its finding the solution that is hard.

the reality is that millions of people did nothing as images of genocide in Bosnia were beamed right into their living room.
________________________________

these things do not directly affect everyone. i mean the average person does not really have time to worry about an infinate number of problems around the globe, when he cannot get an erection in Mousefart Kansas.

however, many people want to regulate the adult web, from people who are just concerned about their children to the Attorney General and President. that will effect everyone here in one way or another.

it is everyones problem. but no one is even willing to concede that there may be a problem, much less, concede to finding a solution that may be more advantageous than the ones that will be imposed on you as a result of your unwillingness to do so yourselves.

JR well, ok.... actually i am an actor and porn just pays the bills until i catch my break... at Dairy Queen where i am the assistant night manager.

not that i do not feel there is some validity to this point but what about doing nothing??

the adult world has proposed no real solutions to preventing a child in a library to going to a site like the huns and looking at a woman fucking a great dane.

"its the parents problem" is a common response from the adult industry. probably the most common. But is it the most responsible? It is an answer that shows that you agree that a young child should not have free access to porn?

i do not agree that it is the parents problem. i do not agree that a child should need to be monitored 24/7 while taking advantage of one of the greatest learning tools we will see in our lifetimes.

as i have said before... no one considers putting Hustler magazine behind the counter, censorship or considers it the parents problem...

no one objects to a 14 year old boy not being allowed into a strip club.

no one objects to a law forbidding the sales of cigarrettes to minors, or asking for valid ID

but suddenly, according to most, it is no ones problem when a child can look at your tgp galleries.

Solutions to these issues are or WILL BE imposed on the adult industry because for the most part, the adult industry does not care.

The adult industry has failed to police itself and is flooded with thieves, liars, scam artists all chasing a quick buck... because on the web, scams pay for themselves instantly.

the problems are easy to identify.

its finding the solution that is hard.

now we are comparing the notion that a child should not need to be monitored when he accesses to Internet to the extermination of Jews???

wow.

JR well, ok.... actually i am an actor and porn just pays the bills until i catch my break... at Dairy Queen where i am the assistant night manager.

++++++++++

Sounds nice, but the reality is that millions of people did nothing as images of genocide in Bosnia were beamed right into their living room. This is very recent history. Complacency and non-intervention became a huge problem after Vietnam.
Yup, when people say we shouldn't be the "policeman of the world," we need bring them back to the world of brutal realities that are no better exemplified than in the WWII atrocities.

Webfather -

Something I noticed a long time ago and have been meaning to tell you, but rarely saw you around...

On your webmastering.com site you talk about the difference between 50% or 1/2 and the following fractions:

500,000/1,000,000
750,000/1,500,000
5,000,000/10,000,000
232/464
2,523/5046
34,476,872,432/17,238,216

Those all look great except for of course the last one which would be an improper fraction.. something like 4 9999/10000...

It should probably be:
34,476,872,432 / 68,953,744,864

Then again, maybe you did it on purpose to prove your point about "SIMPLICITY!!" ;))

Sheer hypocracy to be charging your clients $20 to bag a name dropping while you're blocking them from their accounts where they could reg for $15. And how come they're abusers but you can turn your servers to the same task.... hammering the same registry for compensation and not be an abuser yourself ???

Gord,

Webfather.. domain speculators chew up bandwidth . tie up resources so bad that they choke the registry every am between 4:30 and 8

Sorry you don't agree but its a business decision . if I need to block out 250 abusers for the sake of the stability of the system for the tens of thousands of other clients .. then so be it. I should have cleared this decision with you first??
**********************************
No but maybe you should have cleared it with the 250 people you blocked including myself. I always thought it was volume delays but now find I was blocked deliberately. While you were taking my money. Nowhere did you disclose this. And that my friend smacks of sheer fraud. NOt to mention the names I lost in the drops.

