From somewhere else ...

"In fact, there was one inventor of electronic television. Video as we now know it first took root in the mind of Philo T. Farnsworth, and he was the first to successfully demonstrate the principal, in San Francisco on Sept 7, 1927. If you need to fix a date on which television arrived, that's the date.

Unfortunately, the historical record is not quite so clear. More often the date that is cited is 1923. Pick up almost any encyclopedia and it will tell you that "Vladimir Zworykin invented the Iconoscope for RCA in 1923." Using that date fixes Zworykin's name before Farnsworth, and usually renders Farnsworth to the status of "another contributor" in the field. That ain't the way it happened.

"

"As early as 1892, Nikola Tesla created a basic design for radio."

The Popov radio appears later ;)

The debate still rages beteen Farnsworth and Zworykin aa inventor of the television though the case for Farnsworth seems to me to be the stronger case.

Who opposes Al Gore as inventor of the internet?!!!!

Serge .. we're not talking about what *I* believe? Who invented the radio? I believe that Tesla did. The TRUTH is that Tesla invented radio first. NOW, what is the answer on Jeopardy? Probably Marconi. I know many examples where my belief, based upon second hand reports of primary source documents differs from answer of History Books.

Personally, *I* believe that AH invented click through program. Always have. What is the correct answer on Jeopardy?

Ask me who INVENTED toplist? My answer is Cliffy's. It comes down to what you define as "invented". Jim has a different definition of invention than you might have.

My debate is not over differing versions of history. I am talking about differing definitions of "invented" and "discovered"?

Did Columbus DISOVER America? Yes or no, depending on your definiton of discover. If you think Discover means first one to see the land, the answer is no. If you say the first European to have sailed, discovered, and popularized it in such a way that more people followed him immediately, then the answer is yes.

If you mean first to have conceptualized it .. the first person might be Cliffy or someone else. If you say first to have it active, then answer is Ynot.

Again, I just say that differenig definitions of "discover" and "invention" lead one to different answers. One is not better than another.

How does one resolve this quandary?
**********************************

Colin,
I haven't seen anybody besides FM and CE employees to claim that they were the first.

They even quote WRITTEN statement from AH on his site that FM was first, but....
AH did it after 2 things
1) law suit from FM he didn't need
2) discovering that webmasters are 95% whores and sell their own mothers for .1 cent.
By that time he didn't need webmasters, he KNEW where the REAL money are and had long term contracts with major Search Engines.
He proved his VISION to be correct, as he has much less webmasters in his proggy, but collects the biggest revenues of them all.

Now when he can't care less about FM's law suit, he reveals WHO and WHY and under what circumstances, as he can buy CE with his left pocket change.

Will you believe that Hitler commited no genocide if you see it written in
"The Worl History according to Taliban"?

Will you believe the biblical mother who claimed to Solomon that the child is not hers and should be given to another woman instead of cut in half?

Would you believe me who wrote that sexia.com is NOT rightfully mine in court documents?

Serge,

It comes down to perceptions. The question is what do people believe? Most people think of Marconi as inventor of radio though it seems he was second in reality. It is TAUGHT and WRITTEN that Marconi invented radio, yet he was not first. History (people's perceptions of it) carries the message that Marconi invented radio.

Who invented the radio? One can only say .. Tesla was the first to produce a working radio. At a slightly later date, Marconi produced one and with greated financing and popularity, was credited with invention of radio.

Which inventors name wins on Jeopardy?

I've seen this debate for years about inventor of click program. My guess is that most people, after having viewed the debates come away saying "AH or CE". There's my 50/50.
AH = Tesla
CE = Marconi

Which one wins on Jeopardy.

*I* think that Tesla should be given full credit for inventor of the radio. If I were taking a test in grade school, my answer would be Marconi though!

How does one resolve this quandary?

This debate is like who invented the radio or who invented Calculus.

Marconi or Tesla
Newton or Leibnitz

Each school of thought has their own claim based their own reasoning.

Leibnitz may have invented calculus before/same time as Newton but Newton made it to press first.
http://www.kirjasto.sci.fi/leibnitz.htm

Marconi or Tesla?
http://www.mercury.gr/tesla/marcen.html

You guys can go on and on .. but in the end, Cliffy's had more press in the beginning .. everyone knew about Cliffy's. Cliffy's got BIG. Cliffy's wins in the History books and Ynot becomes historical footnote. When asked, no matter how many times people show up to say the contrary, most people remember Cliffy's.

As far as per pay program, I think AH and CE were only two choices when I arrived. They were both already here. AH was paying .02. I think I remember CE raising to .03 and that being a big deal! They had a picture of three pennies together on the stats page!

