Little C, and Serge I think this is a misunderstanding that is being dragged out on Oprano which is in the US - while Serge is in Turkey, and Little C in Amsterdam...

Please bring it to e-mail, and work through me - there is no reason this shuold be going on, we are all on the same page - just some miscommunications... it happens sometimes.

I find it ammusing that the Talban are threatening their neighbors. This from people who do not even have full control of their own country - how are they going to stage an invasion?

I know I'm a little off base in my comments.. Emotions get a hold..

Tough to see the good folks pics who were on those planes coming out on the news. Lot of really decent good looking people. Really makes you wonder.

Realize our response must be targeted and specific. See pics of Palastinian and other Arabs in their homeland and see the fear on their face. They are innocent folks like we were and we must avoid innocent casualties as best we can.

Not gonna be easy to root out terrorism and still avoid innocent people.

Kind of difficult being human the last few days. IF there is a God, he/she/it has to be shaking "its head" lately. I know I wouldn't want to be in 6+ Billion lives at once.

What a world. I'll keep my distance.
My days of running with "the pack" are thankfully over.

The greatest thing you will do today is to get through till tomorrow.

Good night. Have a good day.

Just so people don't go thinking it is doomsday or anything...

"SINGAPORE, Sept 13 (Reuters) - Internet chat rooms are abuzz with talk that 16th century French astrologer Nostradamus forecast the attack on the World Trade Center in New York.

Thousands of people have received e-mails containing this prophecy, often with a second part forecasting that the attack on the twin towers will mark the beginning of World War III.

Several versions are doing the rounds. This is one of them:

"In the year of the new century and nine months

From the sky will come a great King of Terror

The sky will burn at forty-five degrees

Fire approaches the new city."

The text corresponds roughly to a verse in Nostradamus's Century (section) Six, Quatrain 97. Several books on Nostradamus have speculated that this quatrain's first line refers to September 2001, the ninth month in the first year of the new century, while the 45 degrees is interpreted as the latitude of the city of New York.

But New York lies just below 41 degrees latitude and Nostradamus's verse does not mention a great war, contrary to what several e-mails say. In many e-mails, the verse comes with a second part, which seems harder to link to Nostradamus:

"In the city of York there will be a great collapse

Two twin brothers torn apart by chaos

While the fortress falls the great leader will succumb

Third big war will begin when the big city is burning."

HOAXSTRADAMUS?

"(This second quatrain) is NOT by Nostradamus," read a statement on www.nostradamus-repository.org, a Web site for Nostradamus study.

Hoax or not, various versions of the verse are being forwarded by the thousands every day.

"Initially, I was really sceptical, but I went to the web to look up something on (Nostradamus). Some prophecies have come true," Agnes Ng, a 23-year old Singaporean accountancy student, told Reuters on Thursday.

She received one of the prophecies in an e-mail from a friend. Before forwarding the message to her contacts, she posted a copy on Usenet newsgroup alt.prophecies.nostradamus. The e-mail she received was even more specific, forecasting that:

"The big war will begin when the big city is burning

on the 11th day of the 9th month that...

two metal birds would crash into two tall statues

in the new city and the world will end soon after."

One of the newsgroup contributors who goes by the e-mail moniker of "Justaguy" said this was a fake.

"It has been posted ad nauseam," he said.

Nostradamus prophecies surface after nearly every major news event. False or real, they struck a chord in Singapore.

Bookstore salespeople told Reuters there had been strong demand for books on Nostradamus since Tuesday's attacks. "

It's good to read Nostradamus then again but seriously any of you want to know your future I am sure my girl or Sykkboy can do some great Tarot for you all:)

Quite honestly I think if we stood back and let the Air force control the air and just bomb the hell out of ALL those countries for a however long we could take over the ENTIRE middle east in 2 weeks. And we just MIGHT!

Kinder, Gentler Catman ;-)

The Talibans are worried on two fronts... first that we might make them a dust slick, and second, that the forces they are fighting in their civil war will take advantage of us attacking them, which is surely the case.

I think this is only going to be handled by going after everyone and finishing the job. Unfortunately, it will probably only be _us_ doing it. And people wonder why the west gets no respect.

It really pisses me off that we do so much for so many nations and they are willing to sit on their asses yet again and let us be the one who cleans up.
The EU is trying to be a "big boy", yet they have managed to make themselves an even bigger pain-in-the-ass. They _want_ the power, but do not want to _pay_ for it.

