November 9, 2002 -- Larry Clark stands up for U.S.

MAVERICK director Larry Clark beat up the distributor for his movie
"Ken Park" after the jerk declared that America deserved to get
attacked on 9/11.

Clark, who helmed "Kids" and "Bully," delivered a brutal beat-down to
Hamish McAlpine after the screwy Scotsman started spewing
anti-American and anti-Israeli sentiments during dinner at London's
posh Charlotte Street Hotel Thursday night.

An enraged Clark, 59, punched McAlpine several times in the face -
breaking his nose - choked him, then overturned the dinner table on
the bloodied big mouth.

Clark was arrested by London police - and now McAlpine is pulling "Ken
Park" from the London Film Festival, where it was supposed to unspool
tonight.

"He says he's not going to distribute the film now and he's pulling it
from the film festival," Clark told us from London yesterday. "He can
be mad at me for punching him in the nose, but don't take it out on
'Ken Park.' "

Clark said he lost it when McAlpine ranted that 9/11 "was the best
thing that ever happened to America" and declared that innocent
Israelis blown up by Palestnian suicide bombers "deserved to die."

"I was wrong," Clark said. "I shouldn't have punched him. I shouldn't
have lost it. But at the same time, I wouldn't have been able to look
myself in the mirror the next morning if I hadn't done anything. I'm
not gonna let this [bleeping] idiot talk about supporting terrorism
and the killing of innocent people. I am an American!"

Diners who witnessed the restaurant ruckus included "Ken Park" starlet
Tiffany Limos, Clark's co-director, Edward Lachman, and Mel B of the
Spice Girls, who was sitting at a nearby table. Clark said the police
who arrested him were sympathetic. "The cops were very nice and they
seemed to feel like they would have done the same thing," he told us.
"They let me go with a ticket."

But "Ken Park" is sure to suffer a harsher fate than its hot-tempered
helmer.

The controversial flick, which features lots of male and female
full-frontal nudity and an explicit three-way sex scene, has yet to
find a distributor in the U.S. Now, "Ken Park" may not be seen in the
U.K.

The buzz surrounding "Ken Park" is similar to the chatter that
accompanied the release of his debut "Kids," in 1995. The critically
acclaimed flick featured a gang of Manhattan skater kids who spend
their days brawling, doing drugs and having unprotected sex. It
launched the careers of Chloe Sevigny and Rosario Dawson.

Invitees to tonight's aborted screening in London included director
Steven Frears, designers Alexander McQueen and Stella McCartney,
Matthew Williamson and Bay Garnett.

I'll buy that. You want to disagree with U.S. foreign policy, that's fine; you want to object to our reasons for going to war, or for our support for Isreal, I don't have a problem with that, either.

You want to suggest that the death of 2,800 people of the world who happened to commit the imperialist act of going to work on 9/11/2001 deserved to die for some so-called political cause, you probably have teeth blocking the view of your eye teeth, preventing you from seeing what you are saying. I think Mr. Clark did the liberal, helpful thing. in trying to remove them.

He seems to feel appropriately guilty. He's okay.

I saw the 'creator' of Kids on David Letterman and the kid was so socially retarded Dave was actually speechless. He squirmed in his chair (I think he was 20 at the time) and could not form a coherent sentence.

Kids was a terrible movie. What I saw of Bully was equally bad. I have no idea what a Scot has against America, other than our alliance with the British maybe, but I guess there are assholes in every industry. Some of them just get more press than others!

Your kidding, right Sykk? Julian, Donkey Boy was by far the lamest hunk of cinematic tripe its been my misfortune to view in a long time. Every scene in that film was excruciating to watch. I was amazed that Werner Herzog was involved... I guess he went off the deep end.

and "Kids" sucked. Ok, so it was a controversial statement just rife with social commentary designed to make us introspectively look at the world we live in. But it was a piss-poorly acted, painful to watch series of shabbily constructed scenes that did absolutely nothing to engage me mentally. I like all kinds of cinema. And I don't mind a movie that is supposed to make me think. I DO mind movies that make me regret the 120 valuable minutes of my life that I just piddled away. I would have gotten more out of sitting in a corner for 2 hours smacking my forehead with a pingpong paddle.

Well I guess thats my problem, Sykk... I have a HUGE problem with cinema that is designed to be understood by an effete few. A handful of pretentious film cockholsters know dick all about "art film" in my book.

I Hate Woody Allen movies for the exact same reason, althought he manages to get large studios to release his tripe.

Kurosawa is ART. Huston is ART. Welles is art. Scott is ART.

for the record, I hate Woody Allen too ))
although admit to laughing a few times at The Jade Scorpion.....

