I think the next few years will be great. All the better companies are at their highs or within 20% of their highs for the year. I think the gloom of september happened last week and October, November and January will kick ass. Bush winning the election and a terrorist attack( which would only create short term losses) would be the only thing that would cxreate drawbacks.
I use a market letter CABOT. I started using them in 1990 or so up until 98 ish until the crash. That and my divorce set me back I just stated back 2 months ago and am doing well. Jetblue airlines is my big winner so far. I say jump in--but don't try and hit any home runs with old dead techs. Pick stuff near there highs or within 20% of it. heshy |
Hmmmmm this is the exact opposite we have heard from WIG/BPJ....
I personally am bullish on the economy... and stock... but I am a bull in general and have been hurt by it. I think there is some real momentum in the economy - without any major setbacks ( terrorist attack on US, more accounting scandels, Voodoo getting laid) I think we will see a steady bull.... not like the late 90s, but still solid. I think people/money want to get back into the market, any excuse people are jumping in strong. Even the down days are not as bad, and when the market pops it covers the previous losses and adds.... Heshy any specific stocks you like? I have been just playing with QQQ and FFF |
Last two quarters have been decent. Lets hope that the market continues to gain, or I may me walking to the office.

let me define "decent" for some who don't know... if you lost 90% in the stock market and regained 50% from the bottom, you are still 85% down from the original position ;-))) ...unless you just trade! ;-)) |
Lets talk nasdaq. She was at 5000. It turned out it was becasue everybody and their mother was in on tech stocks and they were way overbought. I'm not saying 5000 is happening soon but I can see 3000 by the end of 2005. That would still be 70% of its high. Economy is getting batter and no one has their cash in the market yet. The stockmarket is turning around based on results from the companies rather than investors falling in love with names.
The market letter I use holds up to 12 stocks at a time. They now own 11. Hold Apollo Group APOL 66 42 Buy Corning GLW 9 6 Buy eResearch Tech ERES 35 15 Buy Flamel Tech FLML 34 39 Sell Gilead Sciences GILD 56 41 Buy International Game IGT 28 19 Buy JetBlue JBLU 61 50 Hold Kyphon KYPH 19 24 Hold NBTY NTY 23 26 Buy NetEase NTES 56 21 Hold Odyssey Healthcare ODSY 30 20 Buy XM Satellite Radio XMSR 16 5 |
Best buy oppurtunity now FLML for a quick run up
GLW if she goes back around 9ish I got jblu at 49. Its 65ish now. If she dips jump in. GREAT Airline stock. XMSR--watch this baby especially with all the commercials now |
MIKE FOLD---you around?? Still Daytrading???

****************************************** The stockmarket is like a tennis ball. It bounces back and forth. Everybody has goten stung in the stockmarket.. The long termers win. Cash in the market now will be worth 5times its original status by 2005. Thats right. I believe if you start now your account will be worth 5 times its value now in december 2004. Thats' 14 months. h |

short term, the odds are much higher that we will have a big correction in stocks, versus the chances for any kind of meaningful rally.
a couple months from now many people will be mad they did not get out while the gettin was good (i.e. sell now while you still have some gains left). :zoinks: :headwall: |

All we need now is a 20% down week in the nasdaq and I'll be even for the year. If the market does not surpass the september 19th highs early next week we could see some nice declines. :rokk: |

My company recomended it at 40 on its way up. Hit 45 ish than droped last week. Very small company not real profitable yet but just signed to huge contracts with Bristol-Scribs Myers and another major drug company worths millions in profits over the years. My company said to but a half position and then buy another half once she proves herself ( i guess between 45 and 50). I know the system sounds wierd but its how they protect themselves. Always average up when the stock is higher not lower. Why--because you never know where a bottom can be. Number 1 rule---20% down and you get out. Never fall in love with a NAME. h |
Here's my opinion for what it is worth.
The market has gained much since the lows in Oct of 02 and Mar of 03 as projected. I am short from the current level and have been since I said a high was likely a few weeks ago. I still expect a quick 2-4 week correction in October. I had originally thought that Oct may hold a cycle high, but market action is suggesting otherwise (unless new highs are seen). If we do break in October, we should put in a low that will lead to another rally. This will have changed my longer term outlook slightly. I have 10,500 on the DJIA as a potential target. The time to buy will be if the market breaks into months end. 8800-9000 and 950-960 are initial support levels to watch for. The market is still vulnerable to a drop below 7000/DJIA and I fully expect this going into 2005 (maybe by end of 2004). The ultimate low for eqities is not in yet IMO. PS- be careful of correlating economy with financial markets! |
wig,
reading your post makes my cash position to look better and better by the hour ;-)))) I have some shopping list I wanna fill at lower prices, let's hope the market gets there ;-)))) |