Grimm and Mike,

I have wondered that myself. We have become such a society of quick-fixes, and instant solutions, and also short attention spans, that we might not be able to stick it out.
I guess that is where the government must do the right things, regardless of how our public opinion ebbs and flows.

I am in Houston, had to drive for a wedding...

It is good to be with family, but I have been watching some TV tonight - seeing the family members of people who are missing in NY... IT has really effected me! I hope people remember this, and can reflect back upon this when we get into a long term drawn out sustained conflict to wipe out terrorists ( There will be some pain, we will have losses, terrorsits may strike back at us, there will be some civillian causalties - BUT IT NEEDS TO BE DONE)

I was talking to my older family members telling them that I am worried that our generation, the younger people do not have the resolve and BALLS to stick through and sacrifice for a long term war. They said that in the late 30s and 40s Hitler and Japan both commented that American's were playboys and were weak and not interested in fighting. Obviously they were wrong...

I hope my relatives are right, I pray we are strong and resolved as a nation to do what we need to do to secure our safety, and our freedom and those of our future generations.

A webmaster signed up for one of my sponsors and cancelled 64 hours into a 3 day trial membership. keep in mind that there are 72 hours in 3 days.

After they cancelled, they were told that their membership at recurred to a full membership. The webmaster told customer service that he/she would charge it back if they didn't refund the full membership amount. They refuse to give a refund.

The person cancelled in 64 hours because they even acknowledge it a letter.

They reference to this:

A 3-day trial membership will renew to a full membership 48 hours after signup. Membership will not be renewed if subscriber cancels within initial 48 hours and can provide proof of such cancellation via cancellation confirmation number. Trial memberships MUST be cancelled within the initial 48 hour period to avoid further billing.

What are your opinions? If you advertise a 3 day trial membership, you cancel prior to 3 days, they refuse to give a refund because you didn't cancel before 48 hours?

I mentioned his words could end up causing more damage than those airplanes and that he should not only retract his statements, but should come out and apologize. I didn't threaten (goodness knows that'd get me in a trouble) but I did mention that I'm prepared to launch a boycott against his programs, any business doings and companies he's part of.

Not sure if it'll do any good, but made me feel a bit better ;)))

Russia has been dealing with Muslim extremist for a long time, Afghanistan was the big one...Ironically we always used their anti terrorist/muslim fundamentalist policies against them, even up to a year ago. I was also extremely impressed when the Bush team came into office and placed World Terrorism and Preparedness as their #1 task.

Not sure if many of you heard Dick Cheney speak during his discussion of such a plan, but he was basically discussing pretty much what we're seeing now. They were extremely worried about Suitcase size Nuclear Bombs... etc..

Overall I couldn't imagine any better team of people running this country than the Bush team.. I couldn't imagine a Gore team in office right now... Their #1 effort would be the environment in comparison....(not saying it's not important though ; )

Russia's alignment with the US is extremely critical. Let's not forget when Russia was bombing the shit out of Chechnya the US (during Clinton's office) ran a major Media Blitz against Russia and their inhumane actions. Russia was basically doing what we want to do to Afghanistan...
It's unfortunate that it's a crazy political world and sometimes catastorphes need to occur to form stronger alignments.

I hear there are virtually no men left in Chechnya these days, Russians basically killed any man over the age of 10, and raped the women to create a race change...

Grimm, Pakistan will be used as "fly over" country and nothing else.

I also can't let that post by gigi slide by. There is NO blockade of food, medicine, or any other humanitarian aid to Iraq. The fact that Saddam's people are starving or can't get medicine is on his head not ours. American drug companies can ship all the drugs they want to Iraq. The fact is that Saddam keeps his people down and blames us for it.

They've already initiated something called "Air Marshall Plan" (not sure on that title) basically placing armed secret service agents on every flight. They did this successfully in the 70's.

Taliban Vows Revenge if US Strikes

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Afghanistan's ruling Taliban militia warned
Friday of ``revenge'' if the United States attacks it for harboring
Osama bin Laden, the main suspect in the terrorist attacks on New
York and Washington.

``If a country or group violates our country, we will not forget our
revenge,'' Taliban spokesman Abdul Hai Muttmain said from the
militia's headquarters in Kandahar in southern Afghanistan. He did
not give details.

