As demonstrated by the misguided, misinformed and no doubt inbred security guards, the good guys don't always win no matter how right they may be. The momentary gratification provided by beating the assholes into slime would have most likely backfired on you terribly.

My brother was on the receiving end of one of those incidents in a nice college bar. Of course the party line has to get thrown in here bubba. "There are so many factors that go into a program that in the end only the profit per click based on YOUR OWN counters is what matters"

Butttt.... for the sake of making it clear why sometimes 35-40 per active member is better than 40 per signup.

1) Active member proggies are almost always based around free trials which tend to convert 2-3 times as well as paid trials. So while with the same traffic I might have made 1 sale on a per-join program, i might have made 3 joins and 2 or 1 actives on a per-active proggy. Result? It certainly will vary, but my clicks generated the same revenue through either program.

2) For webmasters who have high quality traffic, a join program is a very bad idea because the per-join prices are based on aggregate traffic data, not on performance data. So while per-join proggy's are great for crap traffic, per actives are performance based and can thus result in a much higher return for the advanced webmaster.


Now i'll be the first to admit that there are probably 2 holes for every word i typed above, however when asking a question such as you did, you must make VERY SPECIFIC questions such as:

I have 20k uniques a day of __(fill in the blank.. e.g. tgp, se, cj)___ traffic to send to a sponsor.
Historically my traffic has converted at __(fill in the blank)__ based on my own first page counts.

I tried a per-active program from ___(fill in the blank)___ and about __(fill in a % here)__ of my joins became active with conversions of ___(fill in a conversion ratio)__ based on my own first page counts of __(fill in your counts)__.
I earned ___(fill in a $value)___ per active member. he had two friends too, either side of me.
they decided to look threatening, while i had the first guys arm locked. and one of them threatened to hurt me with a knife (verbally).
woop dee fucking do da, a knife.
vass was trying to say i was with him, a friend, and all the rest.
no-one listened.
i was still on autopilot ofcourse.

anyway, security came down, and get this, this is fucking absurd, they surrounded vass, thone only guy who did not do shit, at all, and took him outside. i extracted myself and followed him.
ofcourse, outside, everything started to hurt, etc.
and we were both annoyed.

I recall some sponsors who were paying $42 per sign up and were loved by anybody,
untill now when webmastering boards talk nothing but their 1:20,000 conversion rates.

I'd rather take $100 per whatever from General than $1000 for whatever from somebody I don't know well.

well, here goes.
me and vass got dropped off in the valley after the reception, and we went out.
first to the press club, he knew ppl there, we hung, and then we headed up to bravo (never been there before) it was nice. we went through two bottles of bolli, talked to his friends and hung out.
i met this cute chick, ended up exchanging brief massages :)
then vass wanted to go, i tried to get her phone number, but she said she would like to get to know me more (i.e, me going to bravo more) before she did.
i was disappointed, but ok with that, and we went to the family.
that was vass's idea. i do not like the place, but by then, he seemed to need to be baby sat.
so we got there, he talked to ppl he knew and we didn't have to pay cover. it was ok inside. despite the suits we did a bit on the dance floor, he flirted like crazy, and a pleasent time was had by all.
until some fucking dick for brains decided to pick me.
