Good to see you posting over here finally :) I gotta agree with you wholeheartedly, there's definetly a difference between inviting friends out for dinner/drinks and trying to bulk get people together. For example some of the better companies on that list have already put together their private parties for the show, nothing to detract visitors from the actual show but a little thank you for doing business type of thing.
Forest you'd have done alot better by not announcing anything, introducing yourself to people at the show and inviting them to an after hours party.

But that's just my opinion, I'm probably wrong ;)
