I think the next few years will be great. All the better companies are at their highs or within 20% of their highs for the year. I think the gloom of september happened last week and October, November and January will kick ass. Bush winning the election and a terrorist attack( which would only create short term losses) would be the only thing that would cxreate drawbacks.

I use a market letter CABOT. I started using them in 1990 or so up until 98 ish until the crash. That and my divorce set me back I just stated back 2 months ago and am doing well. Jetblue airlines is my big winner so far.

I say jump in--but don't try and hit any home runs with old dead techs. Pick stuff near there highs or within 20% of it.

Hmmmmm this is the exact opposite we have heard from WIG/BPJ....

I personally am bullish on the economy... and stock... but I am a bull in general and have been hurt by it.

I think there is some real momentum in the economy - without any major setbacks ( terrorist attack on US, more accounting scandels, Voodoo getting laid) I think we will see a steady bull.... not like the late 90s, but still solid.

I think people/money want to get back into the market, any excuse people are jumping in strong. Even the down days are not as bad, and when the market pops it covers the previous losses and adds....

Heshy any specific stocks you like? I have been just playing with QQQ and FFF

Brad,
let me define "decent" for some who don't know...
if you lost 90% in the stock market and regained 50% from the bottom,
you are still 85% down from the original position
;-)))

...unless you just trade!

Lets talk nasdaq. She was at 5000. It turned out it was becasue everybody and their mother was in on tech stocks and they were way overbought. I'm not saying 5000 is happening soon but I can see 3000 by the end of 2005. That would still be 70% of its high. Economy is getting batter and no one has their cash in the market yet. The stockmarket is turning around based on results from the companies rather than investors falling in love with names.

The market letter I use holds up to 12 stocks at a time. They now own 11.

Hold Apollo Group APOL 66 42
Buy Corning GLW 9 6
Buy eResearch Tech ERES 35 15
Buy Flamel Tech FLML 34 39
Sell Gilead Sciences GILD 56 41
Buy International Game IGT 28 19
Buy JetBlue JBLU 61 50
Hold Kyphon KYPH 19 24
Hold NBTY NTY 23 26
Buy NetEase NTES 56 21
Hold Odyssey Healthcare ODSY 30 20
Buy XM Satellite Radio XMSR 16 5

******************************************

The stockmarket is like a tennis ball. It bounces back and forth. Everybody has goten stung in the stockmarket.. The long termers win. Cash in the market now will be worth 5times its original status by 2005. Thats right.
I believe if you start now your account will be worth 5 times its value now in december 2004. Thats' 14 months.

All bullshit aside, I have doubled my money in 6 months with the following stocks.

SNAK poore brother snak chips in walmart
LSCP laser removal of tatoos
OXGN about to move soon, human testing!
MDCI medical
BR offshore drilling exploration
ICOS viagra from europe competitor
RAD rite aid
UDW ( just did a 5:1 reverse split ) some kind of check verification banks use
RCII ( just did a 2:1 reverse split ) and splits often rent-a-center

I highly recommend OXGN and SNAK and LSCP

I just tossed in another 40k towards those.. I have become very interested in biotech and medical stocks... and few other little gems ill keep to my self.

do yourself a favor and research the above.. ask your broker, or toss a coin... i back those 100%

short term, the odds are much higher that we will have a big correction in stocks, versus the chances for any kind of meaningful rally.

a couple months from now many people will be mad they did not get out while the gettin was good (i.e. sell now while you still have some gains left).

and how much are you losing in your short position, may I ask?

you remind me of myself back in 1985-1987
I was buying puts on the market from 1995 'till AUGUST of 1987...I just ran out of money, while the stocks were moving up....

in Octobner of 1987, the market lost 508 points, 22% in one day,
but....the ship has left without me

What's the point of keeping gems for yourself? The value doesn't go up when people keep gems to themselves.

I lost a good chunk during the 40% rise in the nasdaq over the past few months, but I made some back during the recent downturn. I am a lot more cautious now when to take short positions. I did pretty good the past two days shorting bonds (+3.5% in fund RRPIX the past 2 days)

All we need now is a 20% down week in the nasdaq and I'll be even for the year. If the market does not surpass the september 19th highs early next week we could see some nice declines.

Biotech---FLML

My company recomended it at 40 on its way up. Hit 45 ish than droped last week. Very small company not real profitable yet but just signed to huge contracts with Bristol-Scribs Myers and another major drug company worths millions in profits over the years.

My company said to but a half position and then buy another half once she proves herself ( i guess between 45 and 50). I know the system sounds wierd but its how they protect themselves.

Always average up when the stock is higher not lower. Why--because you never know where a bottom can be.

Number 1 rule---20% down and you get out. Never fall in love with a NAME.

Here's my opinion for what it is worth.

The market has gained much since the lows in Oct of 02 and Mar of 03 as projected.

I am short from the current level and have been since I said a high was likely a few weeks ago.

