At&T has no way of even knowing which 900 numbers are dialer related.

Really folks.. don't take this the wrong way as I've already got plenty of business... but the dialer market is probably the shadiest bunch that you'll ever have the displeasure of meeting.

Many of the dialer operators NEVER pay... or they do pay the .75/minute that they promise... but at the expense of the surfer for rates up to 7.99/minute.

Dialers are not equal to problems... Dialers from people/companies that don't have an honest rep are almost guaranteed to be a problem.

Just my two words of advice re dialers... & if you want referrals to OTHER companies that ARE reliable... I'll be happy to help :-)

Who cares if stadiums in baseball are empty.. They have 81 home games to make it..

Funny to see them talking about canning possibly the Florida Marlins and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.. Those are probably 2 of the best teams as far as farm systems.. In about 3-5 years those teams will be this years Oakland A's..

Funniest thing is why doesnt Bud Selig get rid of his Brewers? That is one lowsy team!

Colin you may have touched on what is the biggest influence of modern NFL teams. Depth.

Before free-agency NFL teams had backups who were quality players, who could step in and not really miss a beat. Today a few injuries could cause a team to collapse.

What would happen to the Rams if Warner got knocked out for the season?

As much as I feel for cities losing their teams (I grew up on the BALTIMORE COLTS, that was religion)
Baseball has put it's self in the position it is in and this is evolution of the game

"Biggest difference between football and baseball is guaranteed contracts."
Not sure I agree (don't care for baseball, feel it is a sissy sport at best - see bean ball by American League pitchers who don't bat,
Is mostly a game of reflexes - See John Kruk.
On the other hand football is a serious athletic endeavor)
Football has better league management and foresight about the long term well being of the game
See salary cap and league promotion
Baseball owners cared about today and this years profits
How many stadiums were half full this summer?
How many empty seats did you see?
How may NFL teams have a waiting list for season tickets, even with PSL's
Granted baseball plays 162 boring ass games before the playoffs
and football only has 16 contests before the playoffs

It's market economics like anything else
And now you're seeing what the market will bear and where it will collaspe
And for fans who loved their team and lose that team - it sucks!

Vick Where have you gone Joe Dimaggio?
Tue, 23 Oct - 23:03:12 24.180.171.175 Post #: 26131

There's going to be a major piece about the Stillers and their fans in this weeks SI which means they are probably doomed on Monday night. The only teams I've ever seen with fans as nutty are GB, Cleveland, Oakland, and KC. All others are pretenders in the rabid fan category. ;)

Biggest difference between football and baseball is gaurenteed contracts. I think the Pirates are still paying Dave Parker. The Pirates drew well over 2 million last season but that was in a new ballpark but the team stunk. If they don't do something next year their days are numbered.

MrCash, have you been to PNC park? I've been to the jake in cle, camden yards, texas's new field, and this one blows them all away. You really ought to make the trip while we have a team, it's worth it.

Montreal has supported the Expos in the past. Pittsburgh and Montreal used to be huge rivals. Not sure what happened up there but I agree you could here a pin drop there now at a game.

Huzinga screwed the Floria fans royally. nuff said there

My argument still stands though that as there are less markets with viable MLB teams the worse it is for MLB baseball. Local fans want a LOCAL team so they will move towards minor league baseball, college, etc. If all that are left are NY, Chi, LA, etc. will anyone in "fly over" country really care?

Ulfie..I agree.
After living in Pittsburgh for 10 years you really see what a true fan is.

I was not a steeler fan before moving there but became one fast and will be one for ever.

sport is Pittsburgh is more like a religious experience =)

It would be a sad day indeed if they were to lose the Pirates after over 100 years (even though they cannot compete I still painfully watch the games)

First it is the Marlins and Expos....then your home team.
MrCash Are You Ready?
Tue, 23 Oct - 21:54:00 65.35.95.62 Post #: 26128

Ulfie, probably, but in Montreal, the fans haven't been supporting their team...again, I'm not looking forward to them or the Marlins folding, I just feel that in Montreal the fans should support their team better if they want to keep it and the Marlins fans are scarred by the actions of a previous owner...if Ted Turner had done the same thing with the Braves, I'd probably have to seek another team to follow as well... (well, actually, now it would be Time/Warner)

Sykk, I submit your position would be different if it was the Braves that went bye-bye. (I mean just folded, not moved somewhere) Yeah, you would probably still follow baseball but not as closely as you once did. We lost our team 10 years ago even though they are still here. ;)

Ulfie, I wasn't bidding them good riddance, it's just that if the city of Montreal doesn't support the team, why should the team stick around? In the case of the Marlins, here was a team that had an owner that basically told the fans to fuck off after he got his much cherished championship ring.