I'm equally at home with a pretentiuos artsy fartsy Hormony Korine film as I am with the latest installment of the Friday The 13th series....

mmmmmmmmm, Jason 11....come on Dimension films, don't fail us now....

that reminds me, the great must-rent for the slasher completist/b-movie junkie would be "The Pool"...lame acting, poor dialog, but one vicious little slasher movie...giant indoor waterslide + no light + machete weilding madman at the bottom = a vicious scene in a really vicious movie......you can even play a drinking game with this movie...take a drink every time the detective says "damn kids"

Oh, come on. There's NOTHING to think about. It's a movie about how fucked up "kids" are. Teens having sex, getting AIDS, rape, cussing a lot, doing drugs. There's nothing deep about that and there wasn't 10 years ago either. Maybe for old people that live a very sheltered life - but come on - to you guys in the porn industry it should just be "yup, that's how kids are." No big deal.

What is there to understand?

Teen sex.

extactly my point, Colin - i didn't need 2 hrs or boring-ass crap foisted my way as "art" to tell me about how kids are. At least give me an intriguing story - not just some dumb-ass paint-huffing skateboarding wiggers that I wouldn't piss on if they were aflame. I'd be more tempted to spray on some lighter fluid!

movies = entertainment... they MUST. dumb street kids do not.

Sykk - at least we agree on Woody and slasher films! that earns you tons of point in my book!

Watch it, Mutt... the :eninja: are closer than you think...

[Spoiler: Don't read if you want to see movie]

The chick gets AIDS. That's the story. Not bad. Sorta back to school special-ish though.

Edd- I ignored the "art" aspect. I just went for the teen sex. Good movie.

Sorry Colin, but when I think "teen sex" there is a third word associated with that - "comedy".... and "Kids" didn't have one iota of comedic parlayance in its entirety. I couldn't even laugh at how stupid it was, it was so stupid.

Larry Clark loves the teen sex too...a good example is "Kids", "Bully" and the ultra-cheesy but really fun "Teenage Caveman"...

My favorite movie critic, Arrow In The Head, actually brought this up at one time...about Clark's love of all flesh teen....although he seemed against it...hmmm.........
actually, here's his review of the movie (note: this is a horror movie critic who digs breasts and the red stuff)

Sykk,

How's the bowling coming? I bowled for the first time in 10 years last week and still suck. 98, 113, and 122. While there I realized if I could bowl a strike one out of 10 times the odds of me bowling a perfect game were 1 in 1 trillion. That improved to 1 in a quarter billion if I can get it to
1 strike in 5 frames. Guess I'll have to improve a bit.

The finger holes in the bowling balls at the alley are too small. I have nice thick fingers. No skiny-minnies like some guys do. These digits were pumped up by violent guitar playing in the late 80's.

While the best I think I've bowled was a 210, I'll say this: if you want to enjoy bowling more get your own ball. A decent one (not the shitty plastic cheapos) is only $120-170 and shoes are like $40. Get the thumb drilled WIDE not bowling-alley style and you will be able to put some spin on it without really trying. Any bowling pro can tell you this, but I have a ball and shoes and let me tell you it made it immesurably more fun. I think you can seriously hurt yourself with the balls at the alley, they are either too small too big too heavy, etc. Straining your arm for 2 hours straight is never a good idea, especially with a 16 lb. weight attached to it.

Cal,

I also liked the bowling alley scoring machines. Available were statistics such as "First pin average". Mine was 5.2. Not good. It didn't have standard deviation.

Hey Co,
the bowling is doing fine..so nice to just get out of the house, drink a few beers, swear and have fun...
last week I sucked like a 12 year old virgin at the vatican: 126-154-162 worst I've done all season....it's a bit of a screwoff league and I'm embrassingly in first place on average with a 180 (I took a couple years off with a bum shoulder, so am just starting to get back into it). When I took the time off, 180 wouldn't have even been high average on my team....I want to get back into some serious action....the team I had bowled on before, we were so competetive it forced me to better...I was at 195 and the team average was 191

I agree with cal that you ned your own ball and shoes...you can slide better with your own shoes and get a little more on the ball...also, with it custom drilled to your own hand (I suggest getting the thumb hole a little bigger, because your hand swells over the course of a couple games...I have two...one I use for my first shot, then a cheapie polyester ball that goes straighter for spares on the right hand side. I'm thinking of getting a 3rd ball for the last half of the 3rd game when my hand starts swelling and the oil on the lanes breaks down a bit more...don't get your ball at walmart..go to a good pro shop at your local bowling center and talk at length with the salesman. Let them know if you are a serious bowler, recreational bowler or looking to get into a league and looking to get a bit more serious. They'll set you up with the right ball, shoes, etc. I personally recomend the new Storms...it's a reactive resin ball that breaks hard at the end (of course I have mine drilled top heavy for a little extra tumble at the end of the lane) and will run about $150-180

wow, from fisticuffs to artsy fartsy teen porn films to bowling in the same thread
