Grimm I read that article, and find that as good news. They are making it easier to find the scud missles and bomb them. These guys have no idea how to fight a war, or what could possibly come from the US and our allies.
The Talban does not even have control of their own country - what can of offensive could they really mount? I imagine they probably have wrecked their airforce, and commerical planes.

===========================
Personal loss? All Americans suffered a personal loss. To our freedom. Think about it. Who hasn't thought twice of taking a plane? Or, I'm sad to even mention, look at people with preconceived notions due to their race or religon? I was one of those, till I was reminded by Nick of WWII internment camps. Hatred and revenge made me overlook. That to me, I consider an almost personal loss.
Lves were lost, but they struck deeper than that. I don't expect you to see it Lee, all you care about is your agenda.
MikeW, Yer pic made me bust out laughing, thanks for it.

Pakisani delegation into aghanistan must not have gone well..
KHYBER PASS, Pakistan (Reuters) - Afghanistan (news - web sites)'s Taliban rulers have moved a large arsenal of weapons, including Russian Scud missiles, to positions near the border with Pakistan, a Pakistani army officer said Monday.
``We are already prepared, we are ready to defend the motherland,'' Captain Abid Bahtti told reporters, speaking at an army checkpoint just 2.5 km (one mile) from the border with Afghanistan. ``The Pakistan border is very secure.''
Asked if the situation was warlike, Bahtti said: ''Definitely, but it is not a declared war.''
Root of terrorism
In light of Georgia Republican Rep. Bob Barr's bill to lift
the ban on U.S.-sponsored assassinations, and thus eliminate
the threat of terrorists such as Osama bin Laden, we thought
it a good time to remember the meaning -- and ironic origin --
of "assassin," as defined in Webster's Ninth New Collegiate
Dictionary:
"assassin: 1) one of a secret order of Muslims that at the
time of the Crusades terrorized Christians and other enemies
by secret murder "

I may need some volunteers in the next few days. As some of you may know me, I just opened a new company called www.autoskins.com
One of my clients who is a large cell phone company was called to set up a mobile communication center for the workers at the WTC to use and have a place to sit down and call a loved one.
We are bringing up a Winnebego with phones and will just need people to hang out and make sure everything goes cool.
If your interested, just drop me an email and I will put you down.
Mike W, I am with you! In no way at all do I think the photo you made hurts any of the victems of their families. Infact some of them would probably find it amusing.

I do think the photo is funny, in a shocking kind of way. It is even funnier since we all know and love Serge.
The photo also does not take away from the people and victems of these attacks.
I am making some t-shirts, I am trying to find the perfect slogan for the back of it. Bascily the photo will be bin-laden with a cross hair on him.
So far teh slogans I have are:
1) If you run, you will only die tired.
2) Something from Pulp Fiction "The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity
and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down
upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord
when I lay my vengeance upon thee."
Which of course is too long for a t-shirt, though a shortened version could be good...
Anyone else have ideas for the slogan for this t-shirt??

During the start of Desert Storm, my roommates and I ( I was in undergrad) designed and printed t-shirts which have Uncle Sam, bedning Sadam Hussein over - sodomozing him - while waving th V for victory sign. on top it had Fuq Iraq, and on the front of the shirt we had "make love, not war"
The shirt represnted many things - I dug out one of the origninals I saved and wore it to Houston.
10 years ago, I would have people come bad pat me on the back and talk about it. The main reason I wanted to be contraversial 10 year ago was to confront the liberal, hippie students who were protesting and chanting " No blood for oil"... I was trying to get them to say something to me.... never did happen.
Right now HiRise/Oprano is designing a similiar shirt which will be pro USA, anti Bin Laden... I will be proud to wear it!

Wow, another spot of bad news...B-movie producer extraordinaire Samuel Arkoff (most notably of AIP Pictures) died today.
Arkoff produced some of the best sci-fi, cheesy b-movies, beach movies, blaxploitation movies, and horror movies of all time. He was responsible for "Amityville Horror", "The Abominable Dr. Phibes", "Last House On The Left " (he picked up the distribution rights when no one else would and gave birth to Wes Craven ("The Nightmare On Elm Street" series) and Sean Cunningham's ("Friday The 13th" series") careers), "Beach Blanket Bingo", "The Amazing Collasus Man", "Blacula", etc.
While not as tragic as the events of this past week (he did live to the ripe old age of 87) it is a sad time for movie geeks as producers of his nature are no longer a part of Hollywood.

cj, yeah eyes burning too......... i didn't hear about the dogs being depressed about not finding anybody.... i believe it. They KNOW alot more than people think. Dogs, smart ones anyways, they say are about on the same intellectual level as a four year old human. But they grasp certain things more than a four year old, like danger and maybe
grief.
So when you see a dog sleeping all day long, remember, he/she is only conserving energy so he will be ready and prepared to launch into action when she is needed :)
Also learned something I have never heard about, they are using trained cats in the rescue. Never heard of trained police cats. My guess is they are working as grief counsellors.

mutt, not only are the dogs getting cut feet and so on, their eyes are also getting burned from the dust and debris just like the human hero's. I also read somewhere mention of depressed dogs - these dogs are trained to find humans, when they do their job they need reward - in a scenario as desperate as the rescue sight, the dog's aren't fooled by a meat treat. they know that even though they did their job, everyone still isn't happy :-(
I saw a pic the other day that I can't find (how many news pages in the history?!?) its of one of the dogs and his police man asleep together on their break. does anyone know where that pic is?