I think that does more damage to the game than a spoiled millionaire ballplayer.

I understand the regional loyalty, but with me, I'm just a fan of baseball, be it the little leagues, minor leagues or the pros. I happen to like the Braves because when I was a kid and we first got cable, TBS was one of the stations, so I got to watch the Braves play all the time. I stuck with them through the shit years and have really enjoyed the winning years, but I'll always enjoy the battle of pitcher against batter.

Believe me, I believe in capitalism and don't begrudge people making a lot of money. The point that people miss about sports is it is not a business that is analogous to corporate America. If Walmart drives most of their competitors out of business you will be left with 3 or 4 huge chains and by and large people will be happy with them. People have very little regional loyalty to their superstore. If the Pirates, Steelers, or Penguins ever leave town, however, I just won't watch anymore because I don't care about any other teams. I have a FIERCE loyalty to my local teams.

In baseball we are headed towards a system where very few teams can be competitive and economically viable at the same time. If the Yankees, Braves, etc. force out the Pirates, Expos, Marlins, Brewers, Royals, etc. you are left with very few markets with interest in baseball as a whole. I wouldn't watch the Yankees if Osama was pitching for them because I could care less about them. To people that say good riddens to the Expos and Marlins I say there go a bunch of people that used to buy merchandise, watch games on TV, travel to road games, etc. that you will probably not see back anytime soon.

Sorry for the long post but I think this is something people never take into consideration.

Colin you may have touched on what is the biggest influence of modern NFL teams. Depth.

Before free-agency NFL teams had backups who were quality players, who could step in and not really miss a beat. Today a few injuries could cause a team to collapse.

What would happen to the Rams if Warner got knocked out for the season?

umm, mutt, you have the Patriots listed as going against the Rams, when it should be the Saints ;))
just a head's up...

As for the Marlins and Expos leaving...well, the Wayne Herzinga (sp?) fucked the Marlins when he went out and bought up a bunch of great players, got his championship, then decimated the team...why should Florida fans care after something like that? It shows a disdain for the fans, same went for the Padres when Carsey-Werner owned them and had the firesale, then turned around and sold the team for a whopping profit...and the Expos have always had good players, but they can' bring anyone to the ballpark, small market or large, if the fans aren't filling the seats, then the team can't make money. Maybe Montreal just isn't a baseball city.

Baltimore had a consistently high payroll there for a couple years and it did them no good...

I also agree with players getting as much money as the market will bear. The best should be paid the best. While some fans complain about millionaire players, they don't mind the billionaire owners ;)

Dallas won three in the 90's.
Denver won in 1998, 1999.

It's only been a few years since last back to back champion.

I agree that the Rams seem head and tails ahead of everyone else. Stay healthy and together and they could fill that definition.

I think parity is reflected that there are no dominate dynasties in the NFL any longer. One team my have a good year, but cannot string together multible championships.

There is NO dominate NFL team with the exception of the Rams...

KK - this explains why you cheer for Duke and Florida State.

i think you're right Colin. It's all perception.
I'm also hearing alot of sports guys
talking about a wider gulf between good and bad teams and how there are more absolutely horrid teams this year.
I think it's because Dallas and Washington are so bad that it's leaving such an impression on people.

Parity in the NFL? Tell that to Carolina, Detroit, Washington, Dallas, KC, and Buffalo!

Seriously, the team records look like they distribute just about the same as they do every year. I must admit that I too feel like there is more "parity" than normal.

I think that is because last year's very good teams are all around break-even and some of last years so-so teams are at the top.

Increasing parity would mean fewer excellent and horrible teams. There's one team without a win and one without a loss. I would guess that's normal for this time of year.
Then there are 4 teams with one loss and 5 with one win. All seems kinda normal.

I dunno how one would measure parity outside of distribution of wins and losses.
