OK we have another HUGE annoucement - some more CA$H.
Opano will now award $500 to the person who has the worst picks ( lowest record, score) for the year. And this person will be invited to the private dinner in Vegas.
So now not only does Oprano award the winners, but also the losers!!
If you don't think you can beat Kimmy the Greek for the #1 spot, all you have to do is beat Ed, Billy, and Serge for the bottom spot!
All underachievers unite!!
CJ, Lisa, Meatman, here is your opportunity to put your lack of American football knowledge to work!

Vick,
The quick recovery Jamal made at UTK and how strong he came back is exactly what I was referring to :) They've alway referred to UTK as wide receiver U, but it's starting to look more like running back U with the quality they keep sending the NFL.

Jamal Lewis already had his right knee ACL torn in his sophomore season at Tennessee.
Usually that injury takes 2 years to fully recover from.
Word in Baltimore is this tear was not as bad and Jamal may return next year at 100%
The Raven's could have offered Barry Sanders a great opportunity to get a ring
Really surprised the Raven's didn't pursue Sanders

After Jamal's season ending ACL injury I bet the Ravens are wishing they could coax Barry out of retirement as well.
On the bright side for the Ravens, Jamal loves the game and works hard at rehab so he should be a real force next season if the other knee holds up.
While Barry didn't take out the record books, he was a pure delight to watch. Actually,in over 30+ years of watching football I've yet to see anyone else with the ability to change direction with both feet off the ground. He will always be the definition of shuck & jive.

______
Ed I think this afternoon we are going to pick up some pads at the sporting good store, and play tackle the man with the ball. Me, you and Tim... then we can see how easy and non-violent football is! ( I know its not a Mayan thing, but I would like to see tommorow)
Then you will be able to multiply the pain by 300% and imagine if you were being hit by a linebacker who is 6'3", 255 lbs and can run 40 yard dash in 4.45 seconds...

CJ the football pick'em game is NOT gambling, you are not losing anything. You can only win!
The Mayans had it right - 2 teams of warriors settled disputes in the arena... And the winners (and any remaining losers) were sacrificed to the gods right after the party in the locker room!
______________________
HAHAHA That is why there are no more Mayans around Ed.
Football is not about violence, it is the ultimate in team work. If every player on the field does not work in unison as a team, the play will not work. This does not occur in any other sport.
IN basketball, baseball, soccor, one person an all-star can dominate the enteir game/season. Not so in football...

ok, yeah, yeah-its a risky sport-blah, blah - some of you are missing my point and my point was this - If I'm going to root for a pack of gridiron warriors, I want to "ROOT FOR A PACK OF GRIDIRON WARRIORS"! There's no real visceral tension in blowing out a knee or tearing a hamstring or dislocating a shoulder - sends no charge to my baser needs - my limbic system doesn't respond...
If I'm going to watch, I want it EXTREME! I want to see limbs and appendages flying in the melee to protect/capture the spiked ball! I want the first 5 rows of seats to be known as "The Blood Rows"!
The Mayans had it right - 2 teams of warriors settled disputes in the arena... And the winners (and any remaining losers) were sacrificed to the gods right after the party in the locker room!

If u don't like football it might be that you don't understand it. It's the most complicated team sport
ever conceived. Look at the sidelines, there are more coaches than players on an NBA team, then there's a whole other bunch of coaches sitting up in the press box strategizing and interpreting photographs of the different formations.
It's not my favorite sport but it is so unique, every game means something cuz there are only 16 of them unlike baseball bball and hockey where most of the season is meaningless.
Meni, you live near Hank's neck of the woods, what kind of coverage did his death get?

cj & ThrobX - nice to know I'm not alone in the "who gives a toss about american football" section of Oprano - Looks like I won't be sitting by myself after all!
I think "football" would be far more interesting if there were some REAL risk involved... Why not make the ball out of solid steel, and put sharp spikey bits on it to boot... And give the linesmen on both sides swords or maces - they already wear armour! It would give meaning to "defense" and "man-on-man coverage" would become "hand-to-hand combat"! I'd start watching it then!!!
