Regarding the surfers to adult resource sites topic. Just did some digging in my stats.

Top search engine terms to get to AOE. (Mix and match to find the obvious word combinations.)

adult 20.74%
webmaster 10.06%
resources 6.61%
boards 3.81%
message .99%
board 1.08%
news 0.54%
industry 0.52%
resource 0.48%

... Not a surfer term in the bunch. No "pics" no "porn" no "free", etc ....

Ditto, just looked at my top 500 referrals .... A who's who list of the industry's resource sites, content providers, hosts, sponsors, traffic site submission pages, etc ..... Not a single surfer-based anything.

As I've always said its not just pure numbers, but the quality of the numbers.

More than anything it is a customer support issue...and backup traffic typically isn't as "clean". But we really don't receive to many complaints on the policy once clients are setup...and our merchant banks love it ; )

It's kinda hard to complain about Jettis. Even the primary/secondary issue they work around if they know you're not gonna be getting them in trouble (which is easy to do..who wants shit signups rejected by ccbill?).

My complaint would be John Skorick's ICQ client takes 5 minutes to accept a message so the stupid window hangs on your taskbar forever...

Side note : Info is still being gathered, but in our case it looks like ccbill may retain better than ibill. Jury is still out...

I can tell you why I haven't ever used Jettis...

When I explored them a while back, their contract required that they always be the primary processor, and they wanted to approve your secondary processor. That's a bit too heavy handed.

I wont put my business in a position of building a recurring base of users with a processor, who does not give me the right to switch to another processor at will in the event of problems. Sure, I could switch anyway, but I would be in violation of the terms of the contract and consequently risking losing that recurring base.

I don't sign agreements I'm not fully prepared to honor. I wont sign away my right to point my join pages wherever I so desire.

No problem Jim --

No one is perfect, not us or IBill --

IBill pays on time and in full, that's never been a question and as long as they continue to do so, we'll continue to recommend them to our customers for alternate processing.

Always good to have an alternative, things aren't always the way we like them.

If you have any questions about things that happen when you do use CCBill for primary, drop me an email -- kim@ccbill.com -- I'll be glad to go over the numbers with you for your account privately, including declines :)

And actually, when I was thinking about referrers, really wasn't considering surfer traffic as it's never been an issue with us. One advantage to using several domains I guess.

Of course, several disadvantages to using multiple domains too :)

PetrA, it DOES work,
cookies is NOT the only way they measure stats.

Their numbers are VERY close to KC's and Netscape numbers (actually Netscape is lower)

Petr,
The day you informed me about that, is the day we started working on it.

It was a very appreciated suggestion, and should be also working fully in the coming days.

We are set to release "SexCounter The End Generation" by end of this year, with everything in statistics one can possibly imagine.

Along with a nice giveaway that is about to be announced (and has been promised for some time now).

Snoops...Anytime ;-)

Nick mentioned specifically that he advised password-protecting the referrer stats.
***********************

Dondrea,
we personally don't give a flying fuck about refferals, but I understand clearly where you coming from.

Oprano has a small advantage over everybody in this department-
Oprano.com is NEVER visited by surfers

Tukhman,

SexCounter still does not work in MSIE 6.x because it's not P3P compliant. That means all cookies are blocked from SexCounter.

What about having referers to?
********************************

Moose, if SexCounter doesn't do it-
KC will beat him to it,
if KC and Sexcounter drops the ball-
we have Netscape counter where sponsors can see the refferals....

I am not worried

thanx Nick for the phone conversation and you too serge :)

About referrers - I'm not sure that's a good idea. Resource centers share info, links all sorts of stuff - but it's still competition....dunno, Nick mentioned specifically that he advised password-protecting the referrer stats.

I'd be curious to hear others' thoughts on it.

Allien,
have you ever wondered that Oprano enjoys great relations with ALL popular boards out there:
TopNiche, Tom's Newbie Booster, Voltar's but not with the board you moderate?
Serge who keeps YOU honest? who keeps THEM honest? who tells you about your traffic?