That debate seems to be 50/50 in History Books. And memories and debates seem to keep it around 50/50.

History is often about what people remember. History is often about story-telling and tales handed down from generation to generation until someone finally writes it down.

These are tales. Who will write the Official History and make it jump from memories to real?

Biggest innovation in porn business?
Pay per click programs! HAS TO BE!
*************************************

hahahahahahaha,
it was NOT exactly adult invention.

The history behind this one is:

1) COTAC was selling traffic to Amateur Hardcore, IOL, ClubLove based on fixed price per week.
I heard on the radio that Yahoo! started selling traffic to Procter and Gamble based upon click thru, that was NEW!
I called my partners and we agreed selling traffic to AH based upon click thru too, at 5 cents per click, same as Yahoo.
Al Hadhazy loved the idea, it was going on for a week, untill we disagreed on click counts.
I gave Al Hadhazy the ultimatum, either he goes with our counts, or we take the banners down.

He thought we were bluffing, he was paying us $550 a day, big money in 1996, but...we took the banners out and he lost 80% of his traffic overnite.

This got him so pissed, that few months later he introduced FIRST click thru proggy and directed it for general population.

That's how the FIRST click thru proggy EVER was created.

2) WHAT WENT WRONG?????
========================

AH has a very good fraud management system in place,
bot was checking links on the daily basis and any deviation from offcial text language or banners resulted in suspension of payments, thus making ANY fraud counter productive.

Late comers like FM introduced their versions of click proggy, with ZERO fraud protection, can you believe that he was paying based upon server stats and raws?

School boys could defraud his click thru
;-)))

He was losing money, but gaining market share as folks were scared by AH's strict linkage rules and FM was a "pussycat" for a quick buck.

He opened the doors for fraud, showing the world how easy it was to make a killing overnite by just being "un-prudent".

Per sign up/productivity pay out schemes invited even more fraud, as every CC numbers generators were busy at work defrauding the systems, thus inviting back charges
and other negative processing developments
("your credit card will never be charge" haven't helped the matters either.)

I bet that if the original scheme and tight ship like AH's click thru proggy were in place today-
back charges wouldn't be so rampant.

but....this is somethign we'll never know

Colin
YNOT was before Cliffy as far as toplists.

YNOT also had the first TGP, Premier Pictures for members only.

And I agree about the biggest innovation.

Colin,
Cliffie was the FIRST and not only in Top 50 business.

Do you know that Cliffie set up The First Ever adult webmasters chat board?

Those who remember that and the reason for it-
raise your hands!
;-))

FM, there was rumor that you were involved behind the scenes...as a direct beneficiary of Cliffie's action.

I am not 100% sure, though, about your involvement

Yup .. Cliffy's is the first I remember also. I think Serge has said in the past that there was one that was older (?) but i wasn't around before that.

Cliffy's was certainly the first one anyone knew about.

I think i was in junior high or high scholl when I saw it. Kinda freaked me out a bit too. Though not nearly as much as seeing Jaws when I was like 5 or 6 though. jaws still has an effect on me today as an adult. I refuse to swim in the ocean and subject myself to being fish food. :>))

My best guesses ...

>>> Who owned the first "top list"?
I'd say either Cliffie or Adult Origin. I think Colin or Fold would know the correct answer.

>>>> Who owned the first "pic post"?
>> Bob from UK with picturepost.com ?
Is Bob also known as Bobajob? If so, then yeah, I think it was either him or DJ-JD.

>> Who owned the first "TGP"?
Hmmm. If one is not counting the actual usage of the name "TGP" but its basic functionality, then I'd say The Hun. If one is counting the actual usage of the name "TGP", then probably Adult Buffet.

>>> What was the biggest innovation in the entire porn business?
So many to list as possibilities as "the biggest" ... but I see one biggie not yet mentioned and which mainstream still doesn't get: Sending exit traffic to competitors.

Agreed mutt.. we need to isolate what exactly the scope of the discussion is.

I mean.. the question itself didn't even specify "internet porn".. just "porn".. so i'd actually have to vote for "film" or "vhs" in that case.

If we are going beyond the basics i'd say that spam was the biggest innovation.

hmmmmmmm.........i think the poll should be more about the traffic game/competition amongst webmasters.
Cuz if u open it up to everything of course recurrent billing and the ability to process credit cards online will win......and if you go further then you have to consider JPG's and MPG's and then streaming video, webcams............which ultimately leads you to the greatest innovation of all time is the VAGINA!

Without the vagina there is nothing.

maybe a few additions:
recur billing
shaving (while looked down upon for obvious reasons, it was innovative...unless we're only looking for positive innovations)
third-party billing
