts are really in it and the really believe in their thoughts, fights, values and opinions, it just seems that those who get the most camera time on the news are morons and "there for the pussy" I'm hitting one of the patriot rallies here, hoping I can get these same patriots to get out and vote in the upcoming primary elections and take part in their country by getting involved in things like school board elections, school board policies, local community service, community efforts, local charities, city council meetings, town hall meetings, PTA/PTO events/meetings and other things to keep this country great and their local cities in better shape. Then off to the peace rallies to score some pussy........

Actually, it is rather interesting to backtrack the sponsors and to compare the signs with the stated cause...

For me, it's about the actions one hopes to achieve and whether it is realistic they will be achieved.
I don't get the "freedom fries" thing because I don't think it will achive the desired action. What IS the purpose? I don't get the French boycott thing because I don't think it will achieve the desired action. Maybe even the opposite. Lots of Coca and Big Macs sold in France. I don't get the peace protest thing because I don't seen many people with signs that say "Stop the war". Instead, I see signs that say "Bush is after oil", 'Bush is Hitler", etc. Only about 10% of the signs contain the war "peace". I counted 5 of 54. The large majority of signs are anti-Bush, NOT pro-peace. That violence that has erupted at many of the protests has not escaped anyone's attention. It's not going to stop the war. What is the purpose? The pro-troop protests have a goal and it is achievable, to send the message to the troops and increase their morale. Some of the troops still enroute will certainly see them and know that they have some support at home. Regardless, people should rally all they want but the people sitting in the middle of the street breaking the law should be arrested and detained until the end of the war. ;-) Last edited by Colin at Mar 28 2003, 08:54 AM