Best ride of a stock I ever had or ever saw PRST. I owned it at 13. Held till 200. She droped from 200 to 87 in 4 or 5 days. You can't win or lose. I had the balls to keep holding it when everyone I knew told me to sell. But if I listened to them over that 18 month period I would have been out at and never saw the 200. Then the shorts caught up and BANG. Moral--the companies eventually have to bring in the cash the forcasters believe they will. My point is that the shorts are what drove it up. They had to keep buying shares because it was flying up to that 200 price over about 12 to 18 months. I got out at 87 but 4 or 5 days before it was 200. The day before I sold she closed at 125. Then she opened the next day at 90ish. I was fucken naucious. Oh well--live and learn---but what a ride. Check the chart. It doesn't show 200 but I guess beacuse of the splits. http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=PRST&t=my |

If the market simply swings in large distribution movements, the investors of the last 15 years will get whipsawed to death. What if the market repeats what it did between the late 60's and early 80's?? Can you handle 16 years of sideways? This is what is more likely to occur after a euphoric rise and peak. Fixing losses at "X" % has to be one of the wildet things I ever heard. Either the market is telling you stay in a position or get out and it does not always do so at "X" %. Market action is dynamic, not static. |

And not to be cynical, but I believe that it is going to be rather difficult times for the next few years, probably stretching out to 2008.
That does not mean the economy won't expand. Only that it will be tougher on the general population. There won't be ppl making money hand over fist like they were when the market was going straight up. It was that euphoric mentality that aided many things, including the willingness to hang on to a porn membership or write off that unexpected recurred transactions instead of charging it back. There is a big difference in the psychology of the masses at this point compared with 1999-2000. I would never discount WAR vs. PEACE time either! |

heshe,
and here is one more and LASTR about the math. here is MY math, I don't know ANYBODY who uses it but me, ...and it works PERFECT for ME. Here is what I do: I keep the running total of my portfolio, including my checking acount I live off. Dividends added, taxes deleted, income from all sources added, stock/bond prices updated daily, which gives me the TRUE number where I am at any given day. If I bought $50,000 diamond, the numbers is reduced by $50,000, so you get my drift. Because...I don't care how much Dow is up this year, how much NASD is up this year, how much Oprano's profits down this year, all I care about what the TOTAL, the sum of it all is like. As a safety valve, I have the number, which is crossed on the down side, I start curbing my expences drastically and start washing condoms instead of buying diamonds. I am 8% up for the year, 6% up year to date and this is ALL I care about as far as money are concerned. One day, you get the beauty of MY math and thank me accordingly! ;-) |

The company I use holds up to 12 stocks at a time but never more. OBVIOUSLY you have make the correct picks which beat the market. Take a stock priced at $50. $50-20%= $40. When the stock hits $40 sell this way you limit your losses on any 1 stock to 20%. As the stock moves along say to $100 and then moves down to $70 to $80 sell and take your profit. This is what I mean by simple math. I am not using my own stock picks. I am not that smart or eduacated to make those decisions. I use a service which I have used years ago and trust. But the system does work. They usually but stocks at their highs or within 20% of. h |

You have to believe in the people or company choosing your stocks. That is most important. If you follow the 20% loss system and the sell on 20% to 30% off the stocks peak from time of purchase AND DON'T CHASE its almost full proof. I only lose when I use my own mind and not simple math. Again this is based on the company picking your stocks making the correct choses. h |

I spent to much I have learned from my mistakes. I know everybody did great in the mid to late 90's but at 1 point I was almost 20 times my original investment. I'm sticking 100% to what each stock is telling me to do by its price and the math I speak of. |

I disagree on your market prediction as a whole but that is here nor there when it comes down to an indivuals portfolio. Speaking on indivual stocks. If you buy stocks and they each go down 20% and you get out, obviously you lose. But if a good % goes up and you let your winners keep going there is money to be made if the company your using is making the correct picks. |

You guys have larger sums and therefore most likely are much more conservative which I guess I would be too. I, on the other hand are being aggressive trying to accumulate and therefore it is obvioulsy riskier especially dealing with indivual stocks. h |

Any stock that goes down 20% from your purchase price you sell. And all the stocks that you hold that are double triple or higher once they drop 30% from there peak you sell them. If they continue to go up you hold. And to answer your question about how long have I been investing in the stockmarket--since about 1990. h |