God knows if they really have a clue what's going on but being a dog lover they do understand despair and recognize trouble and will sacrifice to help. Webdad, point taken. My father-in-law served in WWII, as part of the cleanup crew in liberated Germany, and he always *hated* the Red Cross. He said they (poor foot soldiers...the janitors of the military) were sold goods by the Red Cross(albeit at a slight discount), whereas the Salvation Army *gave* everything to them.
Then again, I guess if any organization is trying to help, then they are trying to help, so tis good. The Firefighters' Fund seems to be a more immediate need, though, since those fallen brave souls were also fathers and husbands, and their families are now faced with not only emotional wreckage but an uncertain financial future as well.
And then there are the families of those poor, poor people... Every one of their stories is so damned sad. I'd suggest Osama been Lyin be tied to a chair and forced to watch their pain, but the soulless bastard wouldn't care anyway.
Anyone see Khadafy this morning denouncing the bombing and saying the US had the right to protect its interests? Things that make you go hmmmmm.

Like the American Red Cross that take every opportunity at disasters. The American Red Cross are the WORST offenders. They provide just the bare minimum services to fool folks into giving money that they WASTE on "Administration costs" and seldom given to the victims. I HATE those type folks!
On the otherhand.....There were firemen (The TRUE heros) on the corner yesterday with their hats in hand. I stopped at the light and called one over. I threw in $100 and watched his face light up. It felt good and I KNOW it would go to the VICTIMS and not to line the pocket of some asshole.

I agree, Mike, the only difference of opinion I'd have is that the problem is fundamentalism of any sort - change the subject nouns in speeches by the Taleban, Jerry Falwellian and Pat Robertshit, and the Council of Material Physicists Against Anthropics, and you'd have a hard time telling them apart.
As for the European "allies", just read some mild backpedaling by some of them. The only one, as ever, sticking solidly by our side is the only one that ever really does, god bless her.
They're worried about our creating "thousands of bin Ladens" -don't they realize that 9/11/01 already did that? Caution and consideration will be taken...we're not just sedulous apes over here (well, none of us not members of the bar). Nobody wants these morons starting nuclear freebasing or something, but if we don't do something, the next hit will be an airborne anthrax assault, and we'll have a million dead.

Something I'm wondering, Not being privy to preparations for war
(and I think the press should back off a little)
Why are we (the USA) not enlisting more Muslim nations?
We have Turkey as a NATO member and ally and as long as we can muster support from other Muslim nations a Holy War can be prevented
We have persuaded Pakistan into aiding us
We will have to prop Turkey up economically
" On Friday the World Bank signed an agreement with Turkey for a $500 million loan to ease the effects of the crisis on low-income Turks. But Turkey's plans to ask for more cash from the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank - on top of $15.7 billion in recovery loans already promised - are now in doubt."

You mean the same French who refused to allow us fly-over access to save our hostages? Those French? Gee, what a freaking shock. Not. Most on grateful bast... Um, Better not get me started ...
>>> The government has asked for less restrictions in applying wire taps to suspected terrorists - The ACLU has immeadiatly challanged this request.
One difference between the American people and the ACLU is our moods switch. I think most Americans are in this State of War we are now in, and we are in one, willing to give up certain "liberties" in the pursuit of the common good. The ACLU by this and by the earlier mentioned restrictions on airport security, are not.
Sometimes I agree with the ACLU. Sometims I do not. I will say one thing for them, for good or bad, they do not break, they do not bend from their stance.
>>> Public stances are not always private opinions
True, Mel. And as we know from both our country's past leaders and the rulers of other country's present and past ... the will of a government is not the will of the people. I remember how Russians (the people) liked Americans and wanted blue jeans and Madonna records during the latter end of the Cold War as just one example.

The French have very old ties to the middle east. They're having to dance a delicate somba right now. They'll also be a valuable intelligence conduit because of that. Public stances are not always private opinions.
The US itself has clucked its tongue about Chechnya, but we've been aiding the Russians with intelligence for quite awhile, simply because bin Laden is behind that mess, too.
Way to go, Webdad!!!
BTW, I don't think the moron count is *that* high, more like in the high millions (before Tuesday, I'd have added sarcastically, "not counting Congress").

The Bad News Bears could roll over the French in a day. An American bicyclist with one nut off his death bed beats them at their national sport. F em.

I would rather have the french in word than deed. Theya re like a silent partner, just let them sign off on it and stand back.

Watching CNN I had to throw this out
The government has asked for less restrictions in applying wire taps to suspected terrorists - The ACLU has immeadiatly challanged this request.
I don't actually believe that the government is not taping any conversation they want to. They just tell us they can't.

From the CNN site: "French President Jacques Chirac, who is not always foremost in his praise of all
things American, told CNN: “When it comes to punishing this murderous folly, France will be at the side
of the United States.”

Fastest way to piss off the French, kill a French National. France also lost people in the WTC. They'll be there for us. I'd bet a lot of them are having bad flashbacks to WWII after seeing all the images coming out of NY.