Speculation has been mounting that Washington may take military
action against the Taliban as evidence grows that bin Laden, an
exiled Saudi millionaire, was behind the worst terrorist attack in
U.S. history.

Bin Laden has been living in Afghanistan under the protection of the
Taliban since 1996. The Taliban are refusing to produce bin Laden
unless Washington provides convincing evidence of guilt.

On Friday, the Taliban's reclusive leader, Mullah Mohammed Omar, said
U.S. investigators were trying to link bin Laden to this week's
attacks ``unjustifiably and without any reason.''

In a statement read aloud by the Afghan ambassador to Pakistan on
Friday, Omar said the attacks themselves point to bin Laden's
innocence ``because Osama has no pilots'' and because there is no
pilot training in Afghanistan.

U.S. officials have said the some of the hijackers were trained as
pilots in the United States.

Anyone singling out bin Laden is trying ``to add to his (own)
reputation,'' Omar said.

Meanwhile, Pakistani military sources said Friday that Omar had been
moved to a new hide-out in Afghanistan. Omar normally is believed to
live in secret locations in Kandahar, where Pakistani sources said
the militants have reinforced security.

Pakistan, which has been Taliban's closest ally, is believed to have
the best intelligence on Afghanistan and the militant militia.

Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf faces a tough decision. He can
promise full cooperation with Washington in its hunt for the
terrorists and risk the wrath of Muslim fundamentalists at home, or
refuse to cooperate and infuriate Washington.

The Taliban face a similar dilemma. If they hand over bin Laden, they
risk angering thousands of foreign fighters who are indispensable in
their war against a northern-based alliance. If they continue to
harbor bin Laden, they risk a full-scale attack by the world's most
powerful army.

The United Nations and many international aid organizations have
withdrawn their foreign workers from Afghanistan, fearing an attack.
Foreigners have been ordered to leave and the Taliban have stopped
issuing visas to foreigners.

Amid the growing fears of a U.S. attack, war-weary Afghans resigned
themselves Friday to the possibility of more bloodshed. Since the
1970s, the country has been wracked by successive disasters: a Soviet
invasion, civil war, the rise of the radical Taliban, a devastating
drought and famine.

``We have suffered so much. Every night so many children go to bed
hungry,'' said Zalmai, a teacher who like many Afghans uses only one
name. ``What do we have to live for? Let the rockets come and set
this whole country on fire once and for all.''

Some Afghans expressed the kind of rage that may have led to the
terror attacks in the first place.

``Any enemy of the Muslims will be punished by God,'' said Imam
Mohammed Muslim Haqqani during Friday prayers at a mosque in the
Afghan capital of Kabul. ``The United States and Israel are enemies
of Islam.''

Such sentiments were also common in neighboring Pakistan, where
Islamic fundamentalists enjoy widespread popularity.

``Allah intensified the fire and destruction of those planes,'' said
prayer leader Maulana Abdul Aziz at a mosque in the Pakistani capital
of Islamabad, explaining why two hijacked planes were able to turn
New York's World Trade Center into rubble Tuesday.

In the Pakistani city of Peshawar on Friday, several hundred people
emerged from a mosque shouting ``jehad!'' or holy war, and shouted
pro-Afghanistan slogans.

cj, heather, boy do I understand what you're saying...I must have seen the opening screen of dreamweaver a thousand times...and it just sits there till i close it.

i've got the tv on constantly...i switch it off to try to work, then i start refreshing abcnews.com, then its back to the tv for more word on something i've read.

i don't know what choked me up worse yesterday...the national anthem played at buckingham palace (with prince andrew holding his hand over his heart) or the president breaking up during the impromptu news conference, or hearing about the firefighters and police who (when dragged off the line because of dehydration or due to their eyes swelling shut) leave their eye-patches and IV needles dangling in the triage, because they tear them off or out to go back to the line...or that poor guy who lost 700 of his 1000 employees sobbing his guts out...

who the hell can work? and yet we have to.

as for the ayatollahs fartwell and robertson, they're nothing more than christian versions of osama bin laden. to HELL with them.

This from my buddy manhattan matt - I've read the 4PM PST vigil suggestion here, but the buy-stocks idea is new to me. thot i'd pass it along:

This Friday Night, September 14 2001 at 7:00 p.m. EST step
out your door, stop your car, or step out of your establishment and light a candle. We will show the world that Americans are strong and united together against terrorism.