Gord

I regged an expired name on 14th June only for someone else to reg it on the 29th with a different registrar!

After 4 emails I finally got the totally unacceptable reply of "you obviously didnt get the name". You obviously didnt is more like it, despite 2 mails telling you that the whois needed updating.

I would like the name back not the $15 re-credited to my account.

Also I wouldnt mind knowing the success rate at the registration service for $20 a pop.

As good as this piss was the most surreal thing I've seen on the boards in a long time is Dusty. You guys remember his senile musings about this idiot adult son of his named El Presidente? Well El Presidente showed his face on the boards for the first time and he's calling his old man a thief and Dusty's playing it all for sympathy.
Fuck I love the drama of it all. This is Death of A Porno Salesman.

Recently Icann (9/2000) decided to accept applications for new gTLD's, however, they decided only to implement rather inane gTLD's, not alleviating the crowded .com market, and the lack of good names within.

We have decided to arbitrarily offer these new TLD's, as a method of expanding the name space, as it currently exists.

Basically, our position is that Icann did not wish to allow these names into the name space, and we have through an alternate dns system, provided the mechanisms to do that.

I mean if you cherge first, don't give refunds, don't you think the RIGHT thing to do is tell the customer his odds of getting a domain via YOUR system??

In my opinion it is unethical for someone to sell something which they do not have.

Just like some posted earlier about websites ripping off surfers, you are jacking webmasters with fools gold.

ICANN Certification takes more than traffic.... ICANN evaluates people based on many aspects and one of those include business ethics. Would not want to give the keys to the ICANN database to people who are unethical and could do naughty things.

I see all the egotists coming out of the woodwork today ..

Rick..

So what exactly have you contributed to the online world Rick? Your posts read like a hawkster, and when you get called on the carpet you run away , or add a "membership" segment. Seems to me your ass was getting roasted pretty good on your own board not too long ago.

You certainly are full of yourself, DNS was built without a nickel from you in the form of registration fees, where do you get the gall to insinuate that because you don't do business with me, that it is important to the world at large?? Tens of thousands of clients have already made the decision to use DNS without contacting you first, and we service them very well thank you.

I haven't been letting domain speculators abuse our systems for well over a year now, suddenly NOW it becomes an issue?

They don't show registrar loyalty, they eat up bandwidth like crazy hammering the crap out of systems at wee hours of the morning, so they can scoop someones name in the hopes of reselling it to them. Their drop ratios are high as well. We prefer to service clients who will be with us for a long period of time.

We have the resources, we just don't want 3% of the clientele taking 97% of the resources. We feel that our European clients have as much right to access our system during those times, without being bottlenecked. We have sufficient systems in place .. your argument is pure crap. See how fast Tucows runs at that time of day .. they have more resources than us. Slower than molasses..

Rick, your claim to fame is that you managed to have a bit of foresight and grabbed some good names a few years ago. What have you done since, besides preach your own nearsighted prophecies? I think maybe you've been out of touch a bit ..

As far as leaving people in a lurch, I think you'd better explain that comment in a more concise manner. I have no idea what you mean, nor have we left anyone in a lurch to my knowledge.

As to the WIPO thats really none of your business.. I have my positions and I intend to back them up with the same processes that are available to you, when you cry foul on people who do you wrong.

But a cyber bully.. now that is just too rich. Simply because we register names voids our rights to secure what we believe is our business, and our interests therein? Thats a completely ludicrous statement..

might make good fodder for your pulpit at your web board .. but thats the extent of it..

Vick...

you're right...it is important to educate newbies/affiliates...which fits hand in glove with my overall statement.

Even in the nightclub industry, you must educate the people passing out flyers and warn them against spamming cars, lightposts, removing competitors flyers, etc...

there are rules in every game and training is essential. But are people in this industry training beyond affiliate marketing tactics... yes... I see it everyday. And then these same people complain that their revenue is dwindling... ohhh... must be the market... or the weather... or nasdaq... or... maybe it's all the birds you took under your wing... that are stealing your worms today.

