I came up with an idea for a site. Bought the domain and hosted it. Talked to Jettis about having them do all of the billing etc. Then it occurred to me that it would be easier and cheaper to just put it up as a strictly advertising site. Am I way off or not? I know the site would work with the right money and design thrown at it. Do I take the chance or just put banners on it to drive traffic elsewhere? HELP!! If I do drive traffic, who do I stay away from as far as companies that don't pay? I have found a lot of sites to advertise, (hundreds of thousands!!), just don't know which way to go. Any advice, etc would be helpful.

I don't think that's true. It seems to me that you need to be in a niche and need to reinvent that niche to stay afloat. I may be wrong, but who knows.

It is difficult to give opinions when the question is so vague. Bottom line right now is traffic, if you can round up, produce traffic you can make money. From their your choice would be to send it to 3rd parties or keep it yourself. But there are so many factors that go into the decision, including how much traffic you are able to round up.

Hmmm, this might be more difficult than I thought. I wanted to be rich by Friday.
I know this is a time consuming, long term process. I just was looking for insite into what most people are doing. Are they taking the steps to open up a site and then pay 50-60% of their memberships out to traffic producers, or becoming a traffic producer themselves. Which is a better first step? Is one near impossible and the other just plain impossible? Quote:

lanboy you are at the very beginning stages, you are a newbie - that isn't a putdown either. Nobody should be messing around with a paysite until they have a firm grasp on webmastering and doing business on the adult Net. So set your site up as a free site, learn how to build traffic and send traffic to sponsors who will pay you a decent buck. once you've been at it awhile you can reassess what you're doing. There are all sorts of ways to make something of a living on the adult Net. Some people do nothing but build TGP galleries, others build and run AVS and AVS premium sites, some become designers, some go to work for bigger companies doing site building, programming, etc , others run paysites and webmaster affiliate programs, some run webmaster resource sites, some do nothing but search engine work etc etc
good luck Last edited by Mutt at Nov 25 2002, 09:57 AM |

neither are impossible. But operating a successful paysite when you are starting from square one is impossible. forget about that for now.
start with free sites and some TGPing, get a very cheap host for the TGPing. |

Yeah if you are just stating out lanboy, you need to focus on crawling before you walk. It would be a good leasson for you to start doing the basic of rounding up traffic, TGPing and other basic things.
Once you understand how this dynamic works then you can move on a little. But without traffic you will never get anywhere. The addage, "Build it and they will come" does not apply to programs anymore. If you expect people to send you traffic, you will have to have somethng very unique, and then you will have to get some webmasters to try it out. On a % deal, that will even be more difficult - especially when big programs that are a KNOWN in this indsutry pay up to $45 a signup. |

lanboy,
Read my reply I made in the Newbie Forum. One easy way to get started is to create an AVS site. Basically all you have to have is a 'tour' and 20 or 30 pictures to give your 'Members'. The rest of the content comes from the AVS company. Like I said in the Newbie forum, in the beginning you may have to 'Feed the Internet' for a little while. It sounds like SitePass could be the starting point you are looking for. Take a look and let me know what you think. Contact me by email, ICQ, AIM, or YIM. I will be more than happy to explain how a system like SitePass will allow you to start making money online with very little effort! Last edited by EricP at Nov 25 2002, 10:57 PM |

The more I think about it, the more I think L-vi is backing Acacia. I mean who else would hold patents to every major innovation on the Internet?