Moose,
I remember that SexCounter didn't have refer stats about 3 months ago ;-)

I think it pretty much has everything right, and still in major upgrade mode.

What about having referers to? Counting the hits is one thing, but seeing where the traffic is coming from is another.

(just based on rumors on this board that some resources are piling surfer traffic into the pages)

Dondrea,
thanks again to your call,
I asked Tukhman immediatelly and this is the answer I got:

RusskySerge: (3:05 PM) Dondrea just called, are we combining ALL the pages?

she says we use the same code on ALL sites!
Tukhman: (3:06 PM) yes, because you signed up to Site Counter, which is the same code but on all pages...

RusskySerge: (3:06 PM) so, how can we fix that?

how can we differentiate thru the different pages?
Tukhman: (3:09 PM) hmm
let me see why "pages" stats is now showing up for you
the only stats that our counters doesn't offer and it seems not to work for you
i'll figure it out =)))

RusskySerge: (3:09 PM) thanks!

Tukhman: (3:10 PM) not a problem
that just pissed me off ;-)))

Tukhman: (3:11 PM) btw, you made $10.80 from using our counter! =)

RusskySerge: (3:11 PM) keep it!
;-)))

Tukhman: (3:11 PM) lol

Tukhman: (3:11 PM) serge, you have any banner spots available?

RusskySerge: (3:12 PM) only on side pages
;-(((

Tukhman: (3:13 PM) ;-((
keep me in the loop if you get...i'd love to grab a good spot..

RusskySerge: (3:13 PM) OK, I DEFINATELLY will!

Tukhman: (3:14 PM) gracias =)

Dondrea,
this is an unedited version, right from the horce's mouth,
I expect the problem to be fixed SHORTLY.

Snoops,
SexCounter offers "Pages" statistics, which is quiet innovative around adult industry counter, however for Oprano it seems to be a little messed up right now, I'll have it fixed =)

Ok, per Serge's instructions <g> I'm posing this q on the board :)

NOT an attack - valid question so I know how to compare apples to apples.

*Apparently* the sexcounter counter is counting several pages on Oprano (board, front page, morons & pearls)

I'm not familiar with sexcounter, but I can't find a way on their stats (by clicking their button up there) to get page by page breakdown.

The other counter - paycounter - is apparently using different codes for each page thereby tracking pages individually.

So, I guess I'm asking for clarification as to what is being counted by who so Tweet & I have info needed to move forward :)

Doesn't matter to me which way it's done, just would like to know so if we do decide to do this - it's an equal comparative :)

Serge, do you think any other boards are going to open their 3rd party stats to the public?
******************************

how much do you wanna bet that they won't????

stats will revela what we know already-
they have more surfers traffic than webmasters traffic.

for some operators
Webmaster resources is a piece of bread the'd die for,
we, despite the losses in the stock market,
cherish the truth and integrity over "any confusion, or shenangans"

I think my bet is VERY safe

Ohh, and I am not breaking the law I am using it like anyone else should.

The more you should read about trademark law and the internet the more you will know the power of Standard business practice.

Oprano should be trademarked.
Any adult webmaster that runs a site should trademark there domain.
Otherwise they are not practicing good business standards.

In regards to Sex.COM, such a very very very interesting case it blows door's off Internet Law and did set precidence to future cases.

The power of tradmark is more powerful than the damn domain.
A domain is not a property nor title and truly has no value unless backed by proper business practice.

KB what is your opinion of this?? Think it is a good thing? Would you trust these stats rather then some 7,000 figure which no one shows a basis for?

I am saying I have not recieved a C&D yet.
No C&D has been recieved.

I am serious though. If I were to know who else claims the trademark or is attempting to trademark it that would be really helpful.

I see 5 people at the USPTO relating to "Youknowwhat".biz. Each have been denied the Tradmark.