Same thing happened in the domain industry.

If you have an opportunity to tap into a new revenue stream, share it with others, perhaps a select few, grow your affiliate base, train your soldiers, lead them to battle...

...don't tell everyone where your arsenal is hidden.

Effective Affiliate Marketing School = Wise

Potential Competitor Breeding School = Stupid

We break new sales records _everyday_ .. so I guess our dinosaur approach model is working. Hows the value of your domain holdings holding up?? :))
*************************************

That is just funny......I am sure you break records everyday.....but that is only because you have been in business a short time. (Less than 2 years)

You preached to get these domain guys and then you left them in the lurch. If you don't have the resources whos problem is that? Funny that you BLAME your own customers for YOUR inadequacy and lack of resources.

On one hand you complain about them then you turn around and you charge folks for getting domains on hold and then don't even provide the service!! What is your ratio of success?? Maybe you should tell domain guys BEFORE you collect their money. Oh yeah....i forgot.....you don't want them anyway.

As for my domain holdings.....I am sure the net worth of my domains could buy and sell DNS MANY times over.

My main issue with you is that RIDICULOUS wipo suit. It is wrong, you have a conflict of interest and it is business decisions like that which is why I can't and won't do business with you and why you are gonna lose a LOT of customers. Think about it!

When did you decide to become a cyber bully? That is what I call folks that try to STEAL domains that don't belong to them and use intimidation to get their property. For a registrar to be engaged in THAT activity is disgusting and appalling. But I doubt you would even take the time to see why I would say such a thing.

You pick and choose which customers are of value to you. Pros believe that ALL customers are important. You got a LOT to learn and this will come back to bite you. imo

I never said I have a problem with the concept of newbies or affiliate marketing, it is here to stay, it was always been here... reselling...promoting...whatever you want to call it... it is effective & vital and everyone involved wins... but creating your COMPETITION is senseless.

Marketshare is KEY.

simple illustration:

I personally love going nightclubbing... I see plenty of flyers everywhere promoting different clubs, events, themes, etc... plenty of people (PassOuts) handing out flyers that offer discounts (avg price in DC is $12). The nightclub I frequent runs like a well-oiled machine, they pay these "PassOuts" less than a dollar for every flyer that returns with their name/sig on it. If they have an uncanny ability to promote quality traffic they are elevated to "Promoter" with their own VIP list at the front door and they receive $1+ for everyone on their list that actually attends...their VIP guestlist gets in for free, but must be "cream" and they $pend money. For the truly gifted ones, they are elevated to "Manager" that pays out $1 for EVERYONE that shows up regardless of list or no list, flyer or no flyer. Then the "Manager" sells memberships for $1000+. This club is beautiful, plenty of content ;-) and fantastic staff that ensures the club is packed every night.

The point of all this...

The nightclub owners don't spend their time teaching these affiliates how to OPEN their own nightclubs and compete head to head. They feed them enough info to get the job done. Win/Win. They do not create their own competition, they already have enough. The owners spend their time making sure the club is the best it can be. They are constantly looking for new performers so clubbers don't get tired of it. And now they are opening their third club. So they will always need affiliates to promote their new ventures.

At least in the nightclub industry, you need to get a license to operate...

The adult industry does not operate this way. People are willing to educate their future competitors instead of focusing on becoming category-killers or "best of breed". We need more people handing out flyers and "quality promoters" but definitely not more competitors. Perhaps people assume that their current revenue streams won't dry up. Perhaps they believe the future is bright. The future is dim and even though the streams may not dry up, they can certainly be diverted. Ever heard of DcP2P... "De-centralized Peer to Peer" networks will eclipse any threat you can imagine. The lure of free music, movies, porn, content promoted thru viral marketing is a formidable opponent.

As I said before...the playground is now a battleground.