The second is a bit more difficult, but again I think it is a good idea as it will show the B@#$%^%S that wanted to probably
destabilize our financial markets that we will not succumb.

When the stock market opens, buy 5 shares in your favorite
company. Loads of folks are predicting a flight of capital from the markets, thus destabilizing our economy and creating a global recession. Again, imagine if we could get 5 million folks to by 5
shares each. What a message. The web is powerful medium to share this sort of stuff with and spread the word. I encourage you to do your part.
Matt

Hooper, I agree about the games and such. I watched the Special Edition of WWF SmackDown last night and it was a nice break. The show was total class from top to bottom. All of the wrestlers came out and the power of seeing these "tough guys" with tears streaming down their faces was very surreal. The matches were there for entertainment value and there were no run-ins or mention of current storylines. Just 2 hours designed to get people's minds off the tragedies. The matches were intercut with the wrestlers giving their thoughts and I feel hlped heal them a bit. Everyone in hat arena came out with flags and signs and the whole show was just a class act from top to bottom. Vince McMahon came down "out of character" and gave a rousing speech about the fact this show wouldn't be easy but it must go on to show these terrorists that they won't disrupt the way they thought. It wasn't done as one of those "good guy" speeches, it was done from the heart.
An amazing show that had me enteertained, but for some reason had me with a tear in my eye and smile on my face...the most moving interview of the night was Steve Austin, here's a guy who plays a bad ass all the time and here he was in etars expressing heart-felt condolences, character be damned...

I realize, it's easier to do scripted shows over a real sport, but I think we as a nation need this return to normalcy, or at least a reasonable facsimile.

Ryan.. chances are that you are behind a router that allows all of your computers to share one ip address. It's a technology called NAT (network address translation) and you'll need t o modify your router setup to send all xfers on a certain port (don't know which one is icq file xfer port) to your computer. Usually you can only get one computer per nat to actually have true exposure to the web.

On another note, I've been seeing all of these people cancelling games etc & I am really beginning to wonder how long everybody thinks it will be until we "get back to business as usual".

Please note that I'm not saying that this mourning period isn't necessary and am certainly not belittling this tragedy in any way... but I am beginning to miss the good old pissing & discussions about business that happened here.:-(

Please excuse this cut and paste from the Topniche board, but I thought I'd share this here too.

Re: celebrations on the West Bank

First off, I have to say that I am no expert, in fact most of what I'm about to say is a direct result of my research over the last 3 days.

Yes, I agree that the images of the people of Palestine dancing and celebrating in the streets is disturbing, and maddening....however.....we must remember how they view this whole thing.

These terrorists didn't just wake up one morning and say 'Hey, let's terrorize America....they are completely innocent, but hey...we need something to do!'

Their actions are a direct result (among other reasons) of actions taken by the US (and other countries) to 'harm' these countries including afghanistan and Iraq by sanctions...no food, no water, no medical supplies....women and children of Islam are dying as a direct result of these sanctions....innocents.

So when the people of these countries see the US 'harmed', of course they are happy....they have been watching their mothers, daughters, brothers, sisters dying for several years due to direct actions taken by the US.

Those images really shouldn't come as a surprise.

I in no way condone the celebrations on the West Bank, only to help everyone UNDERSTAND them.

My concern right now is China (yes, China). The US has been on very shaky ground with China for a while now. Remember that airplane incident in China back in April?

China is the most recent 'member' of the 'nuclear club'. They have a population that is more than double that of all the countries in NATO combined. China has friendly ties with Iraq, Iran, North Korea, and Libya.

Yes, China expressed their condolences to the US. Yes, China has claimed to back the war on terrorism pioneered by President Bush...HOWEVER...they are unlikely to change their policies due to the tragedy in the US.

http://us.news2.yimg.com/f/42/31/7m/dailynews.yahoo.com/h/nm/20010914/wl/attack_china_policy_dc_1.html

We can only hope that once the US strikes back, China will either be behind the US, or neutral.

We must remember that the US still hasn't given specific details on how they plan to 'start' this war. Will it be an all out attack on Afghanistan and the Taliban? Will it be demands for the Taliban to turn over Osama Bin Laden, and further, the annialation of all/any terrorist camps scattered throughout Afghanistan? Pakistan? Saudi Arabia? Iraq? Iran? (among others)

How will China react? They will react in the best interest of China...period.

That's all I can say right now....