I still expect a quick 2-4 week correction in October.

I had originally thought that Oct may hold a cycle high, but market action is suggesting otherwise (unless new highs are seen).

If we do break in October, we should put in a low that will lead to another rally. This will have changed my longer term outlook slightly.

I have 10,500 on the DJIA as a potential target.

The time to buy will be if the market breaks into months end. 8800-9000 and 950-960 are initial support levels to watch for.

The market is still vulnerable to a drop below 7000/DJIA and I fully expect this going into 2005 (maybe by end of 2004).

The ultimate low for eqities is not in yet IMO.

PS- be careful of correlating economy with financial markets!

Serge---your cash should be INVESTED. Your losing cash being on the sidelines.

Your safety net is SELL when down 20%.

And let your winners keep winning.

Always hold or sell once your winners take a 20% to 30% dip from its previos high.

It ain't Rocket science----JUST simple math

thank you for your FREE advice,
I really need it!

you are a student of math,
let's play the math.

if you lost 20% of your position,
the stock should go up 25% for you to break even

if you lost 40% of your position,
the stock should go up 66% for you to break even

...and if one makes 1% a year on 100,000,000 in money market with ZERO chance to lose money,
who will come up ahead over the life time, assuming you started with 100,000 and enjoy 30% a year returns with 25% chance to get nailed 30%?

do you need to borrow my calculator or math book course for the correct answer?

Shit can't stay down for ever.

The thing that will hurt most investors is that they have not yet let go of the buy and hold mentality.

If the market simply swings in large distribution movements, the investors of the last 15 years will get whipsawed to death.

What if the market repeats what it did between the late 60's and early 80's?? Can you handle 16 years of sideways? This is what is more likely to occur after a euphoric rise and peak.

Fixing losses at "X" % has to be one of the wildet things I ever heard.

Either the market is telling you stay in a position or get out and it does not always do so at "X" %.

Market action is dynamic, not static.

Sometimes, concentrating on the return OF your money is more important than the return ON your money.

Cash is king when no one else has any.

Look around today and give me your honest opinion on the liquidity of the average american (let alone average american stock market investor).

h,

no offense but for every buyer there is a seller and vice versa.

I think the markets are a much more complicated and dynamic mechanism that you are suggesting.

If it is simple math, then instead of posting here you would be in the Bahamas sipping margaritas and counting your money.

Or did you just start this program?

And not to be cynical, but I believe that it is going to be rather difficult times for the next few years, probably stretching out to 2008.

That does not mean the economy won't expand. Only that it will be tougher on the general population.

There won't be ppl making money hand over fist like they were when the market was going straight up.

It was that euphoric mentality that aided many things, including the willingness to hang on to a porn membership or write off that unexpected recurred transactions instead of charging it back.

There is a big difference in the psychology of the masses at this point compared with 1999-2000.

I would never discount WAR vs. PEACE time either!

heshe,
and here is one more and LASTR about the math.

here is MY math,
I don't know ANYBODY who uses it but me,
...and it works PERFECT for ME.

Here is what I do:
I keep the running total of my portfolio, including my checking acount I live off. Dividends added, taxes deleted, income from all sources added, stock/bond prices updated daily,
which gives me the TRUE number where I am at any given day.

If I bought $50,000 diamond,
the numbers is reduced by $50,000, so you get my drift.

Because...I don't care how much Dow is up this year, how much NASD is up this year, how much Oprano's profits down this year,
all I care about what the TOTAL, the sum of it all is like.

As a safety valve, I have the number, which is crossed on the down side, I start curbing my expences drastically and start washing condoms instead of buying diamonds.

I am 8% up for the year, 6% up year to date and this is ALL I care about as far as money are concerned.

One day, you get the beauty of MY math and thank me accordingly!

I disagree on your market prediction as a whole but that is here nor there when it comes down to an indivuals portfolio.

Speaking on indivual stocks. If you buy stocks and they each go down 20% and you get out, obviously you lose. But if a good % goes up and you let your winners keep going there is money to be made if the company your using is making the correct picks.

One day, you get the beauty of MY math and thank me accordingly!
;-)
Serge--good for you...and I am not being sarcastic.

Rereading everything I guess we are all in different positions financially
and I guess I never took that into account.

Serge, wig--you guys are most likely doing much better than me as far as me in terms of what we have put away.

You guys have larger sums and therefore most likely are much more conservative which I guess I would be too.

I, on the other hand are being aggressive trying to accumulate and therefore it is obvioulsy riskier especially dealing with indivual stocks.

3. I didn't listen to the system and chased

4. I spent to much

No this program was started a long time ago and as I stated before I was greedy and didn't listen and used my head instead of there.

So, you don't listen, you chase and you are basically driven by emotion like the majority of investors.

Realizing that you do not trust yourself, you follow a newsletter hoping that taking 20% losses everytime you / they are wrong will net you money.

Seriously, how long have you been active in the markets?
